There really isn't that many traits that affect mining
The only one is depleted resources which is not the best
ALSO POST IN THE GODDAMN OOC STOP USING THE INTEREST CHECK.

Runabout:Small fast Airship
Frigate:Medium sized ship for taking down Runabouts and guarding the bigger ships.
Transport:Larger Airship with few weapons, but is quite capable of transporting around troops faster then by air
Dreadnought: Large airship bristling with weapons, slow, but is hard to take down

Restricting us to the classes sort of makes more sense for stats reasons, though. In real life, ships can vary even inside the same class, but it'll be a bit off for every ship to be running round with different stats, and a nightmare for the GM's. Having pre-existing classes with pre-existing stats is just easier for everyone.

I am going to have to say that a Dreadnaught isn't necessarily going to be big, heavy, heavily armored, and slow. And I'm talking about airships; unless there is some gas that can be found underground, easily made, or otherwise accessible in some way to allow mass-use, then a Dreadnaught would just be a larger, more heavily armed ship, not necassarily slower or more armored. Or we have perfected the technique of compressing hydrogen.

What I'm getting at is that don't define them quite so much. Say a Dreadnaught is a much larger type of military airship, but don't completely define them. For example, I'm focusing on very lightly armored ships, with less weapons overall, but because they are heavier guns with longer ranges. Less armor; more engines and boilers. They'll be able to move faster and fire longer, but if someone else's traditional Dreadnaught comes into range, then this Dreadnaught is a dead Dreadnaught. Same with frigates; less armor and guns, more speed and range.

Is that acceptable? Or must we all play it like a game, with only a pre-defined ship type that's pretty much all-around?

EDIT: And I see why you may want just a single list of ship types, I do. Much easier to predict the outcome of a battle if everyone has the same pieces. But let people individualize it a bit; set it up like a game. A frigate is this big, can carry this much weight, and can carry this much coal[boilers] and ammunition. A dreadnaught is this big to this big, can carry this much more weight, etc etc

Then every nation adds it to their Nation Application, and to the bottom of their post if in a player-vs-player battle. Let people have so many 'points' to spend on a ship, with more points for the larger ships. A ship may be dedicated entirely to speed, with practically no armor or heavy weapons, and may just have a couple ballista on the top with explosive bolts. Or it could be heavily armored, with only a couple artillery pieces and a mainly a full storage bay of bombs to drop on a city, helpless to stop the armored behemoth. Of course, taking one Frigate and ramming it into a Dreadnaught would result in both going down, regardless of armor: the weight of armor in a Frigate will surely mean getting through a Dreadnaught's armor, getting stuck or just hitting something crucial. The Frigate may drag the Dreadnaught down with it, or just fall right off, leaving the Dreadnaught to die slower. But airships are terribly expensive; you'd have to put someone in quite the spot to have them ram your ships.

That system is to much of a pain in the ass for us. We are keeping it to those strictly defined ships, otherwise its going to become a huge pain in the ass for us to track.
The system in place is already a bit painful, and its a super-simple system.

Nations Name: The "Mountaintop Kingdom", but the official name is The Alackian Kingdom.

Describe the System: The King and Queen rule over the Mountaintop Kingdom as absolute authority; their coronation can only be completed once the people have agreed to have the prince or princess as their desired King or Queen; a foreigner cannot become a figure of authority, so if they married a prince or princess of the Kingdom, they would remain so, while the prince or princess would become King or Queen. Their rank would become "Royal Consort," and would have to rely on their married counterpart for their power. The rich, the wealthy, are all Barons or Baronesses of the different Fiefs, being five of them across the Mountaintop Kingdom.

[Essentially a city of bandits, cutthroats, and other criminals that essentially are left alone who can only enter or leave the city by having a 'permit' that gains them freedom from the law, as long as the only places they prey on are the smugglers and other people who don't use the main roads, or the airspace around them]
Description: Each of the five major cities of the Mountaintops are oriented a certain direction for the benefit of the nation, for the most part. There are festivals every Solstice, and at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the year, as well as the anniversary of the current King or Queen's coronation, which is typically in the middle of the summer. The traditional foods are more hearty and filling; chicken and steak are primary, as well as potatoes [every since they found out about them, they loved them] and carrots. They start the day off with a sort of oatmeal, usually flavored something fruity, then a hearty, filling meal of meats and potatoes and the like, and then a mix of everything for dinner. Miners have oatmeal in the morning, and a mix of everything 3 times a day after breakfast. Each city has a roundabout way with it, where the main road circles all the way around, just two blocks away from the city's walls, and then two main roads branch off at the Eastern-most and Western-most areas of the city, all the way up the mountain or large hill that the city is based around, through the Inner Wall, and then up to the Keep. Every festival starts with a barrel race: Participants jump in a specially-designed barrel, and steer themselves down the curving road all the way to the bottom. Despite no reward or even an actual reason [it just kinda started a couple centuries earlier], there are always at least two hundred participants. The barrels are courtesy of the government, built to withstand a hard impact, so that if one man were to lose control and smash into a building, he might be bruised and battered, but not broken and hurt. Various villages and towns outside the Cities have their own traditions, besides the mining towns.

However, the Black City is a different story. All the cutthroats and criminals in the city were required to have a semi-expensive 'pass', renewed every year, and then they can pillage and burn anyone who doesn't come through any of the official highways of the Mountaintop Kingdom. The city itself was more like a large town built in the shadow of a mountain, with their airdocks and the like higher up where ships can easily reach them, and not have to land. Because of the few forested areas have a special grass that produces a poisonous yellow dust, most animals are lightfooted, fast, and smart. The ones that aren't die. Any armies that come through will be dead in an hour; the trampling of said grass kills them. When unknowing groups of smugglers or bandits come into the mountain valleys and end up dead, lightfooted Skypirates would come along and loot their belongings, having dropped down from rope ladders originating from their ships, hovering a distance above the treetops, should they

1 million reside in each of the 5 Cities, about 250,000 in Black City, and the rest of the people are in the towns and mining towns and the like across the kingdom.

No...you can individualise them slightly i.e give a basic description of armour and weapons...however these, admittedly yes,very basic groups need to be kept roughly the same. As Duck said, just for our sake. With work, sport and my education I simply don't have time to keep track of everybody's different set of airships etc. Also with battles I will give each party a description of the environment etc. Then you give your orders and depending on tactics then it will be done tactically.
