I meant, they're likely described as "schools" of magic in theory. It could be something chalked up to distance in time between Oblivion and Skyrim, with the collapse of the Mage's Guild kind of destroying any Imperial set standards as to what went where, a simple change in the ideology surrounding the schools, or the College of Winterhold's depiction of the schools.

I say probably stick to Skyrim's format since that's the ES game most are familiar with.
But but... What about Mysticism? And Thaumaturgy! Anyway who hasnt played all the ES games?!
Also screw your swords and spells! Not gonna do much good when your body's skewered with arrows! XD
"The only thing better than a powerful mage fighting at your side is... well, nothing, really." - Marcurio (the wanker mage from Riften)
Well to be fair a practitioner of Mysticism is still possible, just because the mechanics were removed from the game (but not entirely because they were combined with conjuration (binding and such)), doesn't mean that its been struck clean from the universe itself.
Aye, but we should settle on one game to simplfy matters

Define "all" Vortex. I mean, I've never played Daggerfall or Arena because getting them to run would be hellish. And most people haven't even played Morrowind which is arguably a crime against the Elder Scrolls series.

Hmmm I can see the point about settling the matter about which game's skill system to base off of, but that does raise the problem for people who hasn't played all the games, such as myself. I have only played Oblivion and Skyrim and dabbled a little bit into Morrowind to know their skill systems well enough to be able to base a character's skills off of.

I've not played all the games, but i've read most of the lore, which for rp purposes is more important in my mind.

I know them, I've spent hours reading Elder Scroll lore XD, I just never played them as I am not a PC gamer and don't have a PC that could run a game decently. And I just don't feel like putting somebody who hasn't played the games at a disadvantage by putting into place a system not everyone knows

I think that just mentioning ones talents in your bio or in the app in general is enough. I would thinking lockpicking would go without saying for a thief type character and such. A section for skills in the sense of "I have good hearing and am good at sneaking around" rather than the actual game skills may make more sense in my opinion. At the same time, adding that into the application means a lot of people will have to edit, and I have a fairly good feeling that everyone put in all their skills and abilities in their bio or personality already, so it may be redundant.(Or its just logical for them to have to be good at bargaining if you're playing a merchant character)

Well why do we need any sort of system at all? Its a roleplay, and not even an RPG. These people don't live their lives going through a menu to change their gear or choose which perks they'll possess. Its all based on personal experience. I mean if we're going to use a system like that, we might as well go all the way and add in dice rolls for combat. Rose gets it, ha~

I like that idea so that is what we will, replace your class section with the skills you are good at, with a description of them so we will know what they are. Sound good all?

Alrighty, should we have 2 major skills and 3 minor skills? Or perhaps not?

That sort of system only really works for characters who specialize in one sort of thing. It's also a bit unrealistic- even specialists in the real world tend to be good at a few other things than their particular specialization. Also, its in general a lot easier to learn how to use a sword than learn how to use magick. I'd say keep it freeform and open, and if something seems unrealistic for whats in the bio, or so powerful that you're the best warrior in Tamriel, that it gets brought down in my opinion.
