"There is a big difference between a regular PC and a government PC. I figured something when I see what I have to work with." She wasn't computer expert but she had done enough spying for her father that she knew a few tricks. She might be able to hide their activity at least long enough for them to look at what they had and figure out if they could use it and how using it would benefit them.

"Canned food is fine." Roxy assured him. She wasnt picky. As long as there food thats all that she required. "You're welcome to enjoy the lake while I try to figure out how to keep the eye from being corrupted." The eye could be used for good. It could help find missing people and criminals. It could help the police in fighting crime. But it could also be used for other things like spying on the military and other countries.

At Roxy's agreement, he proceeded to drive them straight back towards the state line where the lodge was situated. The rest of the journey back was mostly in an awkward silence, the pair having likely been drained of any spare energy for casual conversation due to being constantly on the move. It was about high time that they got some proper rest. The mood of the familiar area upon their arrival, with its small lake and surrounding greenery, was significantly more cheerful without the veil of the night's darkness, though no less peaceful.

Avoiding the few, scattered tourists at the site so as to minimize their chances of drawing attention, Wyn turned into secluded, uphill path concealed by trees, the van making its way along the natural track until a large, standalone structure emerged into view through the bark and leaves. He circled the vehicle around the building to the back, slowing to a stop to park there. Dragging out an audible sight of relief at reaching their destination, he released his seatbelt and exited the van with Roxy presumably right behind him.

"Well, here we are," he remarked flatly, stepping onto the lodge's porch and punching the memorized combination he had gotten from his roommate into the digital lock before swinging the heavy wooden door open to reveal the cozy interior of what would be their makeshift base of operations. "Feel free to use the facilities, the room with the PC is on the second floor."

Roxy starred out the window deep in thought as Wyn drove. She had no idea what they had gotten into. All that she knew was that there was no going back. They eye was too powerful. It could be used for good but it was too easy someone to use in harmful ways. She couldn't destroy it. Too many people knew it existed. The blue prints were in a cloud somewhere. Someone would recreate it eventually.

She was brought out of her thoughts by the van door opening. She figured they had arrived. Roxy studied the cabin. It practically screamed vacation. Which might work in their favor. People wouldn't think too much about them being here. Not as much some place that looked a season place or a place that hadnt been used in years.

"Thanks for giving me permission." Roxy knew she was being sparky and lashing out. She was tired. It had been too long since she had had more then a couple hours of sleep. "Let's head upstairs. We need to figure out our next step." She made her way up the stairs. The sooner they had a plan the better.

Wyn shook his head in quiet amusement at her sarcastic retort as he shut the door behind them and secured it, already used to her consistent cynical disposition. The warm hues and snug furnishings, as well as the relaxing scent of the natural environment seeping into the enclosed space caused a sudden wave of drowsiness to hit him, accumulated from the constant activity and mental strain of their situation's gravity. He blinked hard, rubbing his eyes in his effort to resist slipping into dreamland, at least for a while longer, as he trudged across the hollow floorboard and up the stairs after her.

"Figure out our next step huh?" He echoed, almost casually, running a hand through his hair as they entered the study. He plonked himself onto the folded sofa bed in the corner of the room, momentarily unmoving as he connected with the soft surface, allowing the tension in his body to dissipate. "I vote for running that chip's program again so we can try to figure it out, this time without prying eyes, though that judgement might not be the most sound considering my fatigue. I mean, if you want to get some shuteye before making any critical decisions, I'll take the first shift and keep watch."

Roxy was tired but she was used to ignoring that. She couldn't sleep until they had some sort of plan that might work. She never did things by halves. Too much was at risk to take chances on waiting. She didnt know what she wanted to do about her brother. Part of her felt bad leaving him with their father knowing how demanding the man could be. There was a chance that Drake would be treated better than she had been, the thought hurt but she hoped that was the case, but even then it wouldn't be the childhood the boy should have. She didn't know if that was something she could or should do something about.

"No. Let's look at this first." She took out the disk with The Eye out of her bag and put it into the computer. She tapped her fingers on the desk as she waited for The Eye to load.

"Suit yourself," he murmured in a half sigh under his breath as he leaned back further into the reclined seat, his eyes sliding shut as his head touched the plush surface. "You've seen me solve that puzzle before, you've got it this time."

However, as he attempted to succumb to the rest his system had been nagging at him to take for hours, he realized, that for some inexplicable reason, it was suddenly not possible. He was still with her physically, but not being awake with her felt... wrong. They were inherently connected by this bizarre past that neither of them had asked for, yet somehow they were now bearing the responsibility to clean up this whole mess. Regardless, the rhythmic tapping of her fingers on the desk, which should have been dismissible background noise, hammered intrusively at the fragile bubble of peace he was trying to withdraw into, making her anxiety contagious.

"I'll... get us some refreshments," he finally decided, prying himself off the sofa bed with a soft grunt and heading back downstairs.

The scent of instant coffee wafting through the cabin's kitchenette energized him slightly. The sachets stored on the shelf could not beat fresh beans, but they were good enough. After the beverage was done, he returned upstairs with a small tray carrying two cups of it and several tiny packs of vacuum-sealed vegetarian jerky while already chewing on an open one of the latter.

He slid one of the coffee cups within her reach and placed the tray at the corner of desk before sitting beside her. "So... what did I miss?"

Roxy gave Wyn a confused look. Like she understood or remembered what he had done. She put the chip into the computer and waited for it to load. She frowned when he decided to leave but figured he wouldn't be gone long. She started at the text rapidly began to fill the dark area on the screen. It finally ended with a matrix of alphabets with each column and row numbered along its X and Y axes, and the text cursor continued to blink on the line below that, likely expecting an input. It took her a moment to remember the name he used. She had just typed it in when he returned.

"It's thinking." Roxy answer honest. This time the eye did open quickly. She wasn't she if that was their connection, the computer, or something about this being the second location they opened it at. Anxiety shot through her as the eye finally appeared on the screen. But it still seemed to be waiting for something. A second box appeared. "Since the first one was your name, I guess the second one will be mine." She hated her full name and her father knew that.

"Interesting..." he murmured through his subtle yet continuous bites of the jerky in his hand, leaning back in his chair to project an image of casual relaxation mixed with detached interest as he kept his gaze on the familiar matrix that had reappeared on screen. However, instead of the eye that had caused Roxy's initial panic back at the internet cafe, the grid of alphabets remained after she had typed his name in, and the text cursor reappeared, expecting a second input. "Heh, I guess it's warming up to us."

He then raised a brow at her in curiosity at her suggestion that the next input might be her name, considering his initial impression that the lock on the chip had been implemented by his father. "Yours? Did my dad know you sunshine?"

Regardless, he watched as she identified her own full name from the matrix and input the corresponding numbers. He leaned in, intrigued as the command prompt disappeared and an array of heavily-pixelated images popped up with an accompanying loading bar. The images were beginning to sharpen into comprehensible ones, but very gradually. The loading bar was inching along at a snail's pace, conveying the implication that it would be a wait of at least a few hours. It would seem that whatever was happening on screen was supposed to happen, which meant that they had cracked the code correctly. Perhaps his own father had simple built upon the algorithm that hers had created to secure the chip? Anything was possible at this point.

"Well, I foresee that we're going to be waiting for quite a while," he remarked, taking a sip of his coffee before standing from his seat. "I'll be at the rooftop balcony if you want to join me at any time. It's got a good view of the surrounding area and I can check if we've been followed from there."

"They worked together." Roxy acknowledged with a shrug. She didn't really remember the man. He was a shadow in her mind even though she had been old enough to remember him. She was sure there was a reason but right now that didn't matter. She pushed the thought away. Those memories wouldn't do them any good.

Roxy growled when Wyn commented that it was going to take awhile.she could see that he was right. She stood up. "There's no reason to stay here." She debated going to the roof. There was no reason for them to spend time together. She was usually comfortable being alone but right now she didn't know why but she didnt want to be alone.

She climbed the stairs to the roof wondering why she was choosing to spend time with Wyn. She should. He was a temporary part of her life. Like everyone else in her life. Her mother had walked out when she was nine and her father had kicked her out at sixteen. Roxy had been alone so long she wasn't sure she remembered how to be with someone.

At the top of the stairs, Roxy looked up. "So many stars."

After climbing a couple more flights of stairs, Wyn emerged from the access doorway onto the open balcony and made a beeline for the nearest deck chair, throwing himself onto the sturdy piece of furniture with an exaggerated sigh of satisfaction as he set his coffee cup onto the side table nearby. The breeze was gentle and refreshing, carrying the earthy scents of the forest surrounding the lodge. The lake was still visible beyond the greenery, its calm water reflecting the star-littered expanse of the night sky. The last term break did not seem too long ago, during which he had been right here, albeit with completely different company and without the substantial weight of uncertainty dampening the mood.

He then raised an eyebrow in surprise when he heard Roxy's voice making a comment about the view from behind. Her decision to join him up here was one he had not expected, considering her clear displeasure with his presence the entire time they had been together. However, he chose not to articulate this observation in an attempt to keep the awkwardness of their current dynamic at the very minimum, instead reaching for his coffee again and raising it towards her as a playful toast as she approached.

"Indeed, quite an experience for anyone who grew up in areas polluted by night light, which would be most of us at this point," he pointed out casually before taking another sip of his coffee. He glanced at her as he set the cup down once again, recalling the reason she had ended up in this mess and imagining all the times she likely had to be living rough. "Though, I suppose you've had your fair share of... stargazing opportunities."

"No. I've rarely been out of the city." Roxy answered as walked towards the roof. She had never been afraid of heights probably because she spent a lot of time in high places."My work keeps me in the city." She liked working security. She didnt even mind spying. As long as it was for a reason she agreed with. She was looking forward to being in control and doing things her way.

"Not enough people in a place like this to build a business that would use my training." She couldn't imagine spending much time out here. She would get restless. She was used to being surrounded by people.

"What's college like?" She had never had any interest in college. She had barely graduated high-school. It wasn't that she wasn't smart. She was a hands on learner. She ciuld read instructions, or listen to the teacher tell them how but it wasn't until she did something herself that she really got it.

"Ah, I see... so this is a rare opportunity for you as well," he remarked with a raised brow, conveying casual interest. He was starting to realize how much more relaxed he was in her presence now as compared to when they had first met, though that was clearly mostly due to the surreal process of how his kidnapper had gradually turned into his partner in crime in whatever this whole mess was. "Explains that sense of wonder I'm getting from you."

"So you want to know about college hmm?" He then addressed the question, averting his gaze back to the starry, velvet expanse stretching above them with a reflective sigh while feeling grateful at how naturally his small talk with this hardened mafia princess was coming along. "I'd say that it's easily been the best time of my life so far, like honestly? The best of both worlds - freedom and independence. Sure there's the seasonal exam stress and crunch times to meet project deadlines, but at the end of the day, when you leave the hustle and bustle of the academic aspect behind for the chill vibes of the campus nightlife, passing that time with your peers who are all in the same boat as you makes it all worthwhile, and for me personally, that's my time to shine as the local musician. Boy... bet they're already missing me at the bar."

He turned back to flash her cheerful smile that seemed to carry something more complex. "Well, nothing lasts forever, and sometimes you just got to know when you should be living in the moment and enjoy something while you still have it, even if it's a peaceful night in the middle of nature with a chick I've just met."

"I'm sorry you're missing out on that. You were lucky to have that opportunity." Roxy meant it. She hadnt gone to a regular school. Her father had wanted control of what she learned so she had been home schooled. "If there had been any other way to do this I would have but I ran out of time." Hearing that her father had finally found his partner's child had confirmed that for her.

"I hope you can get that freedom back." She knew she wouldn't. Her choices were limited. She might have to go back to marry a man who wouldn't respect her. Or she'd have to hide. Her father wanted power and she had power in her hands. Well almost she thought of the computer downloading or decoding the program. Maybe she could start over but she wasnt sure she knew enough about the normal world to fit in.

"Lucky? Yeah, definitely..." he mused with a shrug, fully aware of how his life might have gone if he had not been taken into witness protection in time all those years ago. The experience of being abducted as an adult college student was hardly ideal, but still way more manageable than if he had been that scared little boy freshly traumatized by the bloodshed that had taken place in his own home. "No worries sunshine, I totally get your situation, especially now, but hey, what's life without a little adventure once in a while, am I right?"

"As for getting certain aspects of our lives back, I'm open to the possibility. Just like how good times can be fleeting, so can bad ones," he continued, before doing a once-over of her standing form on the balcony with a languid, detached curiosity in his gaze. "Don't you want to sit? There's another chair here you know? Unless you're afraid of falling asleep once you rest."

Roxy turned and studied him for a minute. She was used to being on guard when so close to anyone. Wyn hadn't done anything threatening, and he had had a couple opportunities to do so if he wanted to. Hell he hadn't tried escaping in awhile. He had been helpful the last couple days. Maybe because this situation affect him and his future.

"I don't make a habit of relaxing around other people." She didn't trust anyone. She had learned that lesson as a teenager. She had trusted her father until he showed her why it was a bad idea to let down her guard.

"I suppose it couldn't hurt to sit for a bit." She made her way towards Wyn. She figured there was no reason for her not not for a bit. While she wasn't that tired. There was little chance of her drifting off.
