“I can try,”
Isla

"I... can't get us out of here otherwise," Rosalyn replied to Isla.

"Yet you had no problem bringing us here..." Hagan trailed off as he crossed his arms... he didn't know what was going on, but he was going to find out. He wasn't about all of this against his will bullshit but he also didn't know what she was capable of. Especially if she made this place. For now, he kept his mouth shut.

“But we’re all gonna be holding hands or have some kinda chain contact cause I ain’t gonna be able to guarantee I bring everyone along with it. I know some of you ain’t happy with each other but it’s worth it for the shot of getting out, ay?”
Isla

"... Anyone tell you you talk too much?" Zoey said with a toothy grin... you know, despite it all. As long they were getting out of here, Zoey couldn't care less about what people like Stacey thought right now. This was the closest bet they had to get the fuck outta this place. She grabbed onto Hagan's hand and Hagan grabbed onto Finn's hand. When she held onto Hagan's hand, there was a shakiness in it. Her heart was beating so hard it was about to explode. She sighed, to steady herself, as she looked up at Isla.

"Isla," Zoey started and her voice broke for just a second, "Do it."

And that she did... she teleported them all away.

Odessa didn't want to say it but hope for finding the others was slim to none. She started to gain a grasp - as bare as it was - of how this place functioned. It changed depending on who was there, but it could be a place that infinitely created and changed as it's explored. For all they know, Lilith, Mao, and the others were lost somewhere in here. Trapped in a place with all manners of horrors and freaks...

... Or they're dead. That was always a possibility.

Either way, Odessa kept her third eye open as she walked through the place in case she could sense them. Or anything else that could be lurking here. Paradise couldn't be home to just one murderous Apparition. It could be several... just waiting to attack. She hoped that, at the very least, she could sense them before they struck. Either way, Odessa's little stroll through Paradise was quiet as she was certain that she was going nowhere fast. She didn't want to bring down Penny. She was strong. She was going to crack any second now.

And that third sense suddenly went wild as she sensed a group of people not too far away from her. Odessa immediately turned herself towards it expecting the worst and saw the... the group. Plus some red-haired girl. She wiped a bead of sweat off her head in relief.

"Penny, you're okay!" Zoey said with a warming smile, "I would hug you, but..."

"... I'm finally free," Rosalyn said as she walked off to the side and looked... the entire landscape of Paradise changed in the blink of an eye. From the beautiful Farmer Hill at its prime to... Paradise. The large, bright skied, sunny city that looked gorgeous. Just as beautiful as she remembered it.

"... And who's your friend?" Odessa asked as she walked up slowly to the girl. "Are you lost here, too?"

"I'm... Rosalyn, I created this place," She said, fighting tears, "I'm so sorry that any of this happened."

"Oh..." Odessa said as she had a near bottomless supply of questions, but she read the room very well. "You brought us here, right?"

"Yes,"

"I would love to know what happened here, even why," Odessa started, "But, you brought us here, can you let us leave?"

"... Why would you even want to leave?" Rosalyn asked with a raised eyebrow. "Don't you know what's out there? Don't you know you'll have everything you want here."

"Yeah stay here and let the Stockholm syndrome set in," Zoey had another cigarette lit as she rolled her eyes at the girl. "We'll have everything we want to ex-"

"How about I do the talking?" Odessa said with a chipper smile as she stepped in front of Zoey. "... I don't. Would you mind telling me?"

"... The world ended." Rosalyn flatly answered.

"Huh?" Zoey said. "The world was fine when I checked."

Suddenly, the environment changed again... it turned into a destroyed place that Zoey recognized as LA undoubtedly. The skyscrapers were collapsed, the buildings were caved in, and skeletons were littering the street. The sky was grey as a cloud of dust so thick blotted out the sun and tears came down Rosalyn's eyes.

"I don't know what happened... but it was like a flash of light," Rosalyn started, "And then everything was gone. Destroyed. All that was left were monsters. That was when I... Awakened, I think I heard someone calling it, and made a Paradise for everyone."

While the girl was talking, Hagan was doing some investigating. He looked around and his eyes landed on a particular piece of newspaper. He knelt, grabbed it, and read the date: June 12, 2017..

"... This is one year from now," Hagan said. "Are you...?"

"My abstraction pulled people from different points in time," Rosalyn said. "You all were pulled here before the world ended."

"I would hug you, but..."

"But I'm covered in mud?" said Penny, smiling as she saw the others. It wasn't the real reason why. Penny stepped forward and embraced Zoey, squeezing her tight while using Zoey's jacket as a towel for her muddy hands. Penny let go of her friend, her face beaming. "Don't worry. It's mostly dry."

"... Mostly," Zoey flatly repeated.

"Almost entirely," said Penny, her grinning faltering as she noticed the redheaded child.

While those two were having a heartwarming moment, Isla collapsed onto her knees as soon as the group arrived. Teleporting so many people had left her utterly exhausted. She pretty quickly flopped onto her back with little care for her surroundings.

She figured she'd take a short nap as everyone started talking, closing her eyes... and Odessa kicked her gently to wake her up. Her eyes shot open as she shot a half-assed glare at the plant lady, grumbling as she propped herself up on her elbows to listen.

"The world was fine when I checked," said Zoey as the young girl revealed that the world had ended.

"The world was around, anyway," corrected Penny, folding her arms over her chest.

"I think if the world ended we woulda noticed it!" Isla piped up. "I dunno about you guys but I didn't see any big world-ending events before I got pulled here... unless you count, like, all that magic shit that started to happen. But the world seems pretty existant to me. Also, we all survived 2012 so unless you're telling me the Mayan calendar was wrong... Was it the Mayan one? Either way, I didn't-"

Odessa just casually booped Isla on the nose again while Penny watched in horrified interest as the recollection of LA being destroyed played out around them. Isla stopped completely rambling when she did and just started up at her with an open mouth. Then she closed it again. Point taken.

"... Are you sure this world is the one we come from?" Odessa asked.

And Rosalyn nodded her head. "I don't know how... But I do know it has something to do with a man named Luther Saul."

"I'm not exactly convinced, sister," Zoey took a puff of her cigarette as she stared at everything with a flat face. "Either way, sugar, how about you let us out and then we figure out what happened?"

"I..." Rosalyn said as she balled her fists. "... Please, don't go. Don't leave me here. You can have everything you want here. I'll give it to you, I promise."

"... You're starting to scare me, sugar," Zoey flatly said as she resisted her voice cracking.

"Yeah I ain't a fan of staying in this place, I got pretty good shit going on back home," Isla said, even though the last bit was a complete lie because her life sucked. "Where's your gratitude for me getting you outta that void, anyway? Can't just force us to stay here after that."

"I'll get you everything you want, and then some!" Rosalyn tried to plead with them. "Just... listen."

"Let the kid talk," said Penny, taking a step forward as she stared down Rosalyn. She wasn't exactly keen on the idea of staying in Paradise for any longer than she had to, but if what she had shown them was real then it would be insane just to ignore it. Even if only a kernel of it was true, it was still something Penny had to pay attention to. "Go ahead. We're listening."

"I'm not exactly in the mood to listen to the person that's keeping us hostage, Penny!" Zoey tried to contain her anger but she ended up shouting with each passing word. Penny shot Zoey a silencing glance, although she understood Zoey's anger.

Rosalyn turned around as she pointed into the distance... and the area suddenly transformed into a garden. A beautiful oasis.

"I can do anything here, we can be anything!" Rosalyn tried to plead with them with no avail. "You never have to worry about anything ever again. That's the point of Paradise."

"Okay," said Penny with a huff and a roll of her eyes. So much for the child having some great revelation about the end of the world. Penny turned to Zoey and gave her an apologetic smile.

"... What happened here?" Odessa asked.

"Huh?"

"What happened here? There are graves..." Odessa pressed on. "... How long have you been bringing people here?"

"... I don't know, a long time," Rosalyn started playing with her fingers as she answered unsurely.

"Don't dodge the question," Odessa continued to press. "Apparitions like the ones we encountered don't appear out of thin air."

A new Recollection began... and it was the same street the strangers were teleported to after the cruise ship sank. And it was a similar sight. Children were playing all sorts of toys and it was almost warming. However, Odessa remained straight-faced throughout.

"It... started fine, everyone was happy in Paradise..." Rosalyn said. Before the Recollection changed to a different, far more macabre scene. It was a bunch of children huddled around one child... who was splattered all over the ground as if he fell off a building. It was a truly disgusting sight as the various children were vomiting, crying, and looking on in horror.

However, an orb came out of the deceased child and everyone smiled and laughed and cheered as it took the same shape like the boy who died.

"Then someone died, but it was okay... because they came back," Rosalyn explained, then the Recollection shifted yet again to... the sea of graves. Dirt mounds were covering the beautiful oasis that was Paradise as each mound had a name. And one particular mound had a little girl hunched over crying. She felt a presence over her as she looked up...

... And saw the very Apparition that killed Caelea.

"But more and more people all... started dying, and they all came back as those things. And I thought it was okay but over time they started..."

The Apparition grabbed onto the little girl's head and crushed it before letting her body hit the ground... and another Apparition came out of it as the Apparition took over her body. And then she instantly regenerated as the Apparition felt new.

"Then they started turning into those things... and..."

The Recollection changed again to one of Rosalyn running from an absolute horde of Apparitions that were chasing after her. She ran into a building and closed the door behind her. She took a few steps away and pointed both of her hands at it as it transformed into a vault door... and it didn't matter as the Apparitions pounded their way through the defenses or phased through and chased after her.

"I don't know, I got scared!" Rosalyn said as Rose-in-the-Recollection fell backward into a dark hole that appeared. And Rosalyn screamed as she fell, and fell, and fell into nothingness. Eventually, she stopped falling... and looked around as she a screen. A screen that seemingly showed Paradise in real-time and she walked up to it, hoping for it to be a portal. No... it was merely an illusion as when she touched it, she stopped like she hit a wall. Then Rose started pushing against it and then pounding it... until she started crying, screaming, as she slumped down to her knees.

"I was calling people here, desperately hoping that they could get me out... but most of the people I called died and made more of those things."

The Recollection ended soon after and it went back to the garden. Tears streamed down Rosalyn's face.

"... Paradise is a pocket dimension created by your abstraction," Odessa explained, "You're God here... but people are unable to pass on because it's like a hole. You can fall in but can't ever climb out. And because they can't pass on, they become... Apparitions."

"Which is why you should open the door, sis," Zoey said as she put a hand on her hip. "And let us out... please..."

"Yeah, you can't just keep us here after all that," Isla added.

"You said you'd give us everything we want if we listened," said Penny with a smirk. "Well, we listened. Now the only thing we want is to leave."

"But..." Rosalyn groaned before Odessa took her side and then her hand. The little girl looked up at Odessa as she said.

"... I'll stay right here, with you," Odessa said as she lifted her head and looked at Penny. Penny opened her mouth to speak but held her tongue. "But, you have to let them go... they don't want to be here, but I'll stay."

"You... really will?"

"Yes," Odessa smiled at her. "Long as you want me to."

"I..." Rosalyn couldn't plead for them to stay for much longer as she finally conceded... she raised her hand into the air as she opened a portal right off to the side. It was a white swirling light that leads into the void. "... This should take you back where you came from... wait, something's not right here."

"Huh?" Zoey asked. "You better not be trying any funky shit, sister I swear."

"It's like something's trying to get in."

"... Finally," The group heard a deep, gravelly, voice come from the portal before they saw two orbs of crimson. Lunging through the portal was a strange black wolf-like entity made out of a black smoke. He came to a skidding stop as he stood tall... he presently the size of a school bus. "... I have found the anomaly."

"The Hound," said Penny. She took a few guarded steps towards him, her eyes unable to mask the animalistic fear she felt in the pit of her stomach. The portal was still open. If he was here for them then she could buy the others the time needed to leave. She managed a few more steps until she was within swiping range of his massive claws. She glared into his glowing red eyes and spoke, her voice dripping with disgust. She said,"What the hell do you want now?"

The Hound's next stretched unnaturally until her face was mere inches away from his as he stared her down equally. He softly said,

"Ease yourself, child," The Hound started, "I am not here for you, or your friends."

Isla stared at the Hound with wide-eyed shock, mouth falling open as she interrupted whatever it was about to go on about to say, "Wait wait wait, what the hell is that, and why the fuck do you sound like you know it?" She glanced at Penny and then back at the hound with faux confidence.

"Because I do," said Penny between clenched teeth, not breaking her staredown with the Hound.

"If you ain't here for us, what are you here for?"

"Them.

Out of the woodworks came a horde of different Apparitions... of various colors, shapes, and compositions. Some resembled their more human counterpart, while others... had long lost their humanity. They filled the skies above them as the Hound raised his snout... and every Apparition turned into a glowing orb of their respective colors as they coalesced into a swirling mass and exited through the portal.

"... I've been searching for those lost souls for centuries," The Hound started, "However, that will never happen again..."

"... What about Caelea?" Zoey asked as she tried to take a drag but her hands were shaking so much that she ended up dropping it.

"It was her time to go," The Hound spoke, "If she didn't die here, then she would be my prey. However... due to her contributions to Farmer Hill, she will return as an apparition. I promise you that."

"You can't like-"

"No," The Hound cut her off, "That was a one-time deal due to circumstance, now... leave this place, never to return."

"Yeah, you heard him," Rosalyn choked, "Leave before I change my-"

And Odessa's hand tightly wrapped around hers as a way of telling her to be quiet. And Rosalyn sighed. Odessa raised her head as she said,

"... Go on," Odessa affirmed.

"Well... this was the strangest adventure I've ever had..." Zoey trailed off as she walked on through the portal, she hoped that it was not a trick or a trap or anything. Then there was Odessa... she had to hand it to the spooky bitch, staying here with the brat so they can leave. There was something off about this but Zoey didn't want to pry. If Odessa wanted to spend the rest of her days with a brat then that was on her. Eventually, Zoey disappeared through the portal without a care or worry behind her. Well, Penny can handle herself.

"Hmph, see ya'll around," Hagan said as he stepped through the portal and disappeared. He wondered how much of what the Hound said was correct, but he didn't want to bother the grim reaper here. He was gonna have to take his word for it...

"So it's that easy, huh?" Isla blinked, staring at the portal. She then turned to the people left. "Well, see you guys, can't say I wanna repeat this experience." Then to Odessa. "Stay safe, don't boop the wee girl's nose too much." She grinned and gave a half salute to them all, before stepping through the portal.

Penny waited as the others went through the portal one by one. She didn't want to hesitate too long, but she wanted to make sure that everyone else made it out first. After the last one filed through, Penny walked over to Odessa and Rosalyn. She dropped to a knee in front of the girl and reached into her bag. Slowly, Penny pulled out the yellow CD case for Jimmy Buffett's Greatest Hits and slyly handed it to the little girl, using her own body to block Odessa's view.

"Play this for her whenever she starts to act gloomy, okay?" said Penny quietly. She winked as she stood up and turned to Odessa. She gave her a tight hug. "Thank you, Odessa. If you ever need anything, well, you're with someone who can seemingly teleport me from across time. Just give me a heads up first."

Penny released Odessa and then turned to step through the portal, stopping right in front of it. She turned back and looked at Odessa, "You're right, by the way. You're not Britney, but you do happen to have some of her better qualities nevertheless. It was good to see—" Penny huffed, shook her head, and gave Odessa a sheepish smile. "I mean, it was nice meeting you."

Then Penny stepped through the portal.

Odessa sighed.

"... We'll meet again, Lawson. I know it."

"... Zoey,"

She heard the voice that sounded familiar but strange. The voice of someone feminine... and when Zoey opened her eyes she felt the light rays hitting her face. She closed her eyes yet again as she felt weird. Tired. And not in the right place she should be. The first thing that Zoey saw was a skinny, green-haired nerdy looking girl looking right down on her.

"Zoey, are you okay?" She asked again.

However, Zoey was looking at her hand as she was perplexed. Was this real? Or fake? She looked around and realized that she was not in some ratty club in LA. She was in a motel room, there was another queen mattress right across from the one she realized she was on. Then there was the window. The motel had tan wallpaper and she could see the overpass.

"... Where am I? What year is it?"

The girl tilted her head.

"Zoey, I know you had a lot to drink."

"No seriously, I..." Zoey looked around as she couldn't believe she was back. "I don't know, Quinn."

"It's June twenty-second," The girl, Quinn, replied. "And you're in the cheapest motel we could find."

"Nice," Zoey said, "Mind explainin' why?"

"Because you didn't seem to be doing too good," Quinn answered. "But are you back from Jupiter? Our check out time was five minutes ago."

"... Something like that," Zoey replied.

“... Miss, miss, wake up.”

Isla’s eyes shot up as she immediately bolted into a sitting position, looking at the unfamiliar woman that had been shaking her awake. She seemed to have fallen asleep on a park bench. It was about the middle of the day with a bright sunlight beating down that immediately made her realise that she was dressed far too warmly. And that something wasn’t right… because there was no way that it would get this hot in Scotland.

“Are you alright?”

“Uh, yeah,” she lied as she turned her attention back to the stranger that was peering at her with concern. “Excuse me, where am I?”

“Tampa, Florida,” the woman looked even more concerned at the question.

Isla, however, did a very good job of keeping the shock from her face and just grinning instead. “Ah, just making sure! You know how it can be when you accidentally fall asleep in a park and then you don’t know if you’re in the same place when you wake up!”

“Sure,” the woman stuttered. “Well, if you’re alright…”

“I am.”

The woman just gave another nod, before hurrying away. Isla let out a heavy sigh as her smile dropped, leaning back on the bench and grabbing her hair in frustration. Wasn’t the portal supposed to take them home? How the fuck had she ended up in Florida of all places. Of course she’d always wanted to visit, but not like this. She pulled out her phone and groaned at the lack of signal. Because of course, she didn’t have a contract that worked in America. She also didn’t have her passport on her which meant she couldn’t just find a flight back home.

She also had no money.

Fuck it. Isla stood up with a frown. She just had to make the most of a bad situation! First, she’d find (steal) some money and get a hotel with wi-fi so she could get on the net. Then, she’d take a nice long nap and wake up to decide what to do.

Might as well enjoy all that Florida had to offer while she was here.

New York City wasn’t nearly as awe-inspiring as she had thought it would be, but by now Penny was absolutely tired of big cities. She pressed into an alcove as she lit a cigarette—screw it, if the world had another year she wasn’t going to spend it robbing herself of the simple pleasure of slowly poisoning herself. When she had come to, she had been back in O’Hare as if nothing had happened, albeit she was still covered in muck from her fight with the Apparition. A quick clean up session and outfit change in the airport bathroom held her off until she got to her AirBnB in NYC.

From there she immediately set to work informing the remaining members of the Support Group as to what she had experienced. Collaborating with Hagan and Zoey to fill in all of the details, she broke the news of Caelea’s death to the others. If Penny had her way she wouldn’t have done it over a stupid Snapchat message, but reality forced her to have to drop the niceties. After, she explained to them the Recollection that Rosalyn had shown them of the world ending. She asked for them to pass on any information they knew about a man named Luther Saul. The only thing she didn’t mention at all was Odessa’s true identity. The Apparition’s secret was safe with Penny.

Then she passed out on the couch, completely exhausted.

When Penny woke she had a text message from Rita on her phone. All it contained was a link to an interview. Penny watched in bemusement as the interviewer put the cult leader through the ringer. This loser was the one responsible for the end of the world? She doubted a cult with someone as easily flustered as him would truly ever get the power needed to end the world, but she couldn’t chance it. The interview had been done in Tampa, Florida. Penny frowned. She didn’t have the money to take a flight down to Florida. Fortunately, she knew someone who could help her out. Penny held up her phone and took a snapshot of the living room.

But first, she needed to fulfill her promise to Lynette, which brought her to the alcove. Crushing the cigarette under her heel, Penny walked up the steps of the apartment building and buzzed the door. A moment later, a voice crackled over the shoddy speaker. Penny paused. She had been planning to tell Lynette’s brother and sister everything just like her friend had asked her to, but she suddenly realized she didn’t actually have a plan when it came to how she was going to tell them. She frowned. Worse comes to worse, she could always try and show them a Recollection. Penny pushed the talk button.

“Hi, it’s Penny Lawson. I’m a friend of Lynette’s. Are you Cierra? We spoke online.”

There was no response but the buzzing of the door as it unlocked. With a sigh, Penny stepped into the lobby and made her way to the elevator. The image of the rope bridge and the black abyss flashed in her mind as she pressed the call button. She couldn’t show them that. Slowly, it was replaced by the Recollection of Lynette’s spirit forgiving Sharon, something that Penny had been unable to do. The vision faded as Penny collapsed against the wall of the elevator and shook. She saw Odessa’s face. Even after she had been forgiven, even as a different person, Odessa still beat herself up for her past crimes.

Penny sank to the floor and cradled her head. Britney had died and came back as an Apparition, but she had helped them escape from Paradise. Odessa had told her that all Awakened eventually returned as Apparitions. Lynette and Caelea would return, but so would Sharon. Penny choked on a cry. Sharon, who Penny had refused to forgive, who would likely hate and blame herself even more than Odessa did. Penny looked at her sobbing reflection in the elevator’s mirrored wall. God, she was disgusting. Was she truly so petty that she had to further ruin a tortured soul's afterlife? Was that the kind of person she wanted to be? If she pushed away everyone that wronged her, how long would it be until there was no one left to stand beside her?

“Sharon, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. What you did was awful, but I forgive you. I know it’s too late, but I forgive you.”

The sigil on Penny’s collarbone began to glow as the interlocked rhombuses shifted and rotated into squares. More and more squares appeared out from behind the others and shrunk as they formed a kind of vortex, each square slightly locking in with another. Penny smiled as the sigil faded and wiped her eyes. For once, the underlying feeling of disgust, both towards others and herself, seemed to fade. She accepted the fact that she needed other people to support her just as much as other people needed her for support. She hadn’t just come here to tell Lynette’s siblings about what had happened to their sister. She needed someone to talk to about the loss of her best friend. She needed someone who knew her just as well if not better than Penny did.

Penny pulled herself up and dusted herself off as the door chimed open, ignoring the weird look from the stranger that stood in front of the opening elevator doors. She made her way to the apartment door and knocked. She lowered her hand and rested it on Lynette’s sigil. It belonged to Lynette’s family. If they wanted it, they could have Penny didn’t need Lynette’s memories to know that she’d never forget her. She was no longer nervous about meeting Jaden and Cierra. It was funny. Penny had always acted like it was the case, but for the first time in her life she truly believed that no matter what happened she would persevere.

The door opened.

The coin flipped over the edge of the balcony, catching the lights of the city as it rotated and hummed.

“Hey dude, it’s me. Mom and Dad still upset?”

A hand snatched out and caught the coin before it could go cascading down to the streets below.

“Yeah, well, tell them I’m sorry but I’ll understand if they don’t believe me. Thanks for the ride, by the way. Yeah, I’m okay. Yeah, yeah, no, it’s...it’ll be okay. She’s not really gone. Wait, what about Zoey?”

Again, the coin sang as it flew over the city.

“I am not telling her you said that. Why? Because that’s disgusting, dude. Don’t. Just, look, I don’t even want to think about the two of you together, let alone think about you with literally anyone in the world ever. Like, oh my god, why would you even put that image in my mind? Ugh, you are such a little—oh, shit!”

The coin slipped through her fingers, but froze in midair almost immediately instead of plummeting to the streets below.

“Huh? Oh, it was nothing. Seriously, don’t worry about it. I’m just practicing. Anyway, look—no I’m not telling you if the other girls there were hot or not, shut the fuck up. Listen. I don’t need you to pick me up tomorrow. Because I’m not going back. Not yet.”

The coin levitated up so that she could grab it again. She flipped it again, but this time it continued to defy gravity as it circled around her.

“I don’t know just make up some dumb excuse. They're gonna chew me out when I get home anyway. Oh, hold on. I gotta go. My ride's here. No. No I’m not gonna tell her to call you. Shut up, dude. Yeah, whatever, I love you too. Bye.”

Penny reached out her hand and effortlessly snatched the coin orbiting her at high speeds from the air. She stepped through the sliding door into the living room, waving her hand to close it behind her.

“Hey there stranger. Been a minute. Lynette says hi, by the way. So, how’s the ghost busting?”

Through hell and back again he's been through and at the end of his adventure he ends up back where he started. Silver Creek, WA. Stacey stood on his lawn, the lights in his house were on and it was late at night. His guitar case was on his back, bags were under his eyes, and he looked ragged and unkempt. Not the worst he's ever looked, but definitely like shit regardless. The door opened, out ran his father, arms wide; he took him in his arms and squeezed him tight. Stacey felt his father's relief, but he couldn't feel the same way. While monsters are worse than home he felt better off with them, because wasn't he a monster himself? A creation that wasn't meant to be born. Someone abused, worthless, useless, and generally unpleasant to be around? Sounds like him. His father let him go, behind him the rest of his family came out of the house, including Sandy and golden brown skinned girl with long curly hair and freckles.

"I'm so happy you're okay. My boy." Stacey glanced at his father, eyes empty, and apathetic. Like he cared before.

"Where the hell you been, bud? We missed you." Brodie hugged him next, his smile and happiness a perverse version of what Stacey knew he truly felt for him. Hatred, contempt, punk ass punching bag. Then Bradie, his mother was next, cold as usual, but she feigned at being happy he's back. All the while the ghosts of his tormentors whispered in his ear the truth behind their lies.

"Come inside, Stacey." They led him inside the bright house. Nothing changed on the inside. The door to his basement studio was still locked like he left it. He remembered the key was in a pocket in his case.

"Stacey, you look like shit." Sandy tried to play off as her usual self, but the girl behind her elbowed her in the side. "I mean, you look like you went through a lot. It's good to have you back." Well that's different. Surprised she didn't call him a pussy.

"I'm Teagan, Sandy's girlfriend." The new girl held out her hand, smile bright and beautiful and everything Sandy wasn't. How's that far? He's gone for a few days and Sandy moves on to someone new? Someone he can tell is better than him in every way. That's not fair. That's not fair.That's. Not. FAIR! His guitar glowed in his bag. Everyone jumped back. The bags under his eyes turned red, his composure he barely kept together came undone. They questioned what the hell was going on with him and what happened the last few months. He took his case off his back, gently pulled his guitar out, blue sigils circled the instrument. He played a few cords and sung along.

My heart torn to pieces
My fears became real
Yet you're here happy and safe
While I had to waste away
Those that deserve to be all that I wish
Stone is your place now
You won't be missed
May the world end so you may live again.

Everyone, but Teagan turned to stone. She backed away from him terrified. Like he cared. He went up to the statue of his brothers and pushed them over. They shattered. No happy ending for them. Next he went to his mother, her face as beautiful as always. Nothing changed, even frozen like this. He knocked her over. He went to Sandy next. The person he loved more than he ever loved himself, and hated less than he hates himself.

"I'll be famous one day and when they ask where my first EP got it's inspiration I'll tell them it was about you. My first love and greatest hell. That's all you'll ever get from me." He pushed her over, but Teagan stopped him.

"Please, don't. She changed while you were gone. She doesn't deserve to be broken."

Stacey laughed for the first time in a long time. Loud, hysterical, pealing laughter. "You can't break the broken, but I'll spare her. She'll never be free, so there goes my burden."

Oddly enough the ghosts disappeared along with Stacey from Silver Creek to wherever the wind took him next.
