Golden Age

It was 1938 and the road to World War II was fast approaching. It was also a time of heroes. Alien supermen, star spangled patriots, gun wielding vigilantes, a man on fire, wonderful women from around the world, and heroes that could fly and run at speeds the mind could barely comprehend were all around. Societies of heroes who believed in justice as well as heroes already invading the enemy on their foreign lands were in all of the newspapers. The Golden Guardian was chief among them, often cited as the first superhuman known to the public. There was a threat to America however, that remained unseen. Undercover agents and superhumans working for the Third Reich were more numerous than anyone dared dream. And during the summer of 1938 they began targeting every military instillation on the eastern coast.

This prompted the United States government and President Roosevelt to formally ask for the help of costumed individuals to protect the coast and the soldiers in the armed forces. The aforementioned Golden Guardian lead the charge and soon dozens of superheroes were banding together to help defend their homeland. There were somewhere between twenty and thirty military instillations, naval air stations, and coastal fortifications along the Atlantic seaboard. Heroes that could move at super speed or teleport were extremely helpful in checking in with bases often throughout the weeks. Several of the more important instillations made temporary living arrangements for some of the heroes volunteering. Ammunition plants and depots were high on the list for potential targets as well as the coastal fortifications. 

An ammunition plant was already attacked by Nazi superhumans called Blitzkrieg (a super speedster) and the Wall (super strong and durable, w/super jumps). There was also a small group of flying metal clad Nazi's called the Silverwings in decoded transmissions, supposedly targeting coastal military instillations and reinforced border facilities. As the Navy began its land expansion and construction on a submarine station and Naval Air station in Norfolk, Virginia, they were also victims of sabotage as several explosions and accidents have happened in the last three weeks halting construction in some areas. However the worst threats seemed to be born in the States, as a racist mobster has taken up a skull mask and began targeting minorities dubbing himself the Laughing Skull. The psycho's kill count is rumored to be well over one hundred, often leaving entire families and groups in his wake.  

Nazi spies, superhumans, and a racist mobster in a skull mask is just the beginning. Who will answer the call? And can anyone truly save the Golden Age?!

World War II is one of those eras that's just on another level. The dogfights in the skies, heroism beyond words, and the ultimate badguys in both fiction and non-fiction IMHO... Nazis. The Golden Age of comics is also the beginning of some of the longest standing legacies like Superman, Capt. America, Wonder Woman, and countless others. This RP will take elements from both Marvel and DC and be somewhat of a knockoff universe in the same way that the Invincible Universe is mostly built around DC archetypes. However you don't have to be note for note like the character you take inspiration from. There's dozens of characters from this era including the vast rosters of the Invaders, the Justice Society, the Freedom Fighters, etc. You could even take inspiration from some of the Marvel Noir stuff like Spider Noir or the comics considered Pulp era like Tarzan, Zorro, Green Hornet, the Shadow, etc. 

I also decided on the late 1930's period because technology takes away a lot of the charm that older stories possessed. Having a souped up car back in those days, a special type of ray gun, or even a rocketpack was a big enough deal LOL. The Golden Guardian is our Superman stand in but he's more like Immortal in the Invincible Universe without all the history and being immortal. I'm going back and forth on a twist in the beginning of the RP that I've used to set the stage in a few of my RPs, so if you're familiar with some of the older stuff like my JLU and DC games then you might know what kinda stuff will be in store. Since my last two interest checks didn't pan out I'm hoping superheroes beating up Nazis is enough of a premise to get a larger cast. If I can get 6-9 players for this I think we can make something awesome. 

I'm also gonna go ahead and throw a CS template up cause I'm ready to rock and roll with this one. I've already got a work in progress with a rework of the Torch of Liberty (Capt. America analog in Hellboy) making him have green flame based powers (similar to classic GL).

Powers/Skills/Equipment - 
    * Fire Generation/Manipulation - John can currently create green fire from his hands and shoot it
      like a flame thrower or shoot compacted bursts of flame hadoken style. This will likely
      develop further but nothing too crazy or OP.
    
    * Fire Resistance - Heat and fire don't bother John at all. His body is almost one with the
      fire around him.
Weaknesses - 
    * Basic weaknesses of a standard human in light body armor.
    * Water and other substances can hinder the 'Torch's abilities for varied times.

BRIEF Bio - 

BRIEF Bio - Born in 1904, John had the average life of somebody born into being a farm hand. He had basic schooling through about the fifth or sixth grade before having to take on a job. The young man helped take care of roughly twenty acres of farmland, rode horses, and was used to using outhouses. By the 1930's John hit the road and traveled up and down the eastern coast taking on factory jobs here and there. Occasionally he'd still get opportunites on farms. He was decent with firearms when the time ever came, but was as shocked as anyone would be when he created green flames from his hands. 

Moving back to north eastern Tennessee, John became friends with the Sheriff in Queensport and learned a thing or two before adopting a costumed identity. After years of using his powers in secret he finally made a name for himself as the Torch of Liberty. During his time as a costumed crime fighter the Torch faced enemies such as the O'Donnell Gang, Ghostface, and the Creature of Warpath River. 

Potential Storylines - 

Birth of the Justice Guild  - The formation of what would be this universe's first superteam.

Nazi Robo-Humans Attack - A strange ship that showed up in the NYC bay is secretly housing an army of robots!

Fast Friends - If we get a speedster I'd love to do a team-up ala GL/Flash.

Additional Notes - I essentially wanted a more street level GL type of guy. John doesn't fly or make constructs, or phase through walls... and there's no weakness to wood. I mean there is... you could catch him off guard with a baseball bat just like anybody LOL


Anybody feel like beating the hell out of Nazis?

Powers/Skills/Equipment - Tommy has the ability to communicate with and understand the speech of every type of animal. He also has borderline superhuman agility and catlike reflexes, as well as possessing peak human physiology in regards to strength and speed. He's trained in guerilla warfare, basic military strategy, archery and firearms. Tommy has a sharp intellect and is an absurdly quick learner. The equipment he usually possesses include a homemade wooden bow with a quiver of arrows, shorts and foot wraps made from fragments of his old uniform bound with leather straps, and animal pelts adorning his waist and torso.

Weaknesses - Tommy cannot control animals or force them to do his bidding against their will. And besides the fruits of his unusual childhood, training and the ability to communicate with animals, he is just an ordinary man with no superpowers.

Experience - Seven years of active service, but a lifetime of survival experience.

BRIEF Bio - Tommy does not know who his parents are, though given his Caucasian complexion, there's a good chance they were British soldiers. He grew up alone and abandoned in the mountains of Waziristan, on the border between British India and Afghanistan. He does not know why or how, but as soon as he was of age to speak, he found he could understand and communicate with the animals around him. He was able to barter his life, trade, tame the animals and even learn skills from them. By the time soldiers found him at twelve years old, the feral child was an accomplished survivalist and tracker and fearsome hunter.

The soldiers took him in, taught him to speak, read and write English, gave him a rudimentary education, and explained the current state of the wider world. He found a bow and arrows lying around once and took up archery as both a hobby and a tool to make hunting much easier and more efficient. He was then trained to be a soldier and instructed in the use of firearms and guerrilla warfare. But he was disillusioned with war itself. All of the enemies of the British Army throughout the 1930's were small rebel factions who just wanted to resist the tyranny of the Empire. Tommy eventually decided to desert and travel to the United States, a land advertised as neutral, free, and a place where any hardworking person could make it in life. He vowed that the next time he took up arms, if he ever took up arms, it would only be to oppose true evil.

Potential Storylines - Besides beginning his road to Herodom and joining a team, Tommy could also try learning to drive.
Additional Notes - Wanted to capture the more 'pulp' side of Golden Age comics. It was this or a detective.
