I finally beat the federation mothership on normal difficulty. Used the Osprey, knowing that it didn't have stealth, but figuring I could make it work if I was clever enough. I *just* was. Picked up an extra rock crew and an extra mantis, which made for a great one-two punch while boarding ships in sectors -- rocks go first, hurt people; artillery beam sweeps through damages all kinds of shit, throw in a laser barrage or two to fuck with their health and oxygen systems and send the weaklings scattering to save their ship. While they run around my Mantis unit is just perched waiting to warp in and annihilate them. Punch and sweep, pretty much, it worked great. Got enough cash to fully upgrade my shields *literally* at the Last Stand; I was running a minimal defense drone, two burst-laser II posts, and an ion cannon (had Hermes missiles for backup but never needed them).

Basically long story short, I kicked the mothership's ass with six energy on my guns and a small pad teleport. We were able to do just enough damage after the arty took down their shields a notch, that we could trade volleys for a few and chew up the rest of his wiring, while the port teams hopped around, killing the gunmen and crippling their weapons. Took a fuckin' POUNDING, but then on that last round, with the energy shield, we cracked it open once and poured so much death down inthere that the thing never closed again. And they were boarding me, too, at that point, but I held them at bay. It. Was. Ninja. If.... you know, if ninjas were good at, like, personnel management for growth and development. Then I pull my rocks out and open up my cannons and I swear, the dudes gave up repairing shit, they just stood there like "Well, fuck. We're dead johnny."

BOOM.

Curtain.

Roll credits. I am god of the space people.

Considering how much I fail at FTL (never having completed it, even on easy.) this impresses me.

Although I never pause, which doesn't help strategy very much, too impatient.

I think I got to like the 10th sector, that's as far as I got. I haven't played it a hell of a lot, I should go back at it again. I need to stop compulsively checking everything out. >_>

Took me 4 tries to beat easy, I then beat normal a couple of tries after that. Of course that was back when the game was released in 2012, not sure why it seems to have had a sudden peak in popularity recently.

Really after 74 hours I would have expected you to see everything the game has to offer. I don't remember it as having /that/ much content.

I spent a lot of time unlocking as much shit as possible on Easy. But in general, it's become my 'Okay, play one run, go to sleep' game. So pretty much every night I'm out there boarding bitches.
