Background
The ancestors of the Hraunfljót were among the first Vikings to arrive in Iceland. Struck by the natural terror and beauty of that place, they dwelt in volcanic caverns, serving as leaders and spiritual guides for those who feared the terrible power of the flames beneath the earth. To placate the Fire Giants and avert the end of the world, rituals and sacrifices were offered.
Their line as magi was not properly established until the Christians made their way to Iceland and paganism was pushed to the fringes. For hundreds of years, the Hraunfljót remained so, not associating much with the Clock Tower or with the outside world at all.
It was Tómas who broke that trend. As a young man, he began leveraging what few connections his family had in order to meet with mages from distant shores. He eventually ventured out himself, seeking a formal education that would modernize his understanding of the ancient craft he had been taught.
As the years went by, Tómas' colleagues began to seek out marriages that would profit their families and contribute to the development of their magecraft. On a quiet evening, a friend he had not seen for several years introduced him to his toddler, a boy with a bright future before him as the inheritor of that family's arts.
Soon after, Tómas made an error that is often fatal for a magus: he became human.
Every person and thing trampled under the march of mages' progress suddenly seemed to him to be an unacceptable waste. Homunculi and familiars used as mere material suddenly held infinite value as living beings. Before he knew it, he hated everything about the life he had chosen to live. And so he uprooted himself from everything in order to fight.
Personality
A man who has wasted his life. Tómas formerly held dignity as a magus, but he has come to reject this. Kindness is new to him. It is something he hopes to learn. The question of how exactly to proceed in the War still weighs heavily on his mind.
One thing is certain: he needs to make everyone understand. The life he now believes in isn't something that can be achieved even with the power to change the world. However, if hearts and minds can be touched, and the mages of the world can be made to grasp even the vaguest outline of the hearts of others, empathy may be possible. That is his wish.

General Magecraft:
A workshop, familiars, hypnotism, etc. At Tómas' age, this is beyond second nature. His particular brand of familiars are "elves", small beings of rock that excel at hiding in low places.
Galdrastafir:
The Icelandic craft of staves. The Hraunfljót had a hand in the foundation of this art during the Middle Ages, and they have remained as some of its most skilled users. Developed from the intersection of runecraft and Christian symbolism, staves are symbols that render blessings and curses upon their inscription. Tómas primarily makes use of protective staves against curses, magecraft, physical harm, ambushes, and so forth, but their usage is quite broad. There are even staves which may force terror or injury upon an enemy.
Tómas has the highest affinity for staves engraved upon a place in order to protect and fortify it as a workshop.
Volcanic Calling:
Magecraft that manipulates flames and earth as one. Earthen materials in the vicinity are heated to the point of liquefaction and simultaneously "erupt" at Tómas' direction. Far more destructive than simple flame magecraft, the full power of these spells can lead vast areas to ruin. At the same time, through cooling, it is something that can be used to build. Burdened with the concept of "apocalyptic heat suppressed beneath the Earth", this magecraft shows its true worth when heat is allowed to build up over time.
Bounded Fields (Volcanos)
The art of isolating a place beneath the Earth as a "Volcanic Cavern". The Hraunfljót are often lauded for their bounded fields, and crossing into one of their spaces has been compared by visitors to "travelling backwards a thousand years in a single step". It is a place where treasure and tribute are melted down to allow the magus to take control of the natural forces of the underground. The volcanoes were both sources of immense catastrophe and also the place where sacrifice was made to avert that catastrophe. Thus, danger is suppressed until all hell breaks loose at the appointed moment. The Hraunfljót are invulnerable within such spaces, or so it was once said.
Magic Crest: 500 years, containing an immense store of "heat". Allows for the immediate drawing of staves in empty space.
Mystic Codes
Lahat Surtr:
A flaming sword modelled after both the armaments of Christian angels and the fire giant of Norse Mythology. A large sword whose blade is completely engulfed in destructive flame. However, it is currently sealed away. As long as the scabbard remains, it is more of a defensive tool with a strong attribute of "suppressing destruction". Attacks striking the scabbard are dispersed.
Geothermal Case
Under normal circumstances, a workshop created on the fly by Tómas could never come close to the supremacy of Eyjafjallajökull Cavern. However, this basalt tube contains an impossible store of perpetually-molten stone churning within, sourced directly from the ancestral grounds. By releasing it ritually within a space, even when natural volcanic activity is not present, an ideal ground for a volcanic cavern workshop is established.
In a pinch, it ought to be possible to fling some of the lava at someone.
