Audura Quartz
Physical Description
Audura is a tall, thin, lanky woman of 19 years. She has scruffy black hair and sharp green eyes. Her face seems like it’s almost permanently fixed in a frown, with the bags under her eyes to complete the picture. She wears an old, battered red scarf, that she has grown irrationally attached to, a brown leather jacket, and torn, faded jeans.
Psyche
Always alert. Rarely sleeping, very jumpy. A paranoia, as well as a bad anxiety that hatched at birth, seems to only grow worse each encounter she and her sister come to a horrible new reality of the world they live in. Loyal, almost to a fault. Not heartless, but not willing to risk the safety of her younger sister to help others. She has a soft spot for animals. Audura seems to be uncomfortable when surrounded by others, because of being so nervous all of the time, she jumps to conclusions quickly
Motivation
At her sister’s suggestion. Although not particularly wanting to, because of ‘pesky emotional bonds’. Her sister wanted to finally stop running and hiding, and try to be a part of a group once more. One of the only reasons Audura agreed to this, is so she could learn more about the fog, more safely.
Relations
Parents - A dim memory of them, but their faces and names were lost to time. Occasionally she remembers one or two disconnected memories, but nothing solid. She yearns to learn more about them, and what happened to them.
Aella Quartz (sister) - Very close. The only thing that stopped her from going insane a long time ago.
Personal History
The earliest memory Audura has is of her and her sister, very young then, hiding in a broken down house. She dimly remembers that back then, her elusive parents had supposedly gone out on a supply trip. She could remember how long they waited, Audura constantly edging on leaving, due to their dwindling supplies, and Aella refusing to go, clinging on to the desperate hope that their parents would return.
...They never did.
Eventually, Audura forced her sister to wake up and smell the flowers. Pointing out that their parents probably ditched them a long time ago, for the perks of having two fewer mouths to feed. Not helping was the fact that they were needy children. Constantly hungry, thirsty, the whole deal.
One good thing that their parents had done for them before they had disappeared had been teaching them to fly a plane. They had left the small plane behind, where her parents had often taught them to fly. They were both scrawny and thin, so they were able to fit in the plane easily. Audura, craving something to help her express her emotions, took up drawing, she was always drawing, drawing on the plane, on her jacket, wherever she could, because paper was a rarity to come by.
For a long time, they stayed loners, flying where they wished, scavenging through ruins, and trading with people for fuel for their plane. Their plane was small and only seated two. They never stayed any one place long, for fear of getting too attached, and then being forced to distance themselves when things got rough

Grace River Hudson nee' Kowalski
“An animal knows what it is and accepts it. A man may know what he is but he questions. He dreams, he strives, changes and grows.”
Physical Description
Grace is a very beautiful woman of 40 years (though she usually answers 37 when asked) with blonde hair and blue eyes. She's a very voluptuous woman and can turn heads of most men without trying, she has a stern look on her face by default and rarely smiles. Life, loss and stress has wilted her rose so to speak with the younger crowd (at least that's what she claims) but waking up to her face usually brings people a smile whether it's due to her beauty or the way she makes people feel safe.
Psyche
Grace is a mother of four kids still alive (two others died, one was a miscarriage the other from Kawasaki's disease) and it shows. She's a mother to everybody, watches out for them craves to help them and is quite the domestic goddess. She is empathetic, kind and tries to do the best and inspire the best from people. When people fail her, she internalizes it and she takes the blame in her mind. Grace seems incapable of hating anybody but herself and she can easily crack when bad things keep happening especially if she's in charge.
Motivation
Grace needs to find her children who now live in The Other Seattle. She's afraid of what might happen to them without her, espcially now that her husband is dead and she just wants to know if they're ok.
Relations
Justin Hudson (husband, deceased): Justin is Grace's late husband and one true love. She dearly misses him but knows she must move on.
Cosima Hudson (oldest daughter): Cosima is Grace's apple to her eye and is 20. Cosima was the closest to Grace and her husband. Last time Grace heard from her she's getting married and pregnant. The far more feminine of her twins and somewhat of a princess in attitude.
Peg Hudson (second oldest daughter): Peg is Cosima's younger twin by literally a minute. Peg is the more tomboyish of the twins and likes to fight, hunt and camp. She has said she was drafted into the elite bodyguards but Peg is known for spinning tales like her dad so Grace is skeptical about that.
Prudence Hudson (middle child): A punk rocker girl that was never close to her parents. Typical rebel of the children. Grace wishes to meet Prudence and make up with her and hopes she's still alive. An attitude like hers can make her dead.
Randy Hudson (youngest only son): Randy was one of the first of his birthyear drafted and his fate is unknown. He's 15 years old and was coddled, so Grace is VERY nervous about him.
Personal History
Born in 2010 in Meridian, Mississippi Grace was one of those girls who wanted kids almost right away. This led to a teen pregnancy at age 17 with her then boyfriend and future husband Justin Hudson. The child was a miscarriage, something that haunted Grace for years. She was pregnant again 2 years later and the child died at the age of two due to Kawasaki's disease. A year she was pregnant with her twin daughters, Cosima and Peg. Her other two children Prudence and Randy came 2 and 5 years afterwards respectively.
Life for her family were good. She knew how to cook, clean and was a natural Martha Stewart. Over the years she learned how to be more minimalist in her work. She even decided to work on having EMT training (or at least worked on it if this future wouldn't be capable of training her). She was happy with her life. That was until Justin died from a brain tumor and then things went from bad to worse.
Her children one by one were drafted to go to New Seattle. Grace lost everything she was good at and she took up some outdoors activities as hobbies and started some groups with her friends such as knitting circles. She also learned some first aid and realized she can win some people over. Realizing she had some skills outside of hearth and home, Grace decided to join a group to travel to New Seattle.

Samuel Boone
Time Heals All Wounds
Age: 50
Physical Description
A man of the old world, his greying beard betrays any feeble attempt to hide his age. A larger-than-average nose above the grey-and-brown whiskers and two eyes of hazel with a hint of orange when the light hits just right. His hair self-cut short, ragged but that seems to fit his style. Samuel is not a heavy man and his physique is not quite what it used to be, though anyone could tell you that his hard daily work keeps him more than able. His height is a good 5'10'', and this is hidden by his usual slouching figure.
Psyche
Samuel is calm in a social setting, though he has a tendency to get caught up in telling his stories and jokes. He is empathetic to various points of views and is easily wary upon hearing radical notions. Friendship with Samuel is easy as gifts and advice are both expected and welcome by many. Strenuous situations don't bother Samuel like they used to, experienced enough now to hang back and process his surroundings, finally carrying out whatever protocols he learned over the years with accuracy. A traumatic loss of a loved one years ago forced upon him a mild psychosis; disembodied voices and repetition of an unseeming word uttered without context are his benign demons. Few know what keeps him as level as he is.
Motivation
Samuel's old partner always wanted to live in Washington state. Now's his chance to fulfill one part of a dream.

Is known by most that have lived in New Philadelphia. No outstanding relations yet.
Personal History
Born in 2,000, Samuel was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and a part of Generation Z, having a head for tech that his parents were sorely lacking in. While having few siblings, he rarely lived with any as they all belonged to a different mother or father and granting him the overall feeling of being an only child. He's had his rebellious years and was soon thrown into a private school to take care of his "problem with authority." Six years of the many strict codes of conduct have molded him into a functional young man for society, as well as where he met his high school sweetheart: Drew Caliman.
Immediately after finishing high school, Samuel was pulled in by the booming outdoor industry of his city and joined the guild for rock climbers. From there he learned many aspects to the profession for efficiency and safety with all types of outdoors equipment, ropes, and environments. After the second year he picked up basic first aid and first responder training, though he did not pursue any further careers involving search and rescue. Instead he evolved into a guide, exploring the surroundings and keeping all manners of locals and tourists safe along the valleys.
Then the fogs rolled in. The city had little warning as communications were mysteriously dropping and the mist came in with the Tennessee River. Reports of missing people came in waves. Samuel plucked Drew from their home and drove his truck full of camping and survival supplies to the guild's base of operations. Things were safe there for a time, but no one was prepared for a full invasion of beings from the fog. The leaders were quick to leave with their families, and to this day Samuel doesn't know if any of them made it; though the rest of the guild's staff stuck together and warded off what they could. During the final push upon their makeshift stronghold, a transmission came through: Safety on the East Coast, toward Philadelphia. So everyone with their packed vehicles rushed from their base and made a convoy going North East.
Every survivor prepared for the trip to the best of their abilities, though everyone was ill-prepared for towns overrun and monsters ready to shred their vehicles. In Virginia, five of the seven vehicles were lost, two of which were to raiders. Perhaps it would be more suited to call them looters or the insane. Samuel and Drew were in one of the aforementioned vehicles, ambushers using a downed telephone pole to stop their advance. They were given the chance to leave the truck to go on foot, so Samuel picked out two bags and they left without incident. The whole state was foreign to him, but he tracked to the best of his abilities. They had made it to Baltimore, but still had many miles to their destination.
Samuel doesn't talk about the rest of the trip on foot much. He lost Drew during that trek, as well as gaining a few new scars. All he will tell is his seeing New Philadelphia with lights visible from the distance, sometime during midnight. He arrived in the early morning, exhausted and more than that, broken. He will often say he wished for a new spark for determination, but his will to live had fallen greatly for the first few years. Time heals all wounds. With a weak source of will, he went from scrounging for scraps in the dirty alleys to signing up as a patrol for the New Philadelphia National Guard. His skills and knowledge proved useful as he became a trainer for scavenging food, basic farming, and ropework. He opted in for training with heavier weapons and was an inspiration for backline defense.
Years in New Philadelphia were rough, but Samuel grew to enjoy who he was once more. He is a hard man when he works, but he leaves the agile folk to do the regular duties and errands. Now Samuel focuses on training and imparting his skillsets to whoever wishes for better chances of survival in this rebirth of society.

Tara Elody Bales

Age 27
Physical Description
Tara has a slight, but strong figure that has become standard with the food rations and high physical expectations of New Philly. She stands at 5’6”, long straight dirty blonde hair, usually tucked away or pulled back into a ponytail. Hazel eyes and a smattering of freckles that come and go with the sun and season.
Tara’s clothing choices are heavily dictated by what is accessible, she tends to favor darker clothing as they can go longer with out washing. She have a black scarf that she uses cover her hair, use as a mask and more than once, used it as a blanket.
Psyche
A practical realist.
Tara’s whole life has been dictated by the phrase ‘hurry up and wait’, mixed with ‘this is only temporary’. Tara has spent most of her life among people who saw that fog as a ‘temporary travesty’ and they just needed to ‘sit tight’ till it passed, making it hard to form connections to places and people because she was always being shuffled around to the next ‘temporary’ place. It doesn’t make her cold or unfriendly, she quiet enjoys a chat and a friend, but she sees them as something for the moment and nothing to grieve over when lost.
Due to her transitional upbringing, she also doesn’t put much value in possessions. Keep what is needed for survival and ditch the rest. Sentiment won’t feed you and it just takes up space on your back and in your heart. When it comes to choices, she follows logic and has very little patience for people who aren't.
Motivation
Contrary to her personality, her motivation is very...illogical.
A dog. Honestly. A memory of a dog that lives in Colorado. A state that was once her infanthood home. Although she was too young to remember it, returning to it has always been her goal. In theory, a family she can’t recall might still be there.
And maybe the dog she does.
Regardless of her family still being there when she arrives, a part of her, no doubt fostered by her grandma, always thought that everything would be alright once she arrived there. It has an almost Utopia appeal to her.
On paper, it is to gather more intel on the mist and the monsters within.
Relations
Grandma Lynn: The elderly woman she was visiting as a toddler while her parents worked. The fog came and made the return trip impossible and caused her Grandmother to become her pseudo parent. She was old when the fog came and died from a flux years after.
Whoever Runs the Split Eye: Used to tell him what was happening and what she heard at the hospital.He gave her candy. Grandma made it stop when she found out.

Personal History
Tara was hardly into her second year of life when the fog hit. In fact the only memory she truly has of before that time was of a large white dog that smelt like wet tile and green plants. Tara was from Colorado, her family was mostly the ‘urban farm type’ that ‘worked till dead in the summer’ and ‘lazed about all winter’. Which was how the two year old ended up two hours outside Philadelphia when the fog hit. Her paternal grandmother offered to keep the little one from underfoot during the busy season. Although she has ‘memmories’ of her siblings and parents, they all suspiciously line up with the stories that her grandmother knew about them. Later in life, Tara figured that she was remembering the stories her grandmother told ABOUT her family, rather than any she actually had.
After the fog, there was no way to return and the grandmother/daughter team spent the next 8 years moving from the house to the town to the road and finally ended up in Philly. The pair that they were always got sympathy and help from strangers. Easily taken in, but also seen as a liability and were often 'smothered' with safety. The ones told to stay in the house, the ones left waiting in the dark. What fighting skills she has, she was taught during these early years was taught by good hearted men, more worried about the monsters within humanity than outside of it. That being said, a bullet doesn't discriminate between humans and monsters.
By the time they reached Philly, both had give up hope of things returning to 'normal'. Grandma Lynn tried to acclimate, she got a job in a hospital, coming out of retirement to join the nursing staff. In the early years, the schooling was inconsistent and left children with hours of unaccounted for time with which they could get into mischief. Mostly she spent her in the hospital, dogging her grandmother. Getting tossed out when she became too much of a nuance for the overwhelmed staff. Tara’s other form Of amusement came from Tom and the Split Eye. She’d tell him what the gossip at the hospital was while they played chess or cards. If she gave him good gossip, he’d give her chocolate. He especially liked when she talked about 'people' who came from the mist.
That ended when Tara let it slip that she often saw a man who gave her candy, played fun games with and wasn’t supposed to tell her Grandmother about.
Her time became a little more structured after that. When not in school, her grandmother had her hopping about the hospital, now older she was given small tasks. In theory it was to help her get a head start in the health field. In reality, it showed her to have horrible bed side manner (Your son died, it is a good thing you had two) and that she was an empathetic puker.
It wasn’t a total loss, as the girl found her true calling away from the living and into the lab. Or what passed for a lab these days. It’s primary focus now being set on examining injuries and people that came from the mist.
Equipment
Tara carries a small research kit ( journal, rudimentary microscope, a few items to take tests with). She also carries a few knives that offer more protect against people than monsters. Everything else she has is from the military.
Anything else?
Technically she could also be classified as a medic. Her time in the hospital has given her the ‘facts’ of healing, but she tends to have a weak stomach when puss and guts are involved.
