1. What Pokemon are around Baltimore, Maryland, United States?
2. What is a reasonable chronological age for someone to go to college in this world, and what age would they look like?
3. You originally said we could have trainers of any level. Could my trainer start with two Pokemon, both around level 10? It would show that she's had Pokemon for a little longer than Reno, but it wouldn't take long to catch up.

I plan to have a character originally from Baltimore but starting college in TN, so she will have a reason to run into Reno. She will be just starting to give up on her "childish dream" of becoming a Pokemon Trainer and aiming for a "real career," unless chance encounters lead otherwise.

Edit: Oooh, idea. Would it be okay for my character to have "lost her trainer status" due to not completing requests? But she ignored multiple requests because they seemed kind of fishy? Some kind of vague villainous thing going on under the Pokemon League's nose, and nobody believed the newbie trainer. So she owns Pokemon but would have trouble doing trainer things without the League's support, thus going to college for a "real career."

Haha! Yeah, I'd love the company. First... your three original questions.

Answer 1: Pokemon in and around the greater Baltimore area: Pidgey, Psyduck, Gastly, Snubbull, Gulpin, Lunatone, Shuppet, Drilbur, Yamask, Litwick, Clauncher, Klefki, Pumpkaboo, Togedemaru. As long as you're in the north east, these Pokemon will be generally the same. Also, the more experienced a trainer your playing as, the more Pokemon will show up in your search.

Answer 2: I would say that going to college and becoming a trainer would happen around the same age. Becoming a trainer is basically an alternative route to going to college. Therefore, the average age for college would also be 30 (yet still looking around 10). If you don't like the idea of being a younger looking character, I don't see why they wouldn't have optional growth pills that temporarily help people age faster. These would be available, after you are at least 20 years old (and looking about 7 years old).

Answer 3: Yes, she can have level 10 Pokemon, just as you were thinking.

I like the college idea for your character. And yes, this time of year there would be no school, but maybe she is starting in the spring semester?

Bulbasaur, Fennekin, Totodile would be the starters.

And Yamask is cool, but the choice is yours.

@Zanavy You could also pick any non-legendary, non-mythical, non-ultrabeast, non-fossil, Pokemon to be your second Pokemon, because while your character was a "trainer" she could have went anywhere in the world for free. While on her first assignment, she could have discovered the thing that turned her off to being a trainer.

I do like the "fishy missions" idea, though, and maybe we could use that as a plot point later.

Myra Hayes

Name: Myra Hayes

Home: Originally from Alpharetta, Georgia, United States (near Atlanta). Now attending college in College Park, Maryland, United States.

Myra is 31 and looks about 10. She is a bit tall and gangly for her age. Her peach-colored hair is cut just shy of shoulder-length. Her warm light brown eyes match the warm smile that’s often seen on her face. She likes to wear pretty “Southern belle” sundresses but will settle for a sweater dress and scarf when it’s cold.

Personality: Myra is typically a bubbly and friendly person, perhaps to a fault. Though she’s okay with friendly Pokemon battles, she can’t stand interpersonal conflict, and will often… bend the truth a bit rather than say something that will make other people angry. That, combined with a tendency to speak before thinking when she gets excited, has led to a reputation of being a sweet and fun friend to hang out with but not a deep friend you can share your secrets with. Sometimes she becomes anxious and jittery when the web of subtle lies grows too big and complex. Myra also has some trouble sticking up for herself and her beliefs if it would involve an argument, instead choosing to wait out or circumvent the situation. Those flaws aside, Myra has a sunny and friendly personality that can put most people and Pokemon at ease, and she is more than willing to help a person in need if she has time to spare.

Biography: Myra is the youngest of three siblings. She has a normal upper-middle-class suburban family, except for one thing: her parents hate Pokemon. They are dangerous, and smelly, and make a mess all over the place with their fur or feathers or boiling magma and whatnot. And trainers are even WORSE. They are just handed free airfare, free supplies, free healthcare for their brutally beaten “companions,” and for what? The entertainment value? The world needs more doctors and lawyers who WORK and contribute to the good of society for an honest living, not more freeloading Pokemon trainers.

At a young age, Myra learned two things: that she likes Pokemon, and how to lie. If she got fur on her clothes after feeding a wandering street Pokemon, she’d say it must have rubbed off from her friend’s clothes. When she joined the after-school Pokemon club, she told her parents she had joined the track team, which was -technically- true and worked out pretty well until she was kicked off the track team for non-attendance.

Of course, becoming a Pokemon trainer at age 30 was out of the question. Myra was urged to apply for colleges and ended up going to University of Maryland to major in Communications. It wasn’t the closest or cheapest option, but Myra said she wanted to get a little distance from home in order to learn how to be an independent adult, an admirable goal. In reality, she wanted to move far from home so her family wouldn’t find out that the college plan was just a facade, and her REAL plan was to become a Pokemon trainer!

Over the past few months, Myra has passed the trainer test, gotten a couple Pokemon, and participated in a few battles between her studies. She has been able to keep her Pokemon secret from her family, and she even paid extra to stay in her dorm over winter break. But now comes the real test: the big family Christmas and New Year's gathering in Knoxville, TN. Will Myra be able to keep her secret for just over a week?

Pokemon:

Perry – Bulbasaur – male – level 11 – hardy nature – Overgrow – Tackle, Vine Whip, Growth, Leech Seed

Myra chose Bulbasaur as her starter because of the claim that Bulbasaur are “easy to train.” She didn’t want an unruly Pokemon to blow her cover. Perry turned out to fit the expectation. He is a rather dependable, loyal, and well-behaved Pokemon, though he acts too serious at times and struggles with the concept of “fun.”

Flicker – Litwick – female – level 8 – impish nature – Infiltrator – Astonish, Smog, Ember, Minimize

Flicker, on the other hand, might blow Myra’s cover and relish in it. She is a childlike soul who loves wandering away and playing Hide and Seek – whether or not anyone else has agreed to play. She misbehaves not out of malice, but out of the pride of being able to escape anyone, get into anywhere, and the innocent (in her eyes) fun of startling people and Pokemon.

And yes, I like the "fishy missions" idea as well. I'm thinking that the head of the Pokemon Association or someone higher up in the association is corrupt. There will also be a "bad guy" team as well, and the corruption in the Pokemon Association might even be linked to that "bad guy" team.

Name: Alexandra Herrera ("Alex")
Age: 35

Personality: Generally put off by the chaos and calamity of the "busy life," Alex has grown into something akin to a free spirit. She can be rather aloof, though not in a ditzy way, especially when caught well out of her elements. She absorbs wholly into the subjects and hobbies that excite or interest her, even if it comes at the expense of a social life and most relationships with fellow humans. Even so, she isn't brash or dismissive of others; she doesn't act invalidating or condescending. Rather, she is genuinely, and at times endearingly, ignorant of a some social norms, a trait that she is aware of to the point of taking comical passes at herself over it. What she lacks in her ability to connect with most other humans, she might very well make up for when it comes to wildlife, especially Pokémon, which she seems to have genuinely strong bonds with, and understands on a level that many others. Pokémon are among the only living beings Alex will venture off her beaten path to engage with, and she will more readily put herself in harm's way to rescue one in peril than she would most other people. This often serves a point of friction between her and her peers, though she's quick in her endeavor to justify by any means necessary.

Overall, she follows a strict doctrine of inward focus, opting not to allow the toils and strains of others to impact her course.

Biography: Formerly from central Massachusetts, Alex originally moved to Boulder, Colorado at the age of 18 in the interest of pursuing higher education, and escaping to an environment that "brought her peace."

After a year at University of Colorado in Boulder, she transferred her studies to Naropa University where she sought a degree in environmental studies while exercising her academic pursuits through spiritual focus, and doing a web-based program in Zoology through another institution. Alex's long standing interest in nature, the outdoors, and Pokémon, lead to her to seek employment at the Denver Zoo, where she apprenticed through college under PokéZoologist Professor Sylvia de la Rosa, whose research focuses chiefly on Pokémon behavior, with an emphasis on researching differences between those in the wild and those in captivity. She would continue to work in this position through her time in college.

Following her graduation, Alex was promoted to being one of Professor de la Rosa's assistants. As an assistant, she frequently accompanied the Professor out into the areas surrounding the city, wherein rolling plains gave way to the Rocky Mountains. Alex, being one with a knack for photography, would take frequent pictures at the Professor's request. On occasion she would assist in the field observations, though she was generally responsible for comping de la Rosa's notes. Mundane as the work might have been, Alex was happy to be of help, and was equally enthralled in her own research in regional variances within Pokémon species.

While she enjoyed her work with Professor de la Rosa, Alex longed to be able to strike out on her own in order to expand upon her own research. When she learned that the Zoo would soon be starting a project to fund an aspiring Pokémon researcher to go out into the field, she began to polish and consolidate her own notes, photos, and videos, hoping to submit them to the board responsible for allocating the funds and earn their approval.

Oh, right. Good catch. Yes @Wayward, the average age of people attending college in this world is actually 30, around the same age one becomes a trainer. I'll add this into the first OOC post. @Zanavy and I discussed this in another OOC post.

Now, attending college has a more flexible age range than becoming a trainer. Maybe she is extremely gifted and allowed into college a few years early, up to 5 years early I would guess. This would put her age for attending college somewhere around 25, give or take a year or two. But becoming a trainer, has a solid 30 year old mark on it.

Also, until you're done growing, youths age at one third the rate they do today. So an 18 year old in this world would look 6. And this is why the 30 year olds look 10.

Once you hit full physical maturity, the aging process is slowed down even further, to one tenth the normal aging rate.

This might be a bit nitpicky on my part, but if college age in this world is around 30, does that mean the rest of peoples' education is offset?

IE high school in their mid to late 20s?
