I would REALLY like to have a 1x1 searching thread specifically attached to the advanced boards. I do understand the way that things are set up now. If one was added for advanced, it would probably have to be added for Free and Casual, as well. So it would look like "Group interest checks" and "1x1 interest checks" beneath each, instead of just "interest checks". I think the boards would stay pretty full, and it would make searching for a partner so much easier, with less redundancies.
As it is, I personally feel like 1x1 RP gets the shaft; shunted off to one side like that. It's not cool to be marginalized; we're still active members of the community. (I am certain that was not the intent of the current set up, just sharing how one non-group RPer happens to feel about it.)

Thanks very much for listening! :)

I would personally like to second this. It's a pain in the butt trying to find more advanced partners.

Eh, sounds like a bad idea to me. 1x1 is very different from group RP, just like the Arena is, so it's put in its own section to keep different things separate (because segregation on forums is actually a good thing for organization sake). Also, the whole of the 1x1 second on the old RPG was less active than Free or Casual, with ~1.3 million posts posts across all 1x1 boards where Free had ~2.2 million and Casual had ~2.6 million (numbers from the last archive.org snapshot of the old RPG front page).

Adding new interest check sections just for 1x1 would be unnecessary clutter that screws with the current intuitive setup (notice how there is no longer a general interest check forum, and how free int check is under free RP, casual under casual, 1x1 under 1x1, very intuitive organization), and Mahz has stated numerous times that he wants to implement a tagging system to make searching for things much easier. That'll surely come with tags for the RP level, so you'll be able to easily search for Advanced tagged threads in the 1x1 interest check section.

For now you can tag your threads with something like [Advanced] in front, maybe advocate to your fellow 1x1 folks that they should do the same to make things easier. Even that shouldn't be very necessary right now, seeing as there's few enough 1x1 Interest Checks that you should be able to scan through them all rather quickly.

Nightlock - Thanks! I was admiring your siggy earlier, btw. ^^

Jorick - Are you a 1x1 RPer, I wonder? I have not at all found it easy to scan through, and we already do tag our threads.

I'm not, but I went and looked through the place before posting the above to see how bad it was. Took me less than half an hour to give each thread a look and gauge what level they were, if it wasn't just blatantly stated. That's not a great deal of time, especially considering the fact that after you check everything that already exists in the interest checks you'd only really care to look at new threads that pop up, which probably won't be a ton to look through either.

Certainly. Although the way it is now isn't very relevant, as it will be changing quite soon (more users and all that). The 1x1 interest thread becomes extremely extensive. There's a bit more to it than just looking at each thread, as well. I personally like to see samples, or look up their threads (of course that won't work for awhile as that's all been wiped).

I feel that what I'm suggesting is even more segregating, though I guess it depends on how you look at it.

I feel confusion as to whether or not I should post in advanced interest checks, or 1x1 interest checks. Perhaps 1x1, but for me the advanced part is almost more important, even though I'm looking for a 1x1. In the old towers site, I accidentally posted in advanced instead of 1x1, because I was confused. I ended up finding an excellent writer in there (because it was the advanced thread) and we are doing a 1x1, but I'm not sure that they venture often into the 1x1 thread (perhaps because with the current setup, it is difficult to find advanced writers there?).

Furthermore, a lot of people who are advanced don't know it, and a lot of people who claim to be, aren't. Part of that is just inevitable, of course, but I think that my suggestion would ease some of this confusion. For example, someone humble might not click on a thread link that says [advanced] in front of it. But if they wandered into the advanced board after the casual board and saw that this writing style better suited them, they would realize they fit there. (This same person might also, more probably, not list themselves as advanced.) By segregating the levels of interest checks, I believe there would be less qualms about identifying with your correct writing style. You could also have a thread /for/ each style in each forum, if you are able to do all three. (Whereas I would not click on a thread titled: free - advanced.) Does that make sense at all?

You can disagree of course, but I can tell you as a 1x1 RPer, it is kind of a bummer that basically only one forum on this site applies to me. That is of course the way that most RP sites are. An example of a site that has the type of setup I am suggesting is Creative Freedom RPG. That particular setup is the only thing from that site that I am suggesting we consider, and I think we can do it better than they.

Anyway, I am curious to know if Mahz would consider this, if enough 1x1 RPers felt this way.

I'd like a more advanced search so I can find RPrs breakin' the rules easier.

Now RPG is a family friendly place, and it's still in the rules that yer not supposed to use it for sexual relations of any kind, whether they be with a man, a woman, a timelord, or a werewolf. Don' really matter none, yuh jus need to remember that romace of the marital kind is strictly forbidden here.

And if yuh are usin' these here forums for that, I'm pretty sure we'll be talkin' real soon.

I'm not going to respond to your first few paragraphs because it's all opinion stuff that I don't really care to get into at the moment.

Anyway, you realize that even if there were a bunch of different interest checks there would still be that problem of only one section of the site applying to you, right? 1x1 would still all be in the 1x1 section, no matter how many different interest check sub-forums there are. You'd also kind of be lessening your potential roleplaying pool by having multiple interest check sub-forums for 1x1, because just as with the group RP sections there would be tons of people who are capable of going Advanced but choose not to because of any of a variety of reasons. Check out how for the group RP interest check boards the Casual section has over 3 times the number of interest check threads that the Advanced section does; that'd almost certainly be the case with splitting up 1x1 interest checks too. Wanting a better way to differentiate between levels in the 1x1 interest checks is cool and all, but making more sub-forums may not be the best way to do it and mixing them up with the group stuff is absolutely not a good way to do it.

Actually, I just had an idea. Having level-based 1x1 interest check sub-forums would be best done by making the 1x1 section have 3 different sub-forums for interest checks rather than tacking them under the various group RP interest checks. That'd keep everything sleek and intuitive, and it would make it easy to keep the nice tab system in place that lets you swap between the Interest Check and Roleplay sub-forums of a certain section without going back to the home page; 1x1 would just have 3 different Interest Check tabs shown rather than the one. I honestly don't care one way or the other about the 1x1 interest check area being split up or staying merged, I'm just against them being muddled with the group stuff, and doing it this way would keep 1x1 and group stuff in their own areas where they belong. What do you think about doing it this way instead of how you proposed?

I'm pretty sure that the reason that 1x1 is it's own sub-forum is because on the old site they were getting lost in the mix of all the groups. Now I know that this forum is set up differently than the old one in terms of how sub-forums work. But I honestly think I'm still going to like having it done this way. I'm a 1x1 Rper AND a small group Rper, though I prefer the former. I personally write on average like High Casual, but I can easily do fully Advanced as well (or fully Casual, whatever works with the story or my partner). I don't like the idea of me having to go to two different forums to find the kind of people I want to write with.

I liked the old tag system on the old site and honestly thought it was working pretty well. But I mostly click on Interest Check threads by their subject than by their level (though I do avoid Free or Free/Casual). A lot of Rpers don't know where they're at, no matter if they're 1x1 or Group players. I found that I was more Advanced than Casual by clicking on a thread that had an interesting idea in the subject and then said that it was more Advanced than I was doing. But I gave it a go and hey, guess what, I am an Advanced writer. I probably wouldn't have looked at it at the time if it had been labelled Advanced right up front. And I would have missed it totally if it was in a purely Advanced forum.

So I think that if you separate them based on level, that you could miss out on writers who are Advanced who don't know it by limiting them seeing things. Tags are the best system to use by just looking at titles. Though really, what you should do in the OP of any interest check is put what you're looking for, explicitly. Like how much you write, how much you look for in a partner's writing, ask for a sample (especially since you can't go back and look through their old threads atm). Separation isn't really needed in my opinion.

I like the idea of sub-forums, actually. It would keep it organized.

I quite like that idea, very much! I don't like it as much as my idea (it still separates the skill levels between group and 1x1 further, which I don't like) but it still at least separates skill levels from each other within the 1x1 section. That would at least be more helpful than the way it is now.

Thank you!
