Maybe we can utilize this time to make more social interactions between our characters. Build relationships and what not before you return and the story moves forward.

Umm I'd say it's safe to say most don't want roommates, so, you could probably go to your rooms and/or interact with other people, or have your deity manifest in some way to develop your character.
