So, how do you propose Nova obtain an illegal AI that, if discovered, will get them all imprisoned, possibly for life? They aren't exactly common, since development's been outlawed for 300 friggin' years. NOBODY has AIs, especially not any government. It's expressly outlawed in Citadel space.

The ship is ex turian military. It was decommissioned and legally bought. The fact it's a stealth prototype is a reason they managed to get it for so cheap because that's not technology that civilians should have, and the guy who sold it kind of realized how fucked he would be if he was audited and this improperly classified frigate was discovered.

Dude, since when has government ever followed its own laws? In fiction or RL? It wouldn't be a stretch to say the turian military was working on AI technology clandestinely.
So the turian military was experimenting with making AIs and installed one in the ship. And it being an AI, it would naturally try and save itself when the Gov tries to decommission it along with the ship, so it stored portions of itself within the ship's software/hardware and 'played dead' until the ship was reactivated.

Not saying we should do this obviously, just that it could be a reason why the ship has an AI if it did, which it doesn't.

There's a general, giant fear of AI. There's still a chance of construction for 'em on places like Noveria, high-tech criminal groups/persons, or very buried/shadow parts of a government gearing up for something nasty, but the last one's most likely based on ambition or fear/paranoia that overrides the massive fear/paranoia of AI. A lot of people genuinely never want to see an AI again (including people in the government), and it's partly why the quarians get shit on so hard.

I could see it as possible. But I figure they'd keep a tighter lid on it if it happened.

As for the post, if no one minds/cares, I'll just leave it as is, then. I don't have a preference in any way, so I'll go back to making an edit if players prefer an edit.
The post could always be up for interpretation to whatever extent for everyone else.
Idea wasn't to change Cap'n's inherent character, though, just a typical Nova prank/something gone wrong with it.

Kygg would likely become a gang leader and end up ruling the prison with an iron, blood thirsty (literally), fist.

Mark would be the guy nobody messes with because he gets everyone cigarettes.

I want this. I know it's crazy and kind of stretches the imagination, but damn it, that's what Nova's about. I want a goddamned mission or something where everyone (including Captain) slowly starts to realize that he's not a normal VI, and that the Tyrus is suddenly a big fucking deal that we all need to stay silent about. It doesn't even need to affect all that much outside of like one mission, but it gives the Tyrus and Captain and hell, Nova itself, a lot of fun character. I don't think we should table this discussion.

Also, what's the plan moving forward? Got the collab up, so who wants to get started on our little pickup mission? Are our newbies ready to go? I honestly don't know what the next step of the plan is.

If Kosso is in prison with the rest of Nova, he's the one that handles the smuggling and distribution of cigarettes. He's got experience with that sort of thing. I could see him and Mark being good partners.

I'm waiting on gowi to give more filler to the pm I got, I can't do much with barb being found by gowis char. Worse come to worse I can work something out where barb is stumbled upon by a nova team.

Yes! I contributed to the plot again! (Pending) I'm on a roll!

Nova rolls up. Kills lots of Blood Pack. Finds Barb and Gowi's character as the only survivors and have to pick them up. They get caught up in the next mission. Although the whole Barb-trying-to-repo-the-Tyrus thing could be a problem. I guess he'll just have to be quiet about it and wait for an opportune moment. Scandalooous!

And now that I think about it, you're right. Mark has burnt too many bridges by this point due to all of his double (and triple) dealing in the mercenary community to have many contacts outside.

I'm going to take a break from RPG for a while until I find some kind of inspiration to write again. The past few months I've been feeling increasingly shackled to this computer, trying to keep things moving along, and I've watched my entire evenings evaporate for something I don't really enjoy that much. The enthusiasm I've had for writing's been whittled away by the increasing inactivity in both my games, and I'm getting burnt out for having to prod people to reply to stuff. I need to figure out why I do this, and rediscover the joy I had when I made this game.

I'm one man, and I have my limits.

He'll become the leader of a band of mercenaries composed of old Nova members and ex-conmen. He will name it "Supernova" and they will take over the galaxy.

That idea's not bad, I like the thought of developing it slowly and hinting, and then doing a quest where everyone slowly realizes it. And AI's in ME aren't an automatic no from me. But I'm still on the fence about making another friendly AI on another ME ship. This stuff can be easily abused, accidentally or intentionally, to where it gets unfitting for the setting, cheesy, and plot convenient. The sort of stuff that pulpier ME RPs who don't care about canon do all the time, and in the process lose the setting. E.g. "My special new race dude has lazr eye cybernetics, and super powerful biotics, AND his best friend is the most intelligent and self-aware AI in the galaxy. Its quest to understand itself: What is love?"
Everyone here is good about avoiding common pitfalls such as that, but I still got concerns.

I also don't want this to be another rerun of EDI, replaced with a male voice and the name "Cap'n." In part because I hate reruns, and in part because I think AIs like in that one side level of ME1 are more interesting than an AI "improving" by mimicking or understanding human behavior.

Not saying we can't do it. If we can keep it grounded/an idea that's cool and stands on its own, it's A-okay by me.

Cool, cool, that's fine. But if you're stuck, just do something, don't worry and stall on the writing (something I've been guilty of/assume most have experienced).

If worse comes to worst, we could always just do the starting point of Nova getting on. They shouldn't likely find the new teammates in the first post(s).
