Still in the development phase.
An alien world enters our solar system and takes up an orbit close to that of Earth. It will have a breathable atmosphere, tolerable gravity (1.05), and an active biosphere. Unknown to humans it is home to several sapient species and subspecies. (There will be 4 sapient races that the group will deal with, plus two subspecies. The rest are either non-mobile, rare or very avoidable.) At least one race will be utterly hostile with no chance for diplomacy. The others will vary in hostility. Some may even be interested in first contact.)
Note: Horror and Sci Fi are both clicked. I rarely ever do horror. Hopefully the team will avoid the worst of the horror. Events may help them avoid it. But I can assure you, if the horror part of this scenario reaches Earth, humanity will suffer an apocalypse of biblical proportions.

When it was first detected in 2051 (about 10 billion miles out - further than Pluto), it was natural for conspiracy theorists to go crazy and name the approaching Earth sized object as Nibiru and renew predictions of our demise just as they had so many times in the past. It helped little that Nibiru would arrive around the same time Halley’s Comet returned in 2061. It was equally natural for science to point at previous apocalyptic predictions and shake their heads. Of course, they did due diligence.
True, Nibiru was a real object. If it did strike the Earth it would obliterate both planets, as well as the Moon. Plus it had its own moon. It was indeed on a course that would intersect Earth's orbit. However, it was approaching from above the plane of the solar system. As the years passed it became apparent that Nibiru was going to miss the Earth by millions of miles. The interest didn’t stop there though. Eventually it was discovered that Nibiru had an atmosphere very similar to that of Earth, with slightly higher O2 content, slightly higher gravity and slightly higher pressure. In other words, breathable without life support.
The problem was that it had been traveling through space. Its atmosphere and all life on the planet would have been frozen - or should have been. Its temperature was inexplicably too high. It also had a magnetic field, which indicated a molten core. In fact, it was high enough that complex life might have survived in a form of hibernation. And as it approached it was possible that the lifeforms might awaken from hibernation, with all the threats that implied.
To be continued...
The Mothership crew will be NPC's, but I may allow you guys to develop them. They should be characters similar to the ones in movies. The crew will be NASA types. There WILL be a couple military crew. YOU folks will be running Mains who will be part of the Lander crew(s) ... in other words, part of the adventure.
When they first arrive the temperatures on the planet will be warming up from deep space. Water will mostly be frozen. But there will be volcanism.
Spoiler Alert:
