I cut my teeth on role-playing by playing Dungeons & Dragons in the desert of the real, posting embarrassingly bad short stories online across a number of forgettable forums, and during my escape from a troupe of Vampire: The Masquerade LARPers who kidnapped me that I met in Nevada. I'm a native English speaker located in the Pacific Time Zone (currently UTC-7). I'm an active player, who doesn't require hand-holding and isn't afraid to communicate.
