I am interested in this idea. I love everything to do with Steampunk (do you see my profile pic?), and magic creatures are definitely a fun twist =). Someone should definitely start this up if the OP doesn't return. I've GM'ed a couple of RP's before, one was relatively okay (but then the old site died >_<) and the other just recently flopped... So I don't think I'm qualified take up such a responsibility, unless no one else can. I really don't want to see this idea die though.

I don't want to see it die, either. I may be able to participate, even.

It is quite motivational for this story. Seem to have lost my one history book that went into great detail on those wars. Well...like a chapter or two. But that's a lot of detail compared to like...the Korean and Vietnam wars (both got a paragraph each). So...
