X-wing in combat, Galactic Civil War

Instructions
- Post your character sheet here using the template provided below.
- Please do not post anything else here, all questions and comments should go to the OOC thread
.
- No Human Replica Droids.
- No Jedi/Former Jedi/Ex Padawans.
- Force Sensitives are acceptable, but I am capping it; I will notify when the cap is hit.
- Limited number of veteran characters -- most of the characters are newly minted out of Alliance starfighter pilot training. Unless you have a really good idea for a grizzled veteran (and they are being transferred into Intruder squadron for some reason), go with 'fresh out of training' or 'new to the Alliance.'
- Only one Imperial defector allowed.
- I reserve the right to add to the list of characters I am not accepting or are rate limiting.
- Characters can either be trained by Alliance Starfighter Command at a base like Anchorhead Base, off the Independence or otherwise learned to fly somewhere else. Most Alliance Vessels that carry starfighters carry simulators where pilots get trained. Many Alliance pilots cut their teeth on light freighters, swoops or airspeeders (like the T-16 Skyhopper).

Name: Flight Cadet Kerrick "Clang" Shan
Species: Human
Age: 19
Planet of Origin/Birth: H'ratth

Appearance:
5’9 and trim, with dark hair that tends to be thick and unruly if not combed back; he doesn’t bother and leaves it at medium length. His eyes are dark and his facial features are relatively nondescript, though his nose is narrow and somewhat pointed and his forehead is rather high; pleasing as humans go, but not particularly striking at first glance. Shan’s attire for some time has been the orange and white of a Rebel Alliance flightsuit or the khaki of a Rebel Alliance uniform, but out of uniform, he prefers a loose coat in addition to the typical attire of a spacer.

Skills/Abilities:
• Piloting; Starfighters
• Piloting; Swoop Bikes
• Maintenance/Tech knowledge; he has an intuitive grasp of and love for technical challenges. Working with his hands puts his brain into a place where he can focus, and it's often when things come to him
• Decent with a blaster.
• Strong language skills, including an understanding of binary (which astromech droids speak).

History:
Born on H’ratth, a mostly desert and forest planet, he lived a rather unremarkable existence as the member of a family that ran a local salvage yard for speeders of various types, which allowed him plenty of time to tinker with machinery, particularly high speed machinery like swoop bikes. His parents were involved in anti-Empire activity with a local resistance cell, one of many that existed in a myriad of systems prior to the establishment of the Rebel Alliance, and were killed while conducting an operation to try and get a Jedi to safety.

The authorities on H’ratth sensed an opportunity and used these crimes and threatened Kerrick and his grandmother in order to buy out the salvage yard business at a cheap rate, leaving Kerrick and his grandmother, Nomi, impoverished. During this time, he found himself hooking up with one of the local swoop gangs, the Nexu Riders, who were loosely involved in operations for one of the local crime lords, largely in theft and the fencing of stolen goods.

However, the Nexu Riders quickly got ahead of themselves, and Kerrick quickly decided to skip the system rather than have things go sour for his grandmother. Through a series of mishaps, he found himself on the planet of Sluis Van, one of the bigger shipyard planets in the entire galaxy , working first as a construction welder in zero-G and then as a rescue shuttle pilot, extracting wounded construction types from mishaps in the Yards. During this time, he managed to find himself hooking up with a group of people his age that were part of a nascent cell of Rebels working in the shipyards. When this small group of resistance members got into trouble, it was Shan who used his knowledge of the shipyards to acquire and escape with a hyperdrive capable shuttle, dodging patrols in a harrowing escape through an asteroid field where everyone was sure they were going to die, and yet miraculously, Kerrick managed to pull them through even though their pursuit were hitting the rocks and pulling back.

When they finally did hook up with the Alliance, Kerrick joined along with his comrades; it was that or explain himself to the ISB. He didn't want to explain himself to the ISB.

The Alliance’s intelligence people got him to come clean about the Nexu Riders and his record as a rescue shuttle pilot recommended him to flight training with the Alliance. Despite the occasional rookie mishap, such as when he landed a little too hard on a flight exercise and earned the callsign, “Clang," his instructors considered him more than sharp enough to drive the new starfighter just being phased in with the Alliance; the X-wing.

When he graduated flight training off the Independence, he was assigned directly to Intruder Squadron, flying X-wings off the Audacious.

Psychological Profile:
Kerrick isn't sure why he does some things a certain way, he just explains that they 'feel right.' The thing is, his feelings seem to be highly accurate. He is perfectly willing to swagger, crack wise and employ sarcasm as his mode of defense against the personalities of other people. To a degree, the Alliance is more tolerant of personality than the Empire, but military discipline has made him a little more tractable.

Equipment:
• Alliance issue flight suit and flight helmet. Regular clothes -- he prefers a sleeveless shirt, vest, cargo pants and spacer boots, along with a tech belt to hold his tools.
• Blastech holdout blaster.
• Various tech tools, such as laser welders and spanners.
• A working PDA.
• R2Y5, his astromech counterpart in the X-Wing, who has a strong bond with the pilot. Shan has replaced a number of internal components in the droid and upgraded the processing hardware.
• A holocron that is a family heirloom, though he's never managed to get it to work. It is in good repair, but he can't figure out what the activation sequence requires.

Relationships and Acquaintances:
- Shan is a 'new nugget' and so as a new arrival to the squadron, is still feeling things out. It turns out that he is hardly alone -- Alliance Personnel Command pulled a bunch of them into Intruder Squadron, in a frantic effort to fully man the Audacious.

Daughter of Akaan Reem, a MandalMotors executive and Mandalorian fighter pilot veteran. Tracy was trained by her parents as a warrior as per family tradition. Tracy was an only child and like her father, had a passion for flying and piloting star fighters. Handy with a blaster as well as a hydrospanner, Tracy was best known as a star pilot. She won several competitions in the Mandalorian Sector. Tracy joined the Mandalorian Protectors and spent four years training and flying covert missions preparing for combat against the Imperial presence in the Mandalorian Sector. Her father was killed secretly by agents of the Empire when he spoke out against the Empire publicly and was found guilty of supporting the Alliance to Restore the Republic. When Tracy found out the news she left the Mandalorian Protectors and her home to join the war effort. It wasn't hard to find the Alliance, and she offered her skills as a pilot and was quickly accepted into the Alliance fighter pilot training program. Tracy was a great student, graduated with honors from the program, and assigned directly to Intruder Squadron as a rookie. She spends most of her free time working out, shooting in the holo-range, and tinkering with her ship. Though she was an adept pilot, she had yet to see combat in space. She has taken a vow to avenge her father's death and witness the Empire's collapse.

Psychological Profile:
Country-side girl and tomboy Tracy can be tough as nails. She has a sweet heart and passion for life and people. Tracy was the daughter that always brought home a new pet, or was in trouble for beating up kids who made fun of her. She's quiet and can be socially awkward. Always ready to talk about something she is interested in, Tracy isn't always introverted and lights up when talking about what's on her mind or new exciting places to see. She is always up for a challenge. She's had her heart broken once or twice and has broken a fair share herself, she remains happily single though she longs for a good relationship. Her focus on the war effort drives her. Reem is a dedicated professional and hard worker. Tracy is loyal to her friends, family, and tradition.

Equipment:
• Alliance issue flight suit and flight helmet. Bantha Leather jacket, tank top, pants, combat boots
• dual WESTAR-35 blaster pistols
• Various tools
• Vibro-knife kept in boot
• R2L2, astromech counterpart in the X-Wing, whom Tracy is still figuring out how to understand, slowly but surely. Tracy and El-two have a comical relationship but professional when their is a job to do.
• Mandalorian helmet with full set of light battle armor, gauntlets, crushgaunts, belt, bodysuit (though she hardly wears it, she keeps it stored as a memento to her culture, and ready to use if needed)

Relationships and Acquaintances:
- Developing new relationships is challenging with Tracy who speaks her mind. Of course she will be bound to make friends with those she is serving.

Notable Beings on the Audacious
- Commodore Bana Lesob - The Captain of the Audacious and commander of the 6th Roving Line (and thus a Commodore), a Duros Male. Lesob is a retired Republic Navy officer that was forced out when Palpatine became emperor and removed non-human members of the Republic military from the service. and made his living running security for merchant convoys in the Outer Rim during the dark times. He was given command of the Audacious because of his extensive experience in commanding starfighters as well as capital ships -- in fact, during the Clone wars, he captained a Venator-class Star Destroyer, the same class the Audacious is a part of.

- Commander Maxal Berik, callsign "Meathook." - CO of Intruder Squadron, Human Male. A former squadron leader in the Royal Naboo Space Fighter Corps. Understanding that the Alliance is not as formalized or disciplined as the Naboo system defense forces (a peacetime formation until crushed by the 501st Legion), as opposed to a number of ex-Imperial officers occupying command roles in the Alliance Starfighter Command, he nonetheless is intent on training his pilots to a sharp edge. They are given latitude in how they deal with their issues off-duty and there are no haircut regulations, but pilots are expected to be professional as pertains to their actual duties. His callsign is "Meathook" but he refuses to discuss it with the pilots in his squadron.

- Captain Cham'tala, callsign "Notip" - XO of Intruder Squadron, Twi'lek Female. An escaped slave turned smuggler, she joined the Alliance early when her resistance cell in the Outer Rim agreed to work under the aegis of the Alliance; the fruit of the diplomatic labors of the likes of Mon Mothma and Leia Organa. She made the transition from light freighters to starfighters, but has a temper and little patience for screwups. As a result, she is the squadron's disciplinarian. It's also notable that while Meathook has more experience and accumulated wisdom in the cockpit, Notip is definitely the better natural pilot. She was assigned to this squadron alongside Meathook as their instructor in advanced fighter combat tactics -- the Alliance prefers to activate their squadrons under the command of the pilots that trained the rookies.

- Commander Dua Dhuj - Chief Engineer of the Audacious, Sullustan Male. Dua Dhuj was one of SoroSuub Corporation's most innovative engineers and researchers until he decided that he could no longer bear collaborating with the Empire and defected to the Alliance along with most of his R&D department, who form the backbone of the Audacious' oversize complement of technicians. It is rumored that the he specifically requested assignment to a starship so that he could run his own small workshop without much in the way of oversight, which has become something of a testbed for a dizzying array of technologies that are field tested aboard the Audacious and its attendant starships, which includes the Intruder Squadron. Dua Dhuj is easily the most wanted being on the Audacious -- the price on his head is enough to make a Hutt blush, except that the Empire wants him alive, no exceptions, no disintegrations.

Name: Yorrik "Wolf" Donnell
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Species: Shistavanen
Planet of Birth: Uvena Prime

Physical Description:

6'1, black fur.

Skillset:
Talents one has either naturally or through education or training of some sort.
- Enhanced sense of smell.
- Proficient in piloting most kinds of Imperial vehicles.
- Accurate marksman.

History: There is no secret as to how Wolf got to be so good a pilot, Born on the homeworld, his father was a Pod-Race pilot, he trained with his father doing some laps, when he was 12, he won the local "Under 15's" Pod Racing championship. He was drafted into the Academy as soon as he reached maturity, due to the Emperor becoming rather interested in adding Aliens to their ranks (Due to the genius that was Thrawn) The Emperor placed special interest in the Shistavanen, due to their canine levels of senses. He passed through the academy with flying colours, but, instead of going on to become a Stormtrooper, applied to join the Fighter Corps.

Passing through Pilot training, he was assigned as a rookie to Obsidian Squad, where their leader (An Ace pilot called The Red Baron) took a shine to the young Alien. Baron drove him hard, spending every waking hour in the simulators. After their first mission to quell an uprising at Raltir, he proved himself by shooting down 4 enemy fighters. Soon, he put in for a transfer to get his hand on the, then new, TIE Interceptor. However, his request was denied when Baron specially asked that the kid stay with him and he stayed in Obsidian Squad. During his time in the squad, he racked up an impressive record of enemy kills... Well, impressive for a rookiee, a grand total of 9 kills in 3 missions. He was never one to get caught up in politics, but even he knew the Empire had gone too far when they were sent on an escort mission. A transport that they had been told was filled with weapons for a rebellion. The transport informed them that they were transporting only civilians and several dignitaries from Mon Cala. Deciding that they had been deceived, several of the squad tried to break off and join the rebellion. After a long argument between several of his wingmen, one of his men loyal to the empire blew one of the traitors out of the sky. Wolf's mentore decided that enough was enough and a firefight broke out. Red Baron told them that he would hold them off whilst Wolf and whoever else wanted to join them could escaped with the Rebel transport. Wolf was one of only 3 that escorted the transport to the next rebel base. Next day, they got a confirmation that Red Baron's fighter had been shot down in the fight.

Wolf and the rest of his squad were tried for their crimes against the rebellion. But, due to his actions in protecting a number of Rebel dignitaries, they were pardoned. Wolf joined the Alliance as one of their Headhunter Pilots, however, he is rather pleased that they have now been upgraded to the X-Wings. Although, his current wish is to get behind the controls of the rumoured B-Wings that are in development.

Recently, whilst running a standard protection run to Raxus Prime, they got into a dogfight and his astromech, R4-P1 had its CPU fried by a stray bolt. Whilst on the planet, he hauled an ancient Astromech out of the piles of garbage and asked the techs to have a look at it. They came back to him, saying that they couldn't fix them up, so now, he uses an R4 Astromech that uses the CPU of the ancient T3 model. It makes an annoyed blarping sound when called R4. It prefers T3... The problem is that, after so long by itself, it has become self aware, like most other droids. Wiping its memory is out of the question as it keeps shorting out any computer that tries doing so.

Psychological Profile: Wolf is a very humble, greenhorn pilot. He has a lot of respect for his mentor, even if his mentor was a mass murderer... Nonetheless, he has dedicated himself to the squad and to the destruction of the Empire.

Equipment:
- Alliance issue flight suit and flight helmet.
- T3-J2, astromech counterpart in the X-Wing. (It is actually an R4 unit, but had its CPU replaced with that of an ancient T3.)
- DH-17 blaster pistol
- Commlink to T3.

Name: Jaydron Wyld, goes by JD or JW a lot.
Callsign:
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Planet of Birth: Bandomeer

Physical Description:
1.8 meters tall, broad shoulders, narrow at the hips. Built like a military recruiting poster with chiseled features. He’s a little big for the cockpit of an X-wing but he still fits decently. He has brown hair with blue eyes, and a serious expression most of the time.

Skillset:
-Gearhead - able to work on technology, machinery, and electronics with decent to good success, even in poor operating circumstances
-Brawler - Growing up in the harsh environment of Bandomeer’s mines has left him scrappy, tough, and strong. Fights happened a lot, as did fights among racers or other gangs. This left him with decent skill in hand to hand.
-Crackshot - learning how to hit a moving target from a bucking swoop bike, flying over 250 kph while others may be trying to shoot you gives you excellent hand-eye coordination and shooting skills
-Precision Stunts - Racing and having to perform crazy stunts has given Jay the chops to handle performance and even some non-performance vehicles with skill, and to do some things they might not have been designed for.
-Nerves of Steel - playing games like chicken, and having to race under crazy conditions has given Jay some tough nerve, and isn’t likely to blink easily

History:
Jaydron’s parents were rockhaulers moving all around. When it was heard that a large deposit of ionite was found and mines were set up, they decided to make a buck hauling it in shielded containers, while it did not have widespread use, it’s value to certain parties made it a lucrative item to transport. When the Empire came calling for them to fulfill the contracts with Bandomeer in 19 BBY, his parents had attempted to make a quick escape. A quartet of TIE fighters turned back their freighter and forced the ship to land. Land is such a loose term. A couple dual bursts at the last moment knocked out the repulsors and the stabilizers went bonkers. The ship sideslipped and crashed on the landing pad. Jay’s parents left the ship and made their way home to regroup while salvage teams did what they could. Jay was little more than four or five years old, and he doesn’t remember much during that time period.

Ship busted… all their credits and savings were spent salvaging what they could, paying off fines, and finding a place to live. Jay’s father took to working the mines, which was hard labor, but it could certainly pay decently. Mother was a homemaker and took care of the boy and her husband, while doing what she could to keep them going. Occasionally they were able to scrounge parts or tools and rig repairs to their ship, but the process was slow going. When Jaydron was 10, they’d been stuck there for over half his life when there was a small rebellion on the planet. A local group of dissidents had rigged up charges from blasting equpment in the mine, while a few had done a crude refinement to the ionite creating a different device that could disrupt technological signaling systems and gear. They would kick off the ionite devices to disable the local military and police’s gear and then detonate an explosive using fuses. Jay still doesn’t know if his father was directly involved or not. Neither parents were happy about the Empire being there and crushing the local populace under their bootheels. It came down to it that his father had been gunned down in one of the plazas by a team of stormtroopers using mechanical slugthrower rifles. They were a good solution when energy based weapons were less than functional around the ionite in the area. There were several people that were killed in the incident, which the locals dubbed a massacre. By all accounts a group of the gurellas or insurgents had been tracked there and when they were in the open, the Stormies opened fire on them.

Life got harder for Jay and his mother. She took to doing whatever work she could find, and he too looked for ways to make ends meet. Within a few years, he was beginning to work in the mines. Most gear had to be specially shielded, or barring that, the work had to be done by hand with hand tools. This hard labor built Jay into a strong, powerfully built young man, but gave him no more muscle than he could maintain. Over the years he’d helped his mom work on the ship, as well as his dad. This gave him a pretty workable knowledge base for things technological and mechanical. When he entered his late teens he began working on the transport hovertrams that were shielded, keeping them running. It paid more but was less labor intensive. Proving to be good with the trams, the mine managers began letting him work on their smaller transport vehicles.

It was also during this time that he had acquired a swoop bike and had taken to riding in the hills and craggy mountains. His mother at first feared he might hurt himself, but he seemed to enjoy it, and it came naturally to him. He had a great feel for flying and it was something that gave him an escape from the hardships they endured. Soon he met likeminded young people and was riding with them in a group. Before long, they had formed into a swoop gang without even really realizing it. Most of them just loved to ride. But an offshoot of that was swoop racing. At first it was just for pride, dares, and contests of simple skill. Later it turned into prize-money races and bets. The races got longer, faster, more dangerous, but the money was better too.

When he wasn’t working in the mines or repairing equipment, he began to race. Work, eat, race, sleep, not necissarily in that order. With the danger of the races increasing, so too was cheating. More than once one of the racers had taken pot shots at others with concealed or even openly carried blasters. Rarely was it set to stun… and bailing off of a swoop running several hundred kilometers per hour was still almost guaranteed to be fatal. Jay began carrying a blaster too, and proved to be a decent shot with it, while maneuvering and jockeying for position on the back of his bike. Most of the time his shots were meant to disable the oppositions bikes.

During this timeframe he also began to learn to fly other landspeeders and airspeeders, like the T-16 as an example. There were others, and he found the controls were a little different, but the skills were similar. Soon he was piloting local or regional transports for the mining company and the money was coming in quite steadily. The ship was also nearing completion, and had even been able to undergo some atmospheric trials. During this time period he began to work his way into flight simulators, learning to fly ships besides the one his mother owned and found he enjoyed it. He spent a lot of time in combat flight simulators, and found a challenge in it, but at the same time it was a great way to pass the time. Finally, the day came when the freighter was fully fixed. It wasn’t good as new, and some of it was jury-rigged and patched together. She might not have looked like much, but she had what she needed… she had it where it counted.
It was then that he and his mother could get away from Bandomeer. They blasted off after selling the rights off to their abode, and what things they didn’t need to take. Jay gave his swoop to a friend of his, with a promise that he’d return it, offworld… eventually.

After floating from place to place for months, they finally began tracking down the Alliance, and successfully made contact. They began smuggling and trafficing in supplies, making upgrades to the ship compared to what they had done with it in the first place. When the call went out for more pilots, Jaydron answered the silent call. His mother didn’t like it a lot, as she hadn’t his racing career, but he felt he had to do something. Jay had been an angry young man earlier on but in his more recent history he’d been one to mellow out. So he made his way to the Independence and joined the training unit there. He passed basic flight and intermediate flight testing. From there it was being settled in to learn to fly with others as a regimented unit, formations, organized combat maneuvers. In some ways it was like being back with his gang, and it also reminded him of some things from his simulator experiences. Flying with a wingman was a different difficulty but one he picked up quickly, with the simple idea of never go anywhere alone, watch out for the man next to you, stick with your leader. Eventually he graduated from combat flight as a Flight Officer. There was debate between his instructors as to whether to promote him to 2nd Lieutenant, but it was decided that he needed seasoning. He certainly qualified for a potential elite pilot, and so he was shipped off to Intruder Squadron.

Psychological Profile:
An idea of how the character thinks and so forth; should be linked to the history.
Jay still has questions about his father’s death. Holo recordings from the massacre do not prove to be conclusive in answering those questions. He worries about his mother as she has been the only stable factor in his life. He believes she’s proud of him, and she is. Jay wants to keep making her proud, keep her safe, and… if his father -was- killed by the Empire, he wants to break his foot off in them, so to speak. While his explosive anger has seemed to settle som in the last few years, he has become a tool of violence under the Alliance military training, precise, focused, but also able to dish out lots of punishment. His toughness has allowed him to push himself to the limit. He likes to take chances, and is often exhilarated by combat. He both resents his past on Bandomeer and welcomes it. He doesn’t like the difficulty, but the process has forged him into the young man he is these days.

Generally he can be quiet and reserved, or boisterous. Tends to think of others as a bit soft and weak, unless they prove otherwise.. also tends to favor brains over brawn. Most conflicts he has gotten into have been resolved through the use of his head, even if he might have had to throw a few punches to do the job. Knowing when and where, and why was often as important as just how much force he could put into his fist, and how fast he could do it.

Equipment:-
-Selective fire modified DH-17 (semi auto, burst, repeating), 2 extra magazines outside the blaster
-Vibro-knife x2
-vibro-’knucks’ - vibro-style knuckle dusters
-vacuum grade alliance flight suit (dark green)
-datapad w/ datachips
-some personal effects
