Sashia was watching them and rooting for the both as her Ice Dino was very interested in what she was watching.

Shiranui was Coordinator #8. "Numeru, I choose you!" He opened the ball with the bubble seal and a myriad of bubbles flew out before coalescing into his Goodra. "Set the scene with Rain Dance!" Numeru performed a swaying dance and rain started falling on the stage. "Fire a Bolt-Beam combo into the clouds!" Numeru's horns started arcing with electricity while she charged up an Ice Beam from her mouth. Both attacks were launched straight up and they formed a double helix until they mixed into the clouds and turned it into a storm that rained sleet. "Finish it with a Draco Meteor!" Numeru launched an orb of draconic energy into the storm and when the orb reached its apex the stormy weather was sucked into it before it exploded into eight meteorites charged with ice and electrical energy. The meteorites rained down on the stage and both Shiranui and Numeru took a bow.

May was #11. She made a display using Warturtle. It focused on Rapid Spin, Bubble, and Ice Beam.

Shiranui's quarter final opponent sent out a Shuckle. "Hoshi, I choose you!" Shiranui responded by opening a star-labelled Poké Ball. Stars burst out of the ball and two of them joined together to form a ten-pointed star that metamorphosed into a Starmie.
"Shuckle, Double Team!"
"Hoshi, Confuse Ray!" Hoshi's core rapidly blinked through the seven colours of the rainbow as the Starmie let off a bright flash that left Shuckle confused. Shuckle hurt itself in its confusion and that caused its trainer's points to take another hit.
"Shuckle, Sandstorm!"
"Hoshi, Reflect Type!" The Starmie changed its type to match Shuckle's, changing the colour of its limbs to ecru and sticking with yellow for the area around its core. Shuckle was able to summon a sandstorm and thanks to Hoshi's type change, neither battler took any damage from the weather.
"Shuckle, Earthquake!"
"Hoshi, you may fire when ready." Hoshi's core glowed a bright lime green as laser beams issued forth from all ten of its limbs, converging into a focal point in front of its crystal core. A powerful beam was fired from the focal point and nailed Shuckle squarely for a hit. Shuckle withdrew into its shell and slammed itself onto the stage, causing an earthquake that shook Hoshi for a decent amount of damage.
"Shuckle, Gyro Ball!"
"Hoshi, Rollout!" Shuckle snapped out of its confusion and both battlers started spinning towards each other and at impact, the two received the same amount of damage.
"Shuckle, Shell Smash!" Hoshi's spin speed was at a steady climb as the Starmie charged in for another hit. Shuckle made cracks in its shell, but its defence stats went up whilst its Speed and Attack stats took a sharp drop due to its Contrary ability "Power Split!" Hoshi zeroed in for a third hit and nailed Shuckle right in its shell crack for a critical hit. The damage was just enough to knock Shuckle out and Shiranui advanced to the semis.

May's turn came up. She used Glaceon and defeated the opposing Weepingbel. Liam's opponet used a Smeargle. It was defeated by Sceptile

It didn't take long for Shiranui to win his semi-final battle. Sandslash tried to Dig its way out of harm's way, but Hoshi used Hydro Pump down the hole and a geyser erupted not that far away, launching Sandslash into the air. Sandslash was knocked out when it landed.

Liam went up against May.
"Glaceon, take the stage!"
"Sceptile, Showtime!"
Both Pokémon appeared, the latter in a flurry of stars. The battle between the two went right down to the wire Sceptile fired a Solarbeam while Glaceon used Ice Beam. The attacks missed one another. Sceptile was frozen, and Liam was missing more points, meaning May advanced to the finals.

Shiranui was surprised to see Liam lose to May as he was used to facing his travelling companion in the final. "His Sceptile did have a type disadvantage and Ice-types have become common in the Contest circuit," he mused as he rethought his plan of attack.

The grand final match was on. "Glaceon, take the stage!"
"Hoshi, it's ninja time!" Similar to May's previous battle, both Pokémon appeared with Hoshi formed from a myriad of stars. As the minutes ticked by both coordinators were evenly matched in points and the stage was covered in ice from Glaceon's moves. "Hoshi, time for your Shuriken Combo!" Mixing Rollout with Gyro Ball, Hoshi started spinning at a speed similar to a car engine at idle and struck Glaceon for a decent amount of damage. Glaceon fired a Signal Beam and couldn't land a hit, but it still resulted in a loss of points for Shiranui as the bright light glistened off the ice and Glaceon's coat. Hoshi returned at a faster spin speed and nailed Glaceon for enough damage to knock it out. Shiranui had won the ribbon, bringing his ribbon tally to three.

Liam congradulated Shiranui on the win. He commented that there was going to be another contest in Moss Town, which was on an island between Seafoam and Cinnabar.

"Now we definitely have a ferry to catch," replied Shiranui.

"Well, once Sashia and Mike catch up, we can get going." Liam said.

Sashia waved to the boys once she saw them, her ice dino ran next to her before she smiled Shiranui and said "Congratlations on your victory there, two more ribbons and I will be seeing you in the Grand festival". Mike nodded to them both as he said "Hello again Liam and Shiranui, it's been a while since we last travelled together. When we dock, I'm heading for the Pokemon league to register".

"You already have your eight badges?" Liam inquired. "I was going to give you a word of advice about the gym on Cinnabar."

Mike nodded and showed them his Kanto badge case with 8 badges in it. "Sasha told me you guys have had a lot of adventures while I've been gone so I'm interested to learn about them. I also heard about what happen with Smaug and the poucher. Those guys really piss me off, my Dragonite and Blastose also had voucher problems like Smaug when they were younger"

Liam told Mike about how Smaug's mom was taken to a "safe place" to rest up, and that it would be virtually impossible for another poacher to get to her again. Liam also mentioned how he was able to sense where Jiriya was in the battle with the previous Frontier Brain, although he wasn't profiecent at it and snagged the victory because of the maneuver. Liam was looking at the Contest guidbook. "There were only four more contests that weren't out of our way before the festival." Liam told them. "After Moss Island's, Cinnabar has one. From there, we can catch a ferry to Tohjo Falls for a contest and Fronteir Facility, after that the next one along our path is also the final one in Virdian City." Liam said He than read from the book the Grand Festival was being held at the same stadium as the Leauge Tournament, but a month in advance and noted hat they have to find somewhere in there to fit the final Fronteir Facility.

"That of course depends on where the Battle Pyramid is located," added Shiranui, "My Porygon couldn't get a location for it."

"Well, if Spenser didn't tell us, than the final one will. We can always teleport there with help from Sherlock, or Titania." Liam said.

"Indeed we can," replied Shiranui, "For now, we have two contests to focus on before we get to the Battle Tower."

Soon after, the boat docked in Moss Town. Liam went and healed his Pokémon and registered for the contest, which was going to be the following day. Liam than hiked to the part of the island where no people lived. Liam practiced trying to stay aware of where Jiriya was by the same manner is pulled against Spenser.

Shiranui was thinking about what he'd do for the contest while his Pokémon healed.
