Badland Academy!
A roleplay that has yet to create a proper banner for itself. (it's being rendered by me! hurray! :D)

(Available Player Slots ATM: 6) (currently reserved slots: Ink-berry, Cherry_Sundae, Kanthaka, LokiLeo789, Boboclown89, deadpixel101)
Genre: Humor / Slice-Of-Life / Adventure / Action
Mood: Generally a mix of light-hearted and heavy action, individual drama can be allowed, idiocy can be sort of commonplace
Premise
Strange powers have been discovered during a regular modern era in Earth, and soon, political powers began to fight each other in a dangerous, world-risking power struggle. The aggressive countries believe that the strange powers (which have been commonly mistaken for "magic") would finally solve their political issues and conflicts, while the more peace-seeking countries believed in preventing such powers from being abused for the better of the world. The fight soon destroyed much of Earth.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, after this particular great war, for whatever reason you have, you had been sent to an underground world, where an academy awaits. Or maybe you were just there from the beginning. Within this barren land exists an academy that has control over a fair amount of land. The academy's goal is to train gifted students to enhance their powers and make them fit for making the Regis's cause stronger. (The Regis is an organization that was formed to wipe out the creatures and monsters that suddenly appeared on the planet and return Earth to a better state)

Oooooooooor you could be a part of the group known as the Procrastination Organization, which is a particularly... ill-intented organization. Led by "The Gray Chairman," a man who is notorious for being opportunistic in nearly every situation, the organization aims to reclaim the land and create a powerful utopia, where one man is to rule everyone and everything. Unfortunately, the Gray Chairman sort of lost his ego, and after a terrible incident involving the deaths of the Organization's strongest people, he developed a habit of procrastinating like crazy for every single plan he has; especially good plans.

There is also an unknown group of people that sort of lurks around the place. These people are dangerous, dark, and are to never be spoken of lightly. One of the leaders, a being that enjoys wearing fresh human skin to conceal his identity, is infamous for killing thousands of survivors of the war all by himself. We don't really talk about this guy because he's a bad guy.

And by "bad guy," I mean "1000000x worse than the evil Organization that does practically nothing but procrastinate."
Leaders

Flow of the Plot

Earth had ended! And congratulations; you didn't end with it.

After a third World War, which no one actually got to witness due to the world ending so quickly, many survivors had either gone off to the underground cities that belongs to the newly formed Regis or through evacuation airships that belonged to the Procrastination Organization. The airships apparently saw the people in a joy ride for the lolz, and eventually found out a month after the third World War that... the world just ended.

Twenty years had passed since then.

The "Academy" acts as both a sort of military + educational center. The actual military, which is composed of NPC Soldiers, are still quite effective, but not as much as the students and teachers specifically trained to harness and master their Regnums. Meanwhile, the Procrastination Organization is a fairly lax place. They don't do much, so in return, they aren't that harsh, especially if you take their past reputation in mind. Supplies from both sides are abundant, though once in a while, rare resources may pop up, and the two sides may fight for them occasionally. So far, no one from each side actually killed each other.

The Academy will initially spend some time testing the waters to see whether the students are able to wield their Regnums properly or not. After a test, the Academy may begin to assign certain "missions" to certain students. Most missions, while linear, are usually matched around the student's level of Regnums.

The Procrastination Organization will be very, very inactive, despite being fairly powerful themselves.

The Know-No-Alliance Party is what actually begins the plot. Duatos, the leader of this party, will begin the story by planting an extremely instable bomb that utilizes an unknown energy simply named "Terraflow." After several missions assigned by the academy (ALL of which are still considered to be important to the school), Duatos will eventually direct his attention toward the school itself, and even the Procrastination Organization, after blowing up the entire state of Las Vegas, killing all survivors remaining in there. The Academy is to somehow defeat Duatos permanently, and is to discover the truth behind why Earth truly turned into a barren wasteland.

Some of Badland Academy's history will be available in form of "Database Records," which are always available in the Grand Library.
Regnums and Magnems

Regnum: Regnums are unique powers that characters may possess. Humans most commonly wield these powers, but other races may have Regnums as well. Regnums are either gained from the beginning of one's life or unlocked as time passes. Regnums do not function exactly like "magic," but it certainly does feel like it in some aspects. These Regnums can compliment the weapons that students/characters may use. There is always a Regnum within each and every one of the underground people, and anyone who does not have a Regnum are either given one or receive help to unlock it. The Academy and the Procrastination Organization usually use these, though some of the P.O.'s members do not use Regnums.

Magnem: Magnems are like Regnums, except they function like "glyphs." While these glyphs may sound convenient, they usually come with a drawback if they grant great powers. Magnems are used by the Know-No-Alliance party's members, though the leader himself does not seem to be using Magnems.
Default Races
Humans: Self-explanatory. These people most commonly use Regnums.

Feras: A hybrid mix of a human and animal. These people began to appear in the middle of the Great War, though their origins remain unknown. There are not a whole lot of Feras, as they had been discriminated and killed off for being "abominations," but as of recent days, the entire situation changed. They are now held with respect due to the strange qualities they hold, each trait being useful for the Regis's cause. The Feras population is still small, but slowly growing.

"No-Nothings" (Actual name is "Travesteral"): The creatures that roam the destroyed world.
The Factions
(These are all directly explained by one of the teachers of Badland Academy)

Character Sheets

Combat System

While the combat system follows the regular post-by-post style, dynamic usages of powers and abilities may be used. This can range from abilities that require dice rolls or abilities/powers that need certain requirements to be fulfilled in order to be used. Hidden powers not listed or sent to the GM are strictly forbidden. If there is a certain aspect that a character does not have on the CS, then send me a PM, and we'll talk about it.
Rules

  • Respect is a high priority in Out-Of-Character discussions. Keep your messages and words true and respectful in the OOC.

  • Metagame/God-Modding is strictly forbidden, and WILL be looked out for at all times in the IC. Metagaming includes characters acquiring knowledge that should be unknown to them until certain points in the roleplay, consistently giving (player) characters an upperhand, and etc. You should know what this is by now.

  • While my decisions on certain topics are usually final, do not shove this fact onto others' faces when they do something incorrect. I may be a GM, but there's no need to pick someone up by their collar and forcibly push them into a detention room without me knowing about it. If there is a problem related to the roleplay in any form, I will certainly look into it.

  • Maximum character limit is four. However, I am (honestly) lax on this rule, so if you feel like you want to slightly break the limit, feel free to send me a PM. Having over 10 detailed characters is totally on you to keep up with the roleplay with, however.

  • Keep up with the roleplay.

  • Do not use the OOC as a means of presenting arguments on certain topics. If you have something to say to others, PMs are the way to go. If you feel like you need my supervision on these PMs, however, feel free to add me into the Private Conversations.

Classes
The classes that people can take at the academy. Keep in mind that this list is always subject to change! Multiple teachers may teach the same class one-at-a-time, though most teachers usually go for teaching one class. Names in brackets like {these} are the teachers teaching the class.

  • Math

  • World History (Pre-Apocalypse)

  • World History (Post-Apocalypse) {Yamato Kanon}

  • History of Weapons

  • Weapon Affinity 101

  • Science

  • Engineering & Technology

  • Travesterals 101

  • Wilderness Survival 101

  • Foreign Languages

  • Code Language (This is an academy-specific thing; taking at least one or two classes of this is recommended for students)

  • Alchemy

There's a lot to be completed, but I'm gonna get there. Hopefully.

NarayanK's first batch of CSs
Yamato Kanon VS Minus-0 said ”You call this a game? YOU CALL THIS A GAME?! HOW DARE YOU! How dare, dare, dare, DARE you think of ruining the lives of others so lightly? To think that you would still not wake up from the delusion of taking pleasure from others' pain...! Pathetic! By the grace of the winds and the strength of a million supernovas, with a mind that thinks broader than a land of plains and a heart much greater than that of a mountain's...! I, Yamato Kanon, shall strike the evil. I, Yamato Kanon, will be your opponent!

.
NAME
Yamato Kanon
.
AGE
25
.
GENDER
Male
.
SPECIES
Human
.
REGNUM
.
= Hopebringer: Yamato's Regnum (his scarf) naturally allows Yamato to detect the intensity of emotions within others. If Yamato wraps the scarf around a target who feels great sorrow or anger, the negative emotion will be temporarily lifted off of the target, and the negative emotion will slowly begin to transform into a positive emotion (ie. Optimism). The negative-to-positive effect, while very slow, is permanent. Unlike nearly all Regnums, Hopebringer is made of fabric, and possesses the strange ability to absorb diseases and slowly destroy them.

POWERS

= Grand Entrance: If Yamato is not seen by anybody in particular, there is a very high chance that he can pop out of nowhere to either interrupt a battle or join in a big/small event.

= Ninjutsu: Yamato is equipped with shurikans, an indestructible (but somewhat blunt) katana, and several other tools that allow him to traverse through dangerous terrains and save others from possible demises.

= Gauntlets & Greaves: Yamato's physical attacks naturally deal slightly more physical damage due to the steel armor he wears over his arms and legs. These gauntlets and greaves are capable of dealing minor fire damage instead of moderate physical damage due to mechanics installed inside of them.
.
.
.
ABILITIES
.
= Ninpo Mark: Yamato's unique system. Every time Raisen-Strike successfully connects, a Ninpo Mark will be available for Yamato to use.

= Raisen-Strike: Yamato's signature attack stance in frontal assault attacks. Yamato charges an attack for approximately one-and-a-half seconds. Yamato may then choose to deliver a straight punch covered in flames, an airborne spin kick, a spinning low kick aimed at a target's legs, or an airborne vertical spin kick. Yamato may ignore the pain of one physical attack during this ability, but will still be dealt a moderate portion of the damage.

= Spiral Ninja: Yamato leaps high into the air, delivering a spiraling uppercut that leaves behind a trail of fire. If Yamato smashes the fist against a critical part of an opponent at the start-up movement of the uppercut, a pillar of fire will be carry Yamato up in the air. The regular uppercut deals minor fire damage and knocks away targets by a fair distance, while the critical uppercut deals both moderate physical and fire damage.

= Shell Break: Yamato charges an palm thrust attack for up to three seconds. The palm thrust attack regularly provides minor physical damage and high knockback capabilities, but if three seconds fully pass by and Shell Break is successfully charged, the palm attack will deal low knockback power but high physical damage. This attack will resonate through the equipment and weapons of a target, meaning that it is an unblockable attack. Yamato can ignore the pain of up to three minor attacks or one powerful attack.

= Justice Flight Zone - Ground: Yamato throws a shurikan at the surface of a solid terrain. The shurikan will “mark” terrains by latching onto them and transforming into tiny launch pads. If Yamato jumps on the shurikan, he will be propelled toward any desired direction by a moderately long range. This ability can make Yamato extremely challenging to keep up with against immobile targets. These marks can only be deactivated by Yamato's will or by being forcibly destroyed, though destroying them could take some time.

= Justice Flight Zone – Air: Yamato throws a shurikan up in the air, leaving an airborne launchpad. This functions exactly like the ground version of Justice Flight, the only difference being that others can use this launchpad as well. Also, the airborne version of Justice Flight Zone will automatically be deactivated after one minute. Yamato can only have two of these out simultaneously.

= Phoenix Triple Strike: Yamato takes out and holds three shurikans within the gaps between four of his fingers for each of his hands, resulting in him carrying six shurikans. Yamato will proceed to fight normally with these shurikans firmly placed within his hands. If Yamato does not throws the shurikans, and an opponent's attacks are consecutively blocked five times within two seconds, Yamato may activate Phoenix Triple Strike to counter the relentless attack. Yamato suddenly charges toward the target and jumps over them, letting his feet swing and crash against two sides of the target's head. Holding onto the target tightly within the grasp of his feet, Yamato will pull the target up before sending them flying in the air. Landing on his hands, he will proceed to perform a flashy flying kick at the target to finish the attack. Phoenix Triple Strike can be a potential threat to those who do not have many defensive options, but is usually not that useful in slower-paced battles.

= Guardian of the Autumn / Spring Season (Overdrive): To activate Guardian of the Autumn Season, Yamato must gain five Ninpo Marks within a single battle. To activate Guardian of the Spring Season, Yamato must have his scarf with him. When Yamato activates Guardian of the Autumn Season, Yamato's equipment will begin to glow vibrantly, and the speed of his movements gain a huge boost for two minutes. When Yamato activates Guardian of the Spring Season, Yamato removes all deathly and lethal illnesses from a target by wrapping them with the scarf. Guardian of the Spring Season can only be used once per day.
.
.
.
WEAKNESSES

  • Targets that are able to dodge his attacks and abilities without many consequences

  • No special features on his equipment that directly amplify his physical condition except for his scarf

  • He cannot infinitely utilize shurikans in a single battle

  • Mostly close-ranged

.
PERSONALITY
Outgoing, boisterous, and filled with harmless intentions, Kanon is often called a stereotypical hero despite the fact that his training and skills hail from an underground institution that prioritized on assassinating humans before the apocalypse was brought onto the world. He is considerably nice towards those who cannot stand up to themselves, and seeks to solve the problems of others with keen insight upon their actions. While he is known as a reckless man who just might go too far in order to promote the Regis's cause to the point where he could jeopardize the organization's plans, Kanon is far from the stupid man that everyone views him as.
