Karou walked alongside the lady and the scary man. Mary was clenched firmly to her chest as the small girl nervously glanced up at the man. She then looked over at the other lady. "M-Mary w-wants to know w-where we a-are going." She said in a whisper, looking down at Mary before looking back up at the lady.

"We are going to my home. It's a very big house where we will be safe." Lily replies with as smile. She tugged on Ryland's arm to get him to slow down. He might be use to moving in the dark, but she didn't want to lose anyone along the way.

"S-Safe?" Karou echoed, unused to hearing that word. She had never known safety before and so she really didn't know what to think; being told that she would finally be safe. She hesitantly reached up and timidly grasped the lady's hand in her own small hand, not liking the dark.

"We are stronger then the monsters." Ryland argued. "Especially together. We can do things others can not do. Lily sees the futures. She would know if a monster was near us. I hear the thoughts of others. I woulda now if a monster stocked us. The monsters can not get you as long as you are with us."

Karou gazed doubtfully at him for a moment before she glanced down at Mary and tilted her head to the side, as if listening to something. After a few moments she looked back up at the man, eyes unreadable. "Mary said you won't always be able to protect us from the monsters." She hugged the doll closer in comfort as she looked at the ground. "Everyone always leaves us eventually." She said quietly.

"We will not leave by choose. Mary is right that we might not always be there. Which is why we want to teach be strong in your own abilities. Lily hopes to build a large family with all of us so that we can be there for each other." Ryland replies as he opens a very large gate.

Ryland indicated for the others to enter to estate before him. He carefully lead Lily over the slight bump where they had installed spikes.

Ryland laughted "I said something similar when Lily's father brought me here. We have 2 acres of land and an 80 room house. We're guarded by the last security system available not to mention my men. Anyone wanting to attack us on our home turf will not have an easy time."

A small squeal of delight let Karou as she threw her small arms around Ryland's waist in a hug before she spun away, giggling. "Did you hear that Mary? We get our own room!" The girl laughed, a large smile on her face.

"That is a hard question, Vanessa. My father experimented a range of ages. He didn't know who would be able to handle the changes. Few volunteered like Ryland, but most of the people he took were unwanted or wouldn't be missed if they didn't survive the experiment." Lily shook her head sadly.

"All I can say is that the government wanted super soliders and they thought that people with psychic abilities would have a better chance of surviving then ordinary people. My father is a genius, but I don't think he has any ethics.
