So I have been considering ideas concerning some settings that include Mutants, but divert from the more common themes of superheroes, or superhumans akin to DC and Marvel. This is what I came up with. If there is enough interest, I'll make sure to throw together a Discord group that'll work in tandem with the thread.

Thanks for swinging by.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on this. Still a bit unsure, but its definitely promising.

Edit---
Is there any forms of technology specifically created to counter mutant abilities like the collars used in Deadpool, or prisons specifically designed to deal with them?

Considering the scarcity of mutants, very few companies would invest in tech used specifically against them. However, the tech does exist, and it is used by law enforcement on more advanced and economically stable planets, as well as some big-shot villainous people.

In short, yes power-inhibitors do exist but they are very rare.

I’m intrigued, and I’ve got a shapeshifter criminal character that would be so fun. Maybe this group tracks him down and convinces him to join (perhaps just for one mission at first but he sticks around). Takes a criminal to catch a criminal, etc. He’s a shapeshifter (can be animal and humanoid but can’t copy mutant powers) and so he’s got a lot of power, but if our other characters are very powerful and our big bass are ah, well, big, it can work well. He does have some built in power limits too so that helps.

I am afraid that’s not how this would work. The concept of this RP revolves around a group of rookies who already know each other, and have spent time together at the academy. The GBA would additionally not hire a criminal to work for them, since they are assigned to kill bounties, not give alternatives.

I wouldn’t say our characters are ‘very powerful’, but rather teamwork oriented. I’d prefer it that players make characters as is described in the original post, considering the setting of this RP.

Fair enough. Well I might still be interested. Gotta give some thought as to what I’d do for a character and stuff.

I'm leaning towards an electricity user, but I'm still working on the exact nature of the mutation. I kind of want to do something that starts out very weak, or mild but can expand in versatility over time.

Welcome, everyone who has expressed interest. I appreciate it.

@malmshodes

That sounds like a cool idea, 👍.

I'll throw up an OOC soon, and make a Discord group.

I was thinking either someone who can become invisible to the naked eye (thermal and other means of sight could still detect, just nothing along the normal wavelengths of light) and who would be stealthy. Or someone who can "possess" machinery for short periods of time.

Both of those sound really cool, and would fit right in.

@Shard Maybe even both in one, make the invisibility be involintary and maybe activated by stress or tied into the machine possessing so when he possesses something his body just seems to *POOF* when it really just goes limp where it was... Ill do some thinking and probably end up picking one or the other.

I just wish we knew a little bit more about offensive technology, because its kind of hard to make mutants, if we don't know what we're dealing with. I mean, ideally our character's abilities and the enemies should be close(r) to even grounds

That's why I'm waiting for the OOC to be ready before I commit to a character idea... Got a few kicking around in my head, though

@malmshodes

Being a Mutant does not really make a difference when you're getting shot, unless you specifically have a resilience type-mutation, which can often be circumvented by different types of ammunition, and high-powered weapons which aren't all that uncommon.

Mutants are so scarce that very few companies waste money developing weapons used specifically against them, when basically any weapon that can kill a human can kill a mutant. Anyone with a gun is usually on even grounds with a mutant, unless you're aiming like a Stormtrooper.

If you can shoot lasers from your hands, a bullet or blaster bolt will still kill you. If you're super-resilient, there are weapons today designed to shoot through a tank, and given how this is a sci-fi setting, there are rifles that surpass this which can easily kill a mutant like that, and they're far more common than a mutant with that power-set.

You don't really need to put too much thought into what kind of weapons there are when making your character, in regards to making it even with the bad guys. Our characters will nearly always be outgunned, and require tactics to get through the situation. Anyone bulldozing their way through will likely die.

___

With that said, I can be more detailed about what kind of Tech there is, which I will try to do in the OOC that I am working on. Thank you for pointing that out, 👍.
