Does anybody mind if I make it a part of my official background that my Lizardman joined the party when they attacked the Lich that killed his tribe had attempted to enslave and experiment on him?

Maybe the attack didn't end the Lich. Maybe it did. Maybe they just sealed him away or something. But it ended with MC pulling a Teal'c and joining the party.

Ending a lich would probably be beyond the scope of level 3 characters, but the attack giving enough of a diversion for your character to escape would be cool by me as the GM, but I’ll leave it up to your fellow adventurers. Your character knowing the lich still exists but is too powerful to face head on yet would be a good motivation for your character becoming an adventurer to gain skill and power before seeking vengeance on the lich.

I don't mind that idea, but I agree with CajunRobinHood that it may be beyond your abilities. But I like the idea of knowing there is a lich somewhere wrecking havoc.

For my character, I've been thinking a more classic idea: someone that grew up on the streets (that explains her way of fighting) getting some money from underground fighting and odd jobs as bodyguard or basic mercenary here and there. Sometime in the near past, she decided to dip her toes on adventuring, instead of messy jobs, and encountered the party she's travelling now with (I don't mind if it's her first proper adventure group, even first adventure, or only one that finally stuck after some tries)

@CajunRobinHood I'm really sorry, but after thinking about it, I don't think I can join this one. Time/schedule aside, I had this original concept of a paladin who abandoned his god and made a pact with questionable entity to better hunt vampires (basically just paladin and warlock multiclass), but the more I think about it, the more it feels like too 'stereotypically edgy' so to speak, for my taste.

@Randomguy, That sucks, sorry to see you go. I understand not having time though.

But just a thought, as a story over game mechanics type, if you don't want so much edge, you could always embrace the dull. Instead of an excellently dual-classed slayer of the undead, you could just play a mild mannered, nerdy cleric who's only going after Strahd because of his morals and doesn't necessarily even feel up to the task..? (That is if you did happen to have any wiggle room in your schedule, of course!)

@CajunRobinHood, Sounds good. I've been reworking the end of my character backstory with this in mind and added taking revenge on the Lich as a bond.

@MooiEen that's cool. Your urban background will contrast nicely with MC's savage ways and love of nature.

And I had another thought, what if your character had signed on with a whole other adventuring party who for their first quest took on the Lich in my backstory (maybe some charlatan sold one of them a fake talisman said to give immunity to Lich's or maybe they just didn't know what they were getting into), and the others got slaughtered while our two characters were the only ones to survive and escape and have been traveling together ever since???

@RandomguyI’d also be sad to see you go, though I understand not having enough time. However, it seems like the other two are ok with the speed you said of one post a week or so. I don’t know if that changes anything for you

But like @Neziulsaid if it’s mainly a question of your initial character idea being too stereotypically edgy, don’t feel like you have to have a dark character just because the setting is dark. You could always have a character that acts like a beacon of hope in the night

Thats the tricky part. As im going through the choices I'm stuck on the character feature and background. None of them really fit any of my characters.

Thats the thing. I have characters in mind but the backgrounds dont work. Closest is the thief. So maybe that one. I could create a new one but that would take time. I guess it depends on how quickly I need to have the character ready.

@Neziul I like that plan for our characters! Sounds good to have some kind of background in adventuring, and fits better for the character's level in my opinion. For me that's alright, cool case of wrong place at the wrong time but with good enough consequences.
