She sighs as she walks to the river and then walks in she stands there with her eyes closed.

Auriole shrugs. “Sure. But in my defense, I was looking out for you. I don’t know about humans, but beastpeople often block everything out when they’re upset and I didn’t want something to happen. But how is this going to work?”

Elias nods" I mean I block many things out when I'm upset and I'll teach you the alphabet first then let you see my journal portion of the book to help you read " he tells Auriole

Auriole nods. “Now?” She glances around. Having calmed down, the fur had begun to recede, now only a few patches are present.

Elias shrugs" if you want to don't have anything better to do in the middle of the night "

“Me neither. Don’t really feel like sleeping so okay we’re doing this,” Auriole smiles tentatively and approaches him, now fully in her human form.

Elias waves her over" cmon" he says then walks to his bedroll grabs the book sits down and flips to the journal part" I keep the alphabet in here in case I forget " he says

Auriole walks over and sits by him, sweeping her tattered skirt under her. She smiles softly as she carefully fingers the writing.

Elias points to the alphabet " this is A " he says and begins to teach auriole the letters

Auriole’s brow creases in concentration and she periodically nods. She watches his movements, intent on not missing a single point.

After teaching her the alphabet he looks at her " can you say the alphabet for me? "

Auriole nods with a small frown. “I think so.” She closes her eyes and recites the alphabet backwards and then forwards, both correct. She opens her eyes, a glint of hope in them as she waits for affirmation or correction.

Elias whistles impressed " pretty good " he said then flipped to a page of his journal " read this aloud" he tells Auriole

Auriole smiles then reads the page with a little difficulty, her face scrunched in concentration.

Elias is surprised " wow for someone who's never read nor write you picked up on it pretty well" he tells Auriole

Auriole smirks a little. “Well I’m not stupid. Besides we were taught many things in the clan, it’s just that not very many humans take well to a beastperson so we’re not taught to interact with or to understand them. The elders said it was because they were afraid that we would become as monstrous and reckless as the human race, oblivious to the true majesty of each other and the world around us.”

Elias snorts" the true majesty is just being able to live " he says and then sighs" do you think you need anymore help or is one lesson good enough? "

Auriole smiles mischievously. “That’s what I said.” Then she sighs. “I’d like some more lessons, but maybe later.” She stands and stretches.
