At face value, Desmond comes off as friendly, and approachable, though a little awkward too. While not meek, he is quite easily embarrassed in casual situations; Often mumbling, or stuttering about something. As far as anyone can tell, he's quite passionate about Pokemon: He'll happily provide for his own team, while showing care for wild Pokemon as well. Even his opponent's Pokemon aren't safe from his care; His knowledge of medical care often leading to him not leaving many Pokemon critically injured after a battle, despite the potential differing sides they're on.

Though after "The Incident", he's become much different.

The former love he showed for his Pokemon is mostly gone: He has become quiet, more collective; He uses his mind to think of his own well being, rather than to think of others. He is driven by the orders given to him by his leader, and a powerful curiosity that drives him ever forward: Emotions such as love and compassion have been locked away, leaving a rather cold-hearted individual in the wake of a once very sweet and generous soul.

Though, through small moments, parts of his former self can be seen slipping through. Slight concern for his partners, consideration of what he does; But it's all quickly overwritten by the locks that seal it back and replace it with the cruel and progressive thoughts.

History
Desmond was born to Professor Michael of the Orre Pokemon HQ Lab, and a loving nurse he fell in love with during his adulthood. Being the son of a hero didn't make him special, really; But the fact that his father was a researcher gave him a place in life from an early age. Desmond took to books, loving to study and learn about Pokemon; and as he grew older he gained a very big fondness for his father's study of the Emotions of Pokemon.

Such studies were necessary to stop another Shadow Pokemon epidemic, and therefor his father was a very busy man trying to make progress. However, that never stopped him from helping new trainers find a Pokemon: Including Desmond himself, once he was of age to travel on his own. The boy was given a Mareep as his first Pokemon; And along with it, he traveled portions of Orre for his studies, discovering and taking advantage of the specific spots where Wild Pokemon could be found to increase his ranks and make more friends.

Over the few years he spent as a trainer/researcher, Desmond had made advancements in his studies of Pokemon Emotion, feeling like he may be able to assist his father rather than follow in his footsteps study-wise. He was proud of his work...

And unfortunately never got the chance to show his father.

It had all happened so fast. One moment he was writing, then, a pain in the back of his head; Things went black. When he awoke, he could hardly see: Things were blurry... He recalled a man in blue, he said things. Things Desmond was too out-of to understand due to the potential concussion he had suffered; All he knew was that he had been put in a sort of cell... Or chamber. And that another man had just yanked down a lever.

That pull of a lever was the exact moment Desmond disappeared from the world. And a new slave to Cipher was born.
