Red Shard is a part of Doros, though they're kind of in the boonies. Though that's also why it's a good spot for Pirates to land and offload loot.

If orc warships have "ostentatiously detailed masts that made sure everyone could see their colors and know their intent" I'm guessing that means Talogan could make it out fairly easily. If so, are the warships flying the colors of anyone particularly notable? And if these details also express the intent of the warships, would Talogan be able to easily decipher the intent they're trying to express?

You can roll a History check to see if these masts are particularly notable. There are three different masts, but you'll only need to do one check for each. Generally speaking, you know the Black Flag on a ship means that you are approaching for battle. Naturally, pretty much all the orc ships have a black flag, but their individual emblems can speak more about their particular alliances or purposes.

Yeah, you know these orc ships are primed and ready for a fight, but their iconography is frankly meaningless if you aren't privy to their culture. Best you can tell is that one appears to be two spike circles looped through each other, another is a fairly bog standard crossed battle axe, and the last one is a basic looking skull with a spear going through it. It could have some deeper meaning, but it could also just be for intimidation factor.

Sorta yes sorta no. It's more akin to a title. Literally it means "Those who lose themselves in battle", but formally it refers to Berserker Barbarians. Something being named Katalmach is weird, akin to calling yourself "Blackbeard" or "Goblin Slayer" as your actual name, at least among orcs. Natch, as Katalmach is the name of a rather infamous pirate nowadays, lots of orcs would name themselves Katalmach in an attempt to ape it's reputation, which has mixed results. Most of the time orcs or anyone familiar with the name hears it, expect eyerolls since it usually means someone is trying to seem tougher by using someone else name. Anyone who doesn't know the name by reputation but does know orcish may just think whoever named that orc is weird.

Far enough that you don't see the hamlet anymore, and barely see the coastline, though the darkening clouds that are approaching is also making things harder to see anyways.
