Midnight walked around the desk and said “Information mostly for now…and my senses are telling me there is more to them…a feeling that we will need them in this fight”

She sat down and said “now we know the pattern. We must find the reason. Then, we can find the lost souls.”

Matias pouted, raising an eyebrow at the boss.

"I hope your senses know what the hell they're talking about."

Another huff. His legs took him a little closer to the desk and directed him to the nearest chair.

"Well first we gotta know where they even are," he said, "because they've been taken from pretty much everywhere, but we don't know where they even ended up."

He then, suddenly, chuckled.

"Hell. Maybe the bug knows."

Midnight paused and said “the locations he sent to you were his ideas of where they could be…it wouldn’t be bad to ask” she sighed and leaned her head back, looking worn out. “It is nice not to wear that bloody voice changer…”

The door opened and Bane poked his head in. “Shall I make breakfast?” Midnight nodded and said “that sounds great thank you Bane”

Matias leaned back almost in perfect unison to Midnight, he himself being a bit tattered from last night's fiascos. He could sense Midnight's own tiredness in the air– he has known about it even. He was about to suggest resting before Bane popped in the room with the prospect of food.

"Go ahead," he replied, "I'm starving."

He turned back to Midnight.

"I think you deserve at least some kind of break. We'll come back to this."

Midnight rubbed her eyes as well as holding her wound. “It’s been a long few days to say the least…Bane is a good cook. Scarlet is the chef but I think Iris had to help her sleep so she could still be out for a bit…” she got up and sighed then moved to head to the door. But she stumbled on something on the floor and hit the desk with her bad side, making her hiss and double over, almost falling over.

Matias would have been the first one out the door. He wasn't one for breakfast, but he felt the urge today, and typically that meant that the day would go easy on him.

Keyword "would".

From behind him he heard a loud clunk followed by an equally audible hiss. He turned around and, to his horror, he saw exactly what he had feared. He got hit with a sudden chill that dissipated about at quickly, effective for him to rush over to Midnight's side.

"What?! What happened?! Did it burst?!"

His hand drifted over where he remembered the wound being, though it was eventually led over by Midnight's own hand. A phantom feeling of warm dampness came under his palm, and although he knew to ignore it, his brain didn't stop making him think something was actually there.

Midnight gasped and shook her head. “No…the smart skin is still there…just hurts badly getting hit…” she closed her eyes tight trying to get a grip on the pain. She lowered her head as the pain made her light headed for a moment.

“Just…don’t move a moment…just keep me upright so I don’t pass out…the pain should fade in a moment…”

Matias felt his heart sink as Midnight slumped forward; in a slight burst of panic, his hands fumbled about and fell around her midsection, his arms slowly making their way around to secure her. Outside of that, Matias did as told and didn't move. For the longest time, what felt like hours, the only sounds he could hear were his shaking breathing and an evergrowing ringing in his ears. His palms felt numb, hot, and sweaty, but he still didn't move. Only his mouth did, making him swear softly under his breath.

"Let me know..."

After the long minutes she was able to catch her breath again and moved upright a little. “I’m okay now…the pain isn’t as bad…” she looked up and saw how close their faces were. She blushed a little and said “sorry…I didn’t mean to…thank you”

Matias kept his hands on Midnight even after she gave the okay. They only came off for a split second so they could move up to under her arms as she rose.

"That's good," he sighed.

Their eyes locked for a moment. His looked dull as always, though they seemed to lighten a bit at the realization of their proximity. At that moment, he caught a glimpse of Midnight's face reddening.

She did not just do that.

"It's fine. I'm just glad you didn't start bleeding again."

His head motioned towards the door.

"Come on. I'll take you to the kitchen."

Midnight nodded and said “right…food…that’s a good idea…” but she didn’t move from the spot. She didn’t want to move just yet.

Bane was cooking in the huge kitchen when scarlet came in yawning. He looked up and asked “any change?” Scarlet shook her head and sat down at the counter. “No…Dante still isn’t waking up…Iris is working on it now but she’s going to crash soon…”

"Right. Let's g–?"

Matias tried to move Midnight forward, but nearly stumbled onto the floor. It seemed the boss had him anchored.

"... What's wrong? Are your legs broken or something?"

He pulled again. And again.

"Quit being stupid. I'm hungry."

And with one swift movement, Matias had scooped Midnight into his arms. He took a moment to adjust to the weight he was carrying before stepping out the door. The kitchen being right there signalled him to place Midnight down. He didn't need the embarrassment. He at least had the decency to walk Midnight inside, where he overheard the current discussion, but instead of chiming in he chose instead to sit down on the first available chair he saw.

"No one slept well, huh?" he teased, "Sucks. What's cooking, dog man?"

Midnight squeaked as he picked her up. “Sorry, my legs didn’t want to move for some reason…”

Midnight walked in and said “morning all…” Bane looked over and said “I am making French toast and eggs and bacon. Sound alright?” Scarlet nodded and said “bane and I did…Iris is stubborn so she refuses to sleep until Dante wakes up”

Matias pouted slightly, letting out a soft "hmmmph".

"Looks like we have–" he glanced at Midnight for a second. "–an insomnia problem. Lord help all of you if I ever catch it, because I like my sleep."

His eyes rolled, and his nails tapped against the counter in a arrhythmic fashion. No one asked him to, but he got off his seat almost as quickly as he got on it.

"Anyway... that's alright. Thanks. Iris isn't still on that crap, is she?"

They looked up at him and Bane said “umm…ya, she is still working on him. She won’t stop. There’s a reason she’s good at her job but also crazy”

Midnight sighed and said “I’ll go check on him in a little while to make sure Iris doesn’t kill herself”

"Seriously," Matias quipped, "all the man needs is some rest."

He would have said something else, but his thoughts were interrupted by a familiar creaking down the hall. Oleander gradually appeared in the doorframe, confirming yet another fear of Matias. The bug could hardly fit in the frame, needing to duck to even look at everyone properly. It placed what looked like a sniper rifle on the ground beside it.

"Uh..." Matias cleared his throat. "We're having breakfast. It's almost ready."

"I ALREADY HAD," Oleander signed.

Matias didn't even bother asking what it ate.

"Can you check on Iris? Chick with the white hair?"

Oleander stared for what felt like an entire minute before looking down the hall. It moved like old machinery, its legs creaking as it crouched to pick up its rifle and then moved itself along the hall. It reached the guest room, its hand gently nudging the door open, a creak signalling its arrival as it peered through the opening.

Bane nodded and said “what do bugs eat? Is he a bug under the armor?” Midnight shook her head and rubbed her temples, her cheeks still a little red. “They haven’t said…”

Bane started dishing out food and said “eggs will be up next…”

Iris was pacing next to Dante who still hadn’t woken. She looked stressed and on her last thread. She couldn’t figure out why he hadn’t woken up yet. “Come on Dante…what is going on??”

Like a child, Matias gripped his cutlery in two tightened fists, pointing them up to the sky.

"Ask the thing yourself if you're so curious," he said, eyeing the food with clearly malicious intent.

As if a switch flicked on him to begin, he immediately pierced a piece of bacon and shoved it in his mouth, the salt and grease enamoring on his tongue. He didn't hesitate to have another piece join right after.

Meanwhile, Oleander was making their way inside, hunched and all. Their gun found a spot in a nearby corner, and they soon approached the frantic Iris as if she wasn't so.

"ARE YOU IRIS?" it signed, tilting its head slightly. "THE HUMAN ASKED ME TO CHECK ON YOU."

Babe smirked and laid the French toast out as midnight used her shadows to pour coffee and she said “they will tell us when and if they want…no reason to push it. Now once Dante is recovering we need to get to work on the next phase which is strengthening the lower and middle levels. We need to learn what the needs are…”

Iris turned and saw them. She watched his hands and said “I am. Sorry I forgot to introduce myself last night…” she was shaking from the lack of sleep, watching Dante. “I don’t know what else to do…I’m not skilled with vampires…”

Matias reduced the food in his mouth to mush, swallowing when he was done. Rubbing the excess grease away from his lips with his arm, be looked towards his boss.

"What do you mean? Did the lower level lose power again?"

Oleander turned towards the falled Dante. Its hand wrapped around his neck, and its lenses went to work, chirping and flickering. It stood perfectly still for about half a minute before turning towards Iris.

"I DETECT SEVERE ANEMIA AND DEHYDRATION IN HIS SYSTEM."
