Prompto yelped, a chunk of rock whizzing past his head and shattering into a wall of sleet behind him. When he looked to see where the projectile came from, he saw Deadeye's tail connect with the rock underneath Sarah's feet. The sight turned his blood cold.

"SARAH!" Prompto hoisted himself over the collection of rock he'd been using as a shield.
Even as he ran, he knew he wouldn't make it in time. He was too far to save her.

Several feet away, Noctis witnessed the hit and Sarah's fall. He was even further than Prompto, but he had something the marksman didn't. Magic. The magic granted him the ability to warp ahead, allowing the prince to cross a considerable distance within seconds.

Dashing forward, Noctis seemed to flicker out of view, then reappear, directly underneath the girl. His arms were ready to catch her, and not a moment too soon. With a light thud, he caught the girl before she met the ground, earning sighs of relief from all present.

"PROMPTO! Snap out of it!" Gladiolus' voice broke through the clearing. Beads of sweat had gathered on the man's forehead, his agitation increasing when he saw the blond standing right in the center of their current battlefield. He couldn't remember a time Prompto had been so distracted -- but then again, they never had a fifth member to worry about.

With a grunt, Gladiolus swung his greatsword in a high, upright motion. The height of the sword was enough to reach Deadeye's underbelly. Blood pouring from the gash, Deadeye roared again, thrashing and stomping until his tail smacked into Gladiolus and sent him sprawling back into a cluster of rock.

Seeing this, Ignis leapt backwards to avoid meeting the same fate. Deadeye dipped his head down, saliva and blood dripping from his lips. He looked ready to snap Gladiolus in half.

"Prompto! His left eye!" Ignis shouted, urgency in his voice. He whipped one of his daggers into Deadeye's flank, but Deadeye was too focused on the still-immobile Gladiolus to react.

Hands shaking, Prompto aimed for the left eye, and shot.

“Oh god oh god oh god oh god.” Sarah muttered to herself as she felt her body plummet closer and closer to the ground. The shout of her name from a panicked voice echoed to her. THUD! She hit something and her eyes fluttered open to find herself being carried bridal style by the Prince who had used his powered to catch her. She stared up at him in amazement, wide eyed and shocked; the royal family’s magic sure was amazing.

As Noctis set her on the ground, she heard the shout of Gladiolus which caused her head to jerk towards Prompto, her mouth opened to call out to let him know she was okay, that was until she heard the call from Ignis.

Her gaze flipped quickly from Prompto as he helped up his gun and aimed, she followed suit, supporting the gun between her shoulder and her chest. Taking in a deep breathe she and Prompto pulled their triggers at the same time.

“RRRAAAAWWWRRRR!!!!”

THUD

The amazingly large figure of Deadeye loosened his jaw and fell to his side; both bullets landed in synchronization inside of Deadeye’s left eye and seemed to be the final bow to knock him down. After the body hit the ground with a land-shaking thud, silence overtook the area as the five of them stared at the creature.

Noctis made a point to venture forward while Sarah stayed back gripping her gun ready to fire again until she heard the announcement from the Prince that the creature was dead. It took her a moment to lower her gun before she fell to her knees, the adrenaline gone and she placed her gun down on the ground. Her head hung and her eyes watered with tears. “It’s over… it’s finally over…” She said as she sobbed happily into her hands. “Thank you, thank you all so much… you’ve, you’ve all saved so many innocent lives. I can’t thank you enough.”

Boom! Both guns went off at the same time. Prompto could hardly believe his eyes when Deadeye fell to the ground with another heavy thud. The force of the monster's body sent a whoosh through the clearing, the fog vanishing into nothingness.

"We did it..." Prompto mumbled, disbelief evident on his features. He waited for Deadeye to spring up again, but the beast didn't move. After Noctis confirmed that it was dead, Prompto breathed a sigh of relief. "Everybody okay?!"

Ignis offered Gladiolus a hand up. The burly man grumbled, his greatsword disappearing from his grasp. "Just peachy," he responded, frowning once he was on his feet. During the attack, he landed wrong, earning him a sprained ankle as a souvenir.

"We have a long walk back." Ignis stated pointedly. Nothing went by him, not even the smallest injury.

"Been through worse." Gladiolus didn't seem bothered. Taking care not to put weight on his left foot, he moved to rejoin the group, brows raising when he saw Sarah on the ground crying. "She alright?"

Prompto knelt beside her, concern etched onto his features as she thanked them. At first, he worried she had been hurt. "No need to thank us. You helped too, you know!" he offered her a hand up, a kind, gentle smile on his face. "You did awesome!"

Noctis nodded, his weapon disappearing last. "Not bad for a beginner," he admitted, arms folded. "You did good. All of you."

On her knees crying in front of a group of heroes isn’t exactly how Sarah wanted to present herself but could you honestly blame her? Her favorite creatures in the world were getting hunted and eating and it was finally… finally over! Wiping some tears from her eyes she sniffled softly as her gaze turned upwards to see she was drawing way too much attention to her. A blush crawled across her pale cheeks as she quickly removed the water streaks from her face feeling… rather foolish.

Sarah took Prompto’s awaiting hand and with his help found her way to her feet. A smile moved across her face as she received praise from both Prompto and Noctis. “Thank you.” Her attention moved back to Ignis, his statement of having a long walk back made her smile. “Not a walk.” She corrected. “The threat is gone.” With that the group left the area ready to report the death back to the hunters.

Once they were outside of the lair, the blonde reached into her pocket and pulled out a gold colored whistle. Putting it to her lips she blew allowing a loud whistle to echo through the forest. She put the whistle back into her pocket and watched through the trees.

Silence….

“Come on… come on…” She whispered to herself as she crossed her fingers.

“Squawk!”

A loud squawk echoed through the forest and the sound of feet could be heard thumping their way over the thicket. Through the brush of the trees burst five energetic looking adult Chocobos. The creatures seemed to prance around the humans flapping their wings with joy of being free. “Hey hey hey, settle down.” Sarah called out with a laugh as she grabbed the lead of one of the chocobos. “Calm down you nutcases.”

The chocobo chirped with excitement as it rested its beak against her head. “Yeah I’m glad you’re out to.” She said softly as she gave the bird a pat and turned to the group. “Everyone know how to ride? Or do we need a quick run down? If not get on the saddles and I’ll adjust the stirrups.”

Prompto couldn’t believe their luck. In his eyes, this was an award greater than any amount of gil. “You mean…we get to ride them?!” he looked the chocobos over in delight, amazed at their ability to answer the whistle call from so far away. “This is the best day ever! Ignis, snap a picture of me on the chocobo!”

Noctis’ lip twitched in a smirk. Prompto was such a child sometimes. “Sure beats walking,” he commented, approaching the chocobo nearest to him. The chocobo stood by patiently, his golden feathers glittering in the sun.

“Can’t be that difficult.” Gladiolus didn’t require instruction. He slid his foot through the saddle’s loop and hoisted himself onto the chocobo without an ounce of trouble. The chocobo chirped and looked back at him, but didn’t seem to mind his newest rider.

Prompto, of course, was amazed. As usual, Gladiolus made everything look so easy.

“Couple of pointers couldn’t hurt,” Noctis responded, mounting his chocobo as well. Like Gladiolus, he made the action seem effortless.

Only Ignis and Prompto remained on the ground. Ignis adjusted his glasses, observing the large bird-like creatures with a hint of skepticism. “Agreed. Instruction would be beneficial,” he told Sarah, glancing at Prompto as he said so. Prompto had no idea what he was doing.

Prompto was barely listening. He reached to pet what he believed was his chocobo, but the creature snapped at him irritably. Yelping in surprise, Prompto drew his hand away. Something about the chocobo was oddly familiar. He didn’t realize it right then, but it was the very one who had tossed Sarah upon their arrival to the ranch.

“Prompto, pay attention,” Ignis reminded the blond. Chuckling meekly, Prompto apologized and faced Sarah, awaiting instruction. “So…what are we supposed to do, exactly?”

“Yes!” Sarah’s excitement seemed to match Prompto’s as she hurried over to Gladiolus and began adjusting the straps on his saddle. The man seemed to know what he was doing so it only made sense to try to get him comfortable. Especially if his ankle was going to act up during the ride. “Make sure you take it easy on this ankle.” She said pointing towards the foot she had just helped into the stirrup. “Control with your thighs not with your ankles and that will help. Don’t worry you got yourself a good girl, she’ll listen.”

As she said that the chocobo he climbed on would listen to him, a squawk of disapproval echoed through the area and her head jerked towards the sound, Prompto yelped in surprise and she shook her head. “May not him. He’s feisty unless you want to try to get him to listen to you we might want to put you on another chocobo.” A nod rose and fell her head as she went to the prince, adjusting his straps and giving the chocobo a friendly pat.

“Here I’ll use you as an example,” Her attention moved from the prince high on his mount to the two left on the ground. “Come here and watch.” A gentle gesture she brought the two over to watch what she did with the rider.

“One strap in each hand, if you want to turn left pull the one in your left hand to move her head left. And the same for the right. To stop, give a gentle pull back on the straps but don’t pull high or they’ll jump. Pull the straps to your hip forcing their head down and back so they know to stop. Pulling back for a long period of time will make them walk backwards. To go, just push on their sides with your thighs, you can also use your heels but that might make them sprint and with someone having a hurt ankle it might be difficult on his ankle.” With that she stepped away from the prince and went to Ignis, giving basic instructions on how to get on the man was soon on his mount with ease.

She then moved to Prompto and the rather snippy chocobo. “You sure you want to ride him?” She asked as she took a hold of the head harness and turned her attention back to Prompto with a gentle smile. “If you want to ride him that’s okay and if he goes a bit jumpy on you I can help even from my chocobo. But I don’t want to make you uncomfortable by having you ride a chocobo you’re not okay with.”
