"Where did the Giants begin their attack? And which way did the people flee?" Anchor asked. He understood the strain that the guards were currently under, and would try his best not to play into the hand of the brashest of their group, who he could feel was looking for a fight to make up for the battle they had lost.

"Just outside, we have a few guards of the caravan we traveled with. We could have them send word of what happened here to their next stop while we aid you in searching for your people."

"Ha ha." The bald guard stated mirthlessly in response to Tortetarte's questions. "Unless you lot are considerably more powerful than you look and happen to have a small fortune in diamonds to give up, there's nothing you can do to help." Unlike Sydiri, this guard does have a sword at his hip. When Tortetarte gets too close to the dead woman he lays a hand upon his hilt. "No thoughts of looting and desecrating the dead now. We clear?"

Sydiri, who doesn't seem to be paying attention to her fellow guard's rudeness, seems very distracted by Marcon's display. "Oh, well, your words are greatly appreciated?" She says, sounding somewhat confused. "Though, if truth be told, we managed to hold this keep only because they made no true attempt to take it. They appeared out of nowhere in a flying castle, dropping rocks from above. Once after all the townsfolk had fled and the bridge was broken did they descend to uproot the Nightstone, bring it back to their castle and depart."

"There are systems of caves about a mile North of our town. It is possible that our people have taken refuge there to wait out the attack." The Damaran woman added in. Then, when the Tethyrian seemed to be starting to speak up, she continued more loudly, drowning out whatever he might have been about to say. "While I realize it has been days since the attack and plenty of time for our people to have returned- if we have others willing to investigate, then what do we have to lose?"

"Ah, yes, the fabled Nightstone for which the town is named. Olgalla references it only obliquely; to what end might a giant in a floating castle take it?"

Marcon rises, his expression intent on Sydiri and her words. Baldo Shitass nd the other two might as well not be there at all, from how the young warrior acts.

"There is an actual "Nightstone"? I had never thought of the word as anything but the name of the town. All of this destruction simply for that?"

Anchor crossed an arm in front of his chest, and placed his other hand on his chin as in thought. It was evident that what happened to Nightstone was beyond anything that the Emerald Enclave had anticipated.

"If these caves are as close as you say, it shouldn't take us long to search for your people. We can also keep an eye out for this flying castle."

Tortetarte says a small prayer under his breath for the loss of one so young. "I would not consider looting a viable option in most cases sir...mercenary?""However, I would be more than willing to assist you in burial, or any last rites your benefactor may have preferred."

Looking to Marcon and Anchor, "Theren and I will need a breather before we attempt any daring rescues. But I am more than willing to continue to assist the town...as best we can."

"Of course there was a Nightstone. You think we named our damn towns by rolling a bunch of dice to figure things out?" Guradsman Shitass snapped. "This isn't a damn game you know." Though his attitude hadn't improved in the slightest, he did seem to relax slightly. There was the possibility he might not have seen the people before him as mere looters and might have upgraded them in his mind into the category of 'vagabond' or 'transient'.

"As I started saying before, he is Torem Breck." Sydiri cut in, now that it seemed the man was done with his outright accusations. "She is Alara Winterspell and he is Kaelen Zam." She continued, indicating first the Damaran woman and then the Tethyrian man. "We haven't the slightest clue why we were attacked for the Nightstone. We have had no trouble with giants before and would have given little complaint if they wished to examine the stone in peace."

"We can tend to burial rights between what is left of Lady Nandar's guard as our final duty to her line. You are welcome to stay in our town to rest and recover if you need to do so. If you are truly dedicated to helping discover what has become of our people, then I would offer you either the Nightstone Inn if it still stands or our own barracks if you desire." said Alara, after firmly rebuffing Tortetarte's offer.

That is fair.

Tortetarte gives a semblance of a bow (no hips), and turns to walk back to the bridge to meet up with the two who stayed back with the caravan guards.

Seeing that Marcon and Anchor appear to have everything well in hand, Theren tips his head to the guards and turns and leaves with Tortetarte.

Whitetabard would have spun in his grave to see the cursory nod Marcon gives the other guards before returning his attention to Sydiri.

"We will have ample time to speculate on their motives after we have effected the rescue of the townsfolk. My companions will be grateful of rest before we depart to fulfill my oath."

"Yes, well, we'll leave you to attend to your final duty."

Anchor said, motioning to the body before them, before turning and making his way towards the door. Half way to the door, he turned and said,

"We will pass word on to the others that came with us with the caravan about what happened here. Hopefully they will be able to catch up with it tonight or in the morning, depending on if they join us in the search for survivors. It shouldn't have gotten far before stopping for the night."

Anchor bowed his head slightly towards the group before returning his cap to it and leaving the keep.

The guards do nothing to stop you departing the keep, but do seem to return to their bickering among one another. This time, they do it in a much more hushed fashion. shooting the occasional glance at the departing caravan guards as if still not completely certain about their intentions. The sun is setting rapidly and it will be dark very soon.

Tortetarte Crosses back to the other side of the broken bridge, and heads to meet up with the 4 who stayed at the cart.

Anchor also crosses back to the other side of the broken bridge, safely using the robe to cross this time.

Yielding to the wisdom of the others, as Darling of the Dales advises, Marcon crosses the bridge and looks to make camp in town.

As you all cross the bridge and begin to head back towards the cart in the middle of the town square, you notice something rather unusual. It seems that a large number of horsemen have arrived from somewhere and partially encircled the cart. Though you are a bit far away and unable to discern too much until you get closer, it seems as though one of the riders has taken the lead and approached the caravan guards you left behind. At the moment things seem to be going peacefully enough, but there is no mistaking that these riders are all armed and likely ready for a fight if some manner of hostile action were to provoke them.

"Swagger is the finest armor," Marcon quotes Caspian The Duelist softly before making his approach, his sword sheathed but visible and his shield still strapped on. As he approaches, his smile is wide and his voice booming and friendly.

"Well met, friends! How are we this evening?"

Seeing no reason to believe that these new individuals are hostile, Theren also walks forward keeping his weapon sheathed. Besides, his fists are almost as deadly as the weapon he wields anyway.

Tortetarte realizing this day has left him more ragged then he's felt in a long time, gives a deep sigh, and follows behind the two more rambunctious go getters.

Anchor, too, makes his way closer to the new arrivals, going over the details of the attack on the town in his head. These horsemen may have more information to help figure out what is going on.

As Marcon calls out to them, Anchor raises a hand in greeting.
