Ok, dibs money hungry traders, who'll put a price on anything (if not already taken)Also, quick questions: is there an economy system, where you can make money from various things (and trading) and use said cash to speed up things?

Im striking the balance between too many numbers and and pure RP, but I will let my thoughts stew on how a trade system could be accommodated and I will get back to you soon on this.

Duck, balena, mpjama, goldeagle and darkwolf race apps are accepted!

Waiting on tech selection from balena, goldeagle darkwolf. Let me know when you have done so.

For everyone else who is WIP, either post here that you are done or shoot me a PM and I will take a look!

Over the next 12 hours I will fill out most of the remaining uncertainties and possibly reorganize 1st post for gameplay clarity.

I'm pretty interested in this.
I have two questions regarding the gates:
Have these portals a specific form, size, shape?
When you define the 'nexus station', you mean some kind of run-down alien civilization space station somewhere near the core, or just a zone near the core of the Milky way?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

Assuming high point requirement = more advanced technology:

>Quantum computing technology: 5 point requirement

>Particle accelerators: 15 point requirement

>Cold fusion reactors: 5 point requirement

>Orbital platforms: 10 point requirement

>Star Trek Magic Engine (Impulse Drive): 10 point requirement

With ample respect paid to the state of modern technology, please tell me that I'm not the only one that sees the problem here.

I was going to address this a bit closer to the start of the RP and I will elaborate fully with a lot flavor text when that time comes, but I will reveal the general setting now.

All of the gates in question are perfectly circular (though there may exist other types). The interior portion through which travel is possible is 1200 km (~750m) in diameter, so you can fit a helleva lot of stuff through it at one time. The exterior solid structure is another 200 km (~120m) in width. This "station" is not exactly a physical place, but rather an entire solar system used as a massive intersection of interstellar lanes with hundreds of such gates leading to other star systems across the galaxy. This is initial method of travel for the early-game of the RP before warp/FTL is developed.

Nothing to do with star trek

Impulse (n): the effect of an impelling force; motion induced; impetus given.
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction", that is the principle that given the copious energy cold fusion can produce which propels thus equipped spacecraft. Instead of slingshotting between gravity wells as humans are currently doing, "Impulse Drives" go directly from point A to point B accelerating half the way there, and decelerating the rest of the way- a commonly seen sf method. What I am doing right now in notepad is writing out brief tech flavor texts so we do not have these kinds of confusion. Everyone calls different things differently - in my head I call ships with these drives "Lighters", and could not really find a generally accepted name for them, so I used actual physics to name it.

Also, it is "Particle Acceleration", which as a pre-req to "Light Speed Accerlation" may be a tip off that it is not literally the Large Hadron Collider.

As far as quantum computing, current technology in the here and now is one breakthrough away from using sub-atomic particles to store data. Orbital platforms in comparison are incredibly more difficult.

An idea for trade can be negotiations between Nations. Things to trade could be fleet strength, relics, tech and exotic materials/ resources that can give a small bonus to certain areas (like industry or science) on the three day click.

Just a suggestion, if you want a fleshed out version I can PM later

So basic stations are not considered orbital platforms, while orbital platforms are more like capital ship shipyards, large defense stations, etc.?

Basic stations, such as the ISS would not be considered "platforms". It is up to you to define how large yours will be, but it is not a stretch to say that a few hundred being can be housed comfortably, and be a heavily armed fortress or whatever else. Orbital construction introduces the equipment needed to build large structures such as ships directly up in space on orbital platforms ie. shipyards.

Just so I can reserve this role, traits of my race will be:

-Governments are independent and corporate owned, with various guilds making up sectors of said governments.

-they are shrewd negotiators, and have a tendency to make deals that insure they get the larger cut if possible.

-there are three major factions: Organized Crime/Piracy, Nomadic Salvage Crews and Corporate interests

-Their military is a combination of conscripted militias, automated drones and robotics, and special forces for target assassination, sabotage and espionage (expertly trained and using advanced hardware).

- Fleets are large with lots of small ships, with specialised weapons for dreadnought killing and minimal damage to ships, preferring to kill the crew on board and allowing salvage to be more profitable.

-Cooperative and friendly for the most part, overall military presence is small and ineffective for large scale conflict,

Question
Would it be possible through technology and or other things to boost your affinity points and research point output, military production, and theologian output?

That's what I thought.

Will there be defense bonuses? Such as each defense station in the vicinity of a friendly fleet both increases Fleet Strength, and gives them less losses and more losses dealt?

While I have little way in the form of a Nation Sheet yet, I have several techs I'll need:\
\
Xenolinguistics\
Molecular tailoring (higher quality goods and increased value on trade products)\
Predictive Negotiation analysis\
Hyper Liquid Ballistics}

Descriptions will come tonight

Lol. The image makes me want to do an Ork upon meeting them "'Dem pointy ears'll look good on mah pointy stick!"

Joking aside, contact with some of these nations looks like it will be very fun indeed.
