Appreciate @N3v3rM0r3 asking the question, as I realized that I hadn't taken max level for 1st and had just rolled 3d8, so I've adjusted my sheet to be less derp.

I have to say, I've enjoyed dusting off my 5e books (after I remembered where I'd put them). I was reading back through the section on Dwarves in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes this morning to give myself a refresher.

I didn't get a copy of Tome of Foes before they stopped making them. Previously I have purchased a few books though D&D beyond, prior to 2024. Since then I started purchasing the physical books from one of the LGSs near me as I want to know for sure I'll almost always have access to the books I've bought. I've got them on a bookshelf I made out in my office.

Yessssssss. I don't hate the subscriber model completely (okay, maybe I do), but I definitely want to know that I have access to content that I've paid for. I had thought that I'd put my books up on Ebay or something at one time to make space, but now I definitely am hoarding because I don't know that I'll always be able to pull down the electronic copy but I know that I can pull it off the shelf.

Nice, that'll bring Simon's passive perception to a total of 19 while he has the shield equipped. The added AC is nice as well since he'll probably be on the front line with Fyodor.

From the description in the OP, it seems that however the band came together, that the band has come together prior to our waking up in a strange bed and with matching tattoos (what did Grim put in that last batch of beer?)

Anyone given any thought to how our characters would interact?

Beyond making sure people have clean water to drink or healing potions, one thing I've tended to overlook or gloss over in the past is the Dwarven Combat Training part of the race. Which is making me wonder if Grim wouldn't seek to be someone's sparring partner to keep up his training.

That is a good question. I was wondering myself about how and if any of the characters knew each other beforehand.

Simon would be eyes/spear for hire typically.
