Jessikka told me not to change the training chasm, but it's being changed into training -cavern- at the very least; You'll understand when we enter but basically it's because it is, literally, a massive cave. And Jess gets the final say on these matters. Also, the reason the dorms and washrooms are like that is because, in the middle of the night, in a pitch-black underground base, the -last- thing you'd ever want to do ever is walk the wrong way and end up somewhere you shouldn't be.
Speaking from experience, it's 110% easier to walk in a straight line dead ahead and reach the toilets, than to paw aimlessly at a wall until you find the door handle which should've been right next to you.
