I was hoping, since it is a world, that the climate will be everything from tropical heat waves to arctic depending on location.

I don't think on the map there is anything that's supercold though there does seem some desert area.

A continent would work, I was thinking that it could be something like Asia (europe included) size when it comes to scale.

That's up to the GM, but I reckon the scale could rely upon how many people are in and go from that point, filling up spots but also leaving some for future additions.
