-=Mission Report=-
-=Inquisitor Marcus Kane, Orodo Hereticus=-
-=Raynoth IV, Hive World=-

We entered orbit an hour since and aim to make planet fall once all equipment checks are complete, ill preparedness begets ill discipline. Ill discipline betrays a weak mind. A weak mind begets Heresy.

The planetary defences of Raynoth IV have been on high alert for the past century, they are reportedly expecting an attack any year now and enjoy regular patrols from the Imperial Navy and a sizeable standing garrison.

I rate their outward defences formidable.

Their internal defences, however...

Reports have reached our Order of possible corruption, rooted deep within in the seething Hive below.
Potentially spawned in response to the constant threat of attack.
The Heretic will ever turn towards anything which may offer salvation of the flesh, with no thought to the damnation it may bring.

My loyal Warband and I will root out this corruption, whatever it may be, with fire and steel if need be.

Alright, so a Grey Knight would definitely be overqualified for this, but how worried is the Inquisitor about the region exactly? Would say a Red Hunter Scout still be OP in the given scenario?

If you are still wanting to Roleplay an elite Soldier type I'd encourage a lean more towards the level of Storm Trooper than Astartes.

However I would be willing to accept a young Scout Marine, still raw, perhaps assigned to the Inquisitor for seasoning.

Well I don't want to shoehorn an Astartes for its own sake so I'll probably make a death cultist or something of the sort if that's alright, or perhaps a Martian of some sort (in which case, how high a boyo could I make?)

I'm fairly happy to accept anything that fits and isn't too overpowered.
Investigation and skirmish will be the aim of the game here.
We're not about to land a Titian in the City centre.

Give it some thought and when you're ready submit a Bio.
Think Inquisitors retinue.

A Death Cultist would be good.
As would a Tech Priest or something similar.

I was originally planning to run a ratling scout/sniper/blackmarketier/cook.

Now? Now I want to run a sister.

That'd make her a Sororitas acolyte, I'll say of the Order of the Argent Shroud.

I'm thinking chainsword and bolt pistol for weapons, alongside your traditional soritas-pattern power armor.

Sound good?

I just have to say the Rattling sounds like he would have been awesome.

The Sister sounds great too, go for it. :D

Basically the difference between a rogue and a paladin. I've played rogues. This is my first (decent) chance to play a paladin-analogue.

If you want a paladin analogue you could also go crusader.

Eh, a crusader's primary, secondary, and tertiary concerns are the inquisitor's safety, the inquisitor's goals, and the inquisitor's glory, in that order. They're also, to my knowledge, attached to houses which treat them more like knights.

It's cannon that sisters are protected by the Emperor. Some of them have gotten literal magic powers as a result of their faith. Their primary, secondary, and tertiary concerns are the Emperor's will, the Emperor's will, and the Emperor's will, in that order.

It's a subtle difference, but a sister of the argent shroud better fits my purposes, I think.

Is uh... is anyone else thinking of signing up for this?

Well I hope folk are going to sign up, otherwise my stint here is going to be rather short.

Still open and I've got the intro and story plan ready to go, just waiting on a few Bios.

Ready when you are, gents.

That's understandable mate, the fandom is so vast you are literally spoilt for choice.

Perhaps your Astartes Scout idea? Reckon he'd fit well enough, especially now we've lost our Rattling we could use a Sniper.

There's no rush gents, but as soon as you're ready we can launch straight into it.

Aye I believe he was, hopefully he'll be along too, four would be a good number.

If it's a sniper we need I was considering a Vindicare assassin.

I'll probably go with the Scout, because it was for him originally I had an idea; I like the other concepts I had but nothing concrete for them in my head. The Scout I had in mind would be ready for many purposes, not just sniping he'd also be ready to just use a silenced stalker bolter or shotgun and the likes so Skwint could go along with his Vindicare

A vindicare assassin seems a little... excessive? Like, a space marine scout, a novitiate sister, a bullgryn; Those are all on a pretty level scale, near the bottom of their respective organizations.

Vindicares are sent to execute the Emperor's greatest enemies with a single bullet. When they put together an assassin team to go after Horus, one vindicare assassin was considered sufficient for the task. They failed, sure, but that's still one-sixth of the team sent after a primarch.

I don't mean to harp on about this, but Andreyich was told he couldn't play a greyknight because it was 'too much.' Vindicares are sent to assassinate space marine chapter masters, and usually do it while the target is in full gear.

A ratling seems like the appropriate tear for a sniper in this group. A death cultist would be the right mold for an assassin.
A Vindicare would be like using an earth-shaker round to kill a single chaos cultist. The ammunition costs so much, you could never justify using it for anything of that scale. Literally, anything that would require a vindicare on the team to kill would be so much above the paygrade of the rest of the characters present, it renders having them almost a moot point.

_____________________________

To be clear, I'm not saying "don't let skwint play a vindicare.' I'm saying, "if he gets to play a vindicare, Andreyich should be able to play his grey knight, and I'll need to come up with something higher up the food chain that an acolyte."

May I just nudge your attention back up towards the "Lore bore" rule.

I take your point but I've seen too many decent 40k threads go straight down the drain or get indefinitely held up because of needless OC lore points and counter points.

In place of a Vindicare might I recommend a Storm Trooper or Catachan sniper?
You could still be a highly trained professional more in keeping with the groups current level.

I said what I thought appropriate to get my point across. If I'd just said 'Vindicares too OP' you wouldn't have taken me seriously, thought I was being a troll, and/or ignored the comment because it's groundless.

I admit, I can be long-winded; However, if I'm not allowed to discuss 40k lore in so far as it's relevant to the conversation, how am I going to give context to any statement I make on the topic?

I understand, and to an extent, agree with you that people arguing about the lore can ruin a good RP. However, if you're trying to inform me that I won't be allowed to talk about 40k lore in a 40k roleplay, to any extent, then I'm afraid I won't be participating.
