No, it can't.

The devs have already stated, in canon even, that the games will never be set in a period or place where vehicles were prominent, and not in time periods where history is already well catalogued.

After delving pretty deep into all the secret/side-content hidden on Abstergo computers, diaries, etc..... I'm pretty sure they're setting us up for China Creed. There's chronicled evidence of Ezio training a 'chinese girl' -- which, because it's written in canon perspective, could be any sort of asian really (there's been some talk about Japan too), but from a historical perspective there's a *lot* more upheaval in China that would be conducive to a Templar story arc.

They actually said they won't be doing one in China in the game itself, I'm pretty sure. It was basically an in-game version of what the "Abstergo Entertainment" devs in AC4 were deciding to do and not to do.

Yeah, Ace about covered it. I also recall them saying Japan was a very unlikely setting, as would be ancient Egypt.

I really liked the comics set in Revolutionary Russia. If they could flesh that would, even as DLC, I'd love that.

Well yeah. But those are the same (in-game) people who said 'We're not going to do a game about Ezio, Connor, Altair, or what's-her-name-from-the-psp-one.' If anything that makes it more likely.

The thing was Ezio, Connor, and Altair were all from Desmond's memories as you were playing as him and weren't being extracted to be transferred into an entertainment product.

That wouldn't make sense. There are games that explain how the Assassins and Templars came to be, and that would be too early.

I think the best choice would be China, during the Taiping Rebellion. The Templars could be the ones pulling the strings of the Heavenly Kingdom.

Great game, great great wonderful game. The boats really lent themselves to AC3's style, and they got past the "one at a time" thing, by giving you a shit ton of people to fight with.

It's mostly UbiMontreal's fault. If you played through especially AC3's modern sets, the platforming was actually pretty tight, and a lot of things felt as if they could work in the future; but AC4 steered away heavily (all the modern parts were in first-person walk mode, with a permanent iPad in your hand).

In other words I think modern AssCreed could work, if they set their minds to it and left out the goddamn apple.
