“Only the worth may possess the power I guard. Whether that be you or the one you speak of matters little. Prove yourself worthy and you will have your prize. Fail and you will become food and fuel.” The Killiks continue to close in.

Building up flame in my fist, I slam it into the ground in front of me, blue flames blasting out in a half-sphere around myself, Luci, and Caelin, incinerating the bugs. "Then by all means, keep sending the Kiliks to die. But we will NOT yield."

While Zar’kun unleashes flames at the Killiks, I decide to take the opposite side and, coincidentally, the opposite element. It is a power I refer to as Winds of Csilla. Summoning the cold air around us into my hands, I unleash a blast of ice at the bugs, freezing them in place.

Caalin Daemon

I hold my hand over my head and summon Electric Judgement, a power Marek taught me. Green streams of lighting crackle from my hands, flying into the walls to knock the Killiks down.

After a few minutes of the triple onslaught of Force Power, the Killiks... back off. They stop attacking completely and blow their heads in submission.

I look around the group of bugs before facing the pulsing blue engine again. "Are you satisfied? Or do you want more?" I mentally cursed myself. Of course it was a dark side test, the Rakata had been rank with it.

There is a shift in the air, and new movement can be seen above the generator. Slowly, a humanoid form begins to float down from above, and the Killiks all back away reverently. The figure that descends towards the trio is tall and thin, with a cone shaped head and eye stalks that stick horizontally from each side. It is a Rakata.

He lands softly, his robes flowing around him. He lifts his head to scrutinize the three challengers. “Your power is great. Far greater than those who came before. I deem you... worthy.” He begins to walk towards them. “I am called the Caretaker. What are you called?”

“And I am Millu’ci’vanda of the Chiss and the Jedi. Formerly of the Oroboro Nest.

Caalin Daemon

“I’m Caalin Da.... Caalin Xobek of the Pacifist Sith.”

The Caretaker

“I greet all of you as worthy champions. My purpose, as Zar’kun asks, is to watch over Graveyard Station and protect the power that is hidden here. Now that you have proven your great strength in the Force, I grant you access to the core of this station, and its power source. No doubt that is what you have come for.”

"More or less. Might we inquire," I ask as I approach where the door had appeared, "what the purpose of this core is?"

"That will require some explanation." He turns and raises his hand. A platform rises out of the deck, and the Caretaker beckons the three to follow him as he step onto it. Once everyone is on the platform, it begins to ascend. "Thousands of years ago, during the waning years of the Infinite Empire, our people, the Rakata, began to lose our connection to the Living Force. Each generator was weaker than the last, and our power over the universe began to diminish. In a desperate attempt to reconnect ourselves to the Living Force, our scientists began development on a machine that capable of harnessing and manipulate the energies of the universe."

Millu'ci'vanda

"Would you describe it as... celestial manipulation?"

The Caretaker

"Some believed this to be the case, yes, but the true function of the construct they created is much more."

"Would it involve, in anyway, tampering with the Living Force itself?"

"Tampering, controlling, and directing the Living Force." The platform rises to the top of the generator, where tubes and wires connect it to a peculiar looking machine; a large circular device with three gyroscopic axis. The machine radiates increasingly strong Force energy. "This is what the engineers built, the Tempest Eye. A machine that draws power from the Force itself and transfer it elsewhere. At the moment, it is powering this station, but it was originally designed to power much more."

Caalin Daemon

"You mean the Rakata people, right? You said they'd lost their connection to the Force. So... theoretically, could this machine be used to transfuse the Force into a being with little to no connection to it?"

The Caretaker

"Not theoretically. THIS was the constructs primary function. When fully operational, the Tempest Eye is able to draw the energy from worlds with a strong connection to the Living Force, for example Tython or Korriban. When an individual connects themselves to the device, it channels the collected power into their body, awakening the Force within them. But this is just one of many uses for the Tempest Eye.

Millu'ci'vanda

"Could the process can be reversed? FOr example, could an individual strong in the Force to channel their power into a dead world, and help life to reawaken and prosper once again?"

The Caretaker

"That is very possible, though seeding an entire would would require a great sacrifice of energy. It would most definitely kill anyone who attempted it." Motions to the Tempest Eye again. "The machine in it's current state is not fully functional, however. Without the Pupil, it can only draw energy, not direct it. And the Iris can only store so much energy before it risks overloading. Unfortunately, the Pupil and Iris were separated millennia ago by rebellious slaves."

"Pupil and Iris, huh?" I hum to myself thoughtfully before snapping my fingers. "The orb! That's why it's been trying to direct us here! Caretaker, is the Pupil a reddish black orb? Seems kinda self aware?"

The Caretaker

"Yes! Both halves were meant to exist separately as well as together. The pupil, when wielded alone, naturally gravitates to powerful places and individuals. I am not surprised you have come into contact with it, you wield such power. Is it in your possession still?"

Caalin Daemon

"No. It's... it was taken by our enemy. He wants to use it for evil purposes. We want to stop him."

The Caretaker

"Good and evil are matters of perspective. I care not for either. My destiny was always to protect the Iris and insure it only fell into the hands of those worthy to use it. Perhaps if this enemy you speak of comes here, he will likewise prove worthy, and with the Pupil in hand, he may finally unlock the Tempest Eye's full power."

Millu'ci'vanda

"We aren't going to let that happen. Without the pupil, what can this thing do exactly?"

The Caretaker

"The Iris will draw energy from it's surroundings, as it does now. It will feed off of the life energy of the Killiks and, on occasion, the weak travelers that fail my test. Sacrifices must be made to keep it fueled. If the Iris were to run out of power, Graveyard Station would collapse. It is the only thing keeping these ships tethered together. But... now that you have proven worthy, you may do with it as you wish. Draw the power from the Iris into yourselves and become more powerful that you could ever imagine."

I wait for the Rakata to move out of earshot before looking at Zar’kun. “This is not at all what I imagined the Tempest Eye to be. I elected something much closer to the Star Forge. But this... how can a machine do the things this being claims it can do? I’ve never heard of such a thing before.”

"Nor would we have. The Rakata were the only Force Sensitive beings to make the kinds of technology they did, but their arrogance cost them, as we know." I shake my head. "It would seem we need to make a decision. And there's only really one, who takes that power and keeps it from Sucal?"

I look towards the Tempest Eye. “I don’t know if it’s that simple. This thing leeches power from the universe. I fear that even if we drain the stores up Force energy from it, it will simply refill itself in time. We might be only delaying its use rather than stopping it outright.”

"Then one of us needs to face off with Sucal and stop him before he can ever leave Coruscant. We already know we won't be able to convince the Rakata to move deeper into the Maw and we can't risk just leaving it here and hoping he doesn't find it. Besides, who knows how long it might take for the Eye to build up another charge of this level." I shake my head. "We can't afford to gamble at this point, Luci."

“Hmm... we don’t k ow what may happen once one of us is granted this power. If we are not careful, it may be too much to handle and it could kill us.” I look at Zar’kun. “Is there a way to perhaps split it between us? Or maybe bring it back to base so that everyone can draw strength from it?”

After a moment of thought, I nod to myself. "We'll take it to the old base on Hoth. It's the only one of our bases that hasn't yet been exposed." Turning, I face Caretaker. "We won't draw from it just yet, but we will take the Eye all the same. Before we do, however, what will become of you and the Kiliks?"
