For as long people can remember their have been Gods and Goddesses to answer their prayers. Now all the God & Goddesses have vanished. No one knows where they have gone or if they will be back. A prophesy says that when the Mighty God and Goddesses disappear humans can enter a contest to try to take their place. Those who are successful will be given ambrosia so that they can become immortal and have the powers of their chosen God or Goddess put inside them.

hmm. . . a God of Magic, Music, and Beauty. . . provided I win a contest, but, I was thinking, maybe we all win the Contest, and start a Pantheon?

Interesting premise, but it also be interesting to make it less of a contest but more like a plan/goal for power.
Such as, with enough supports, magical rituals, careful planning etc you can slowly and steadily give yourself god like powers and and abilities up until a point you are literally seen as a God.

I have a few idea on how to make everyone prove their God material. It'll be sort of like a quest.
