An old dwarf walks up to you in long flowing robes, his silver beard braided all the way down to his knees. You notice a battleaxe at his side adorned with rubies and gold, a dragon skull capping off the hilt. He looks up at the skull you are staring at in wonderment, easily as big as a house.
"This one here was Gravid The Mighty, He was Slain at the battle of the Bole. Killed around ten thousand men and dwarves before he fell to my great, great, great..." He held up his fingers counting back, finally he gives up and says.
"Well let us just say, a lot of greats ago the beast was slain with an arrow to the knee, from Fletcher the Archer. His arrow, one among thousands struck true."

"But how did a single arrow kill a dragon?" you ask incredulously. The Dwarf nods at you smiling.
"Poison my boy, poison made of the Nightgleam root. The beast fought on for three whole days with a dose that would have killed any less than a dragon in a few minutes."
A siren blares in distance, the Dwarf narrows his eyes then draws his axe. "Dragon!!!" he cries. He looks you over before walking over to a display of weapons. He hefts his axe smashing it down upon the case. and tosses you a spear.
"Will you fight with me boy, will you be the first to slay a dragon since Agnemon the First?" Without another word he dashes off down the hall, will you follow to glory, or a glorious death?

Random inspiration hope you don't mind. Also it is hard to write in second person.

@Zran, Arguably a great idea depending on how in depth the OP wants to go with this, World building is a lot of fun, it's great fun actually- but for a one-time thread it can be overwhelming to work on all of that. However, if Dark wants to go for an Allaria/Apocalyptica-esque type deal where it's continually rebooted (and if we appeal to the almighty Mahz) it can eventually become a sub forum for a world to play in.

Yeah I was more intending for the places we might visit for now, where characters come from too.

@zran So first, to deal with the idea of a 'region sheet' I think it would make more sense to make a faction/organisation sheet to accompany the Character sheet. You can have the city, of course

@cordi yes i intend on keeping this going as long as possible and world building is definitely a part of it. As for being evil. sure, myself and Everblight will already be playing (antagonists) evil characters. I'll be playing a 'good' guy too. The only thing I will say is that in order to have the power to continually shape shift would require very potent magic so either you character is an exception among its race or the race as a hole is extremely rare. The avatar thing seems excessive. No fun if everyone is running around all magical.

@Titania Welcome back, the ideas for the Vierra sound fine by me :)

@everyone I understand that people are getting excited but a big part of the plot is that truly powerful magic has faded significantly. Proper wizards are rare. I know the attraction of playing such characters but I can say this, Everblight is playing a magical being, Cordi's shapeshifter is undoubtedly magical and Cruiser's character is magical. So that's already 3 powerful magical entities. I may limit it there for now. It'll be no fun and make no sense if everyone is just a super mage.
Also, please remember again that I am aiming to take mature tones with this; there will be poverty, racism and death. Don't expect characters not to die.

Just the species I am working on

Farrgorm

Overview:
The Farrgorm, also called Far and Farrg, are a tall dark skinned species native to the south-western lands of Enduwin. A typical male stands at around six foot tall and females can reach heights as great as seven. Skin tones vary from dark blue to grey and pitch black, depending on the geographical lineage of the individual. Differences in facial features between genders are minimal other than the more protruding jaw of the male and the noticeably pointed ears of the females. As a whole, the Farrgorm are a species that values brain over brawn but there are nonetheless countless exceptions to this rule, despite their somewhat frail nature in comparison to other species such as the dwarves or centaurs. The average lifespan of a Farrgorm is approximately 89 human years, or fifteen Awth-gnúth. The Awth-gnúth is a biological transition which every Farrg goes through roughly every six human years. Over their lives, the cells of the Farrg deteriorate at a much greater rate than those of humans, dwarves or elves. After this six year period, they have reached senility and Awth-gnúth is a three week long process in which cellular regeneration occurs throughout the body very rapidly. Afterwards, the individual will be returned to a condition relatively close to their physical prime. The average times that a single Farrg can do this is 15, hence the expected lifespan. Actual numbers fluctuate between 12 and 17 depending on lifestyle and socio-economic factors. There have been recorded incidents as high as 20. A Farrg going through less than 10 Awth-gnúth is rare enough that it is almost always due to death caused by disease or injury.
Species Traits:
• Rebirth-Regression; The Farrg’s unique biological process and evolution is both a gift and a curse. Each will reach and live through, hopefully, six peaks of physical health and fitness. This period usually lasts for about two and a half human years of the six between each Awth-gnúth. This means the average time a Farrg spends at peak condition is roughly 35-40 human years. However, conversely, they’ll will spend the other 45-50 in a senile state. Essentially there is no ‘middle-age’ within the species and ‘youth’ is a concept only ever associated with 1st cycles.

• Brain Over Brawn; Even shortly after Awth-gnúth, a Farrg is no physical match for a human, let alone a centaur. However, they do obtain impressive intellect and are known to be competent magic users, when the rare circumstance of a true mage being born amongst them does occur. Their biology means they don’t have one youth of experience and one old-age of refelction; they can have over a dozen of each. Thus, after several Awth-gnúth have been undergone they show an unheard of combination of wisdom, ability and enthusiasm. The change can be as much a psychological one as it is physical, and regression through the different inherent mentalities eventually leads to a moulding of the two.

Speciality:
Master Traders; The Farrg are experts when it comes to manipulating the rudimentary economic systems found in the various states across Enduwin. Whether as snake oil salesmen, legitimate goods traders, deceptive merchants or honest tradesmen, the Farrg are known far beyond the bounds of their native Enduwin for their ability to turn a profit.

The religion major of Enduwin, Nonatheoism, is best described as neo-pantheistic-agnosticism. Everyone knows the tales of the Nonatheon and pays great heed to them but, within everyday life, criticism and analysis of the stories and theories are welcomed. To the Farrgorm their deities have tangible form, communication with Neyav has been recorded and Ifreann is truly thought to exist beneath Enduwin. The criticism comes in the form of explaining these phenomenon, and the deities themselves through theory and postulation based on a mix of science, magic and theology. One of the core beliefs is that the Nine conclusively exist but their nature and status as gods is debatable. There exists churches dedicated both to individual god(ess)s and the Pantheon as a whole. These churches are all overseen by a central organisation known as the Shapayl. Over 98% of Farrg are members of the Shapayl and one’s stature within the organisation is of great importance socially, especially in political terms.

First off, no need to apologise, it's only been a day and you're doing me a big favour with the map :)

Also FYI, The big bad and other main antagonists have been worked out, Everblight was the first to ask so that's who's gotten the role. That's not to say we can't have other degenerate characters, but the plot driving baddie spot has been filled.

It hasn't been claimed persay but it is going to be significant to the plot later on. Just be prepared for things to happen there if you decide to make a faction.

Though considering you say you had enough magic based characters, I guess I should go with something else.

What's the ruling on vampires or werewolves?

I was thinking vampires could be a result of Dúv's last assault against humanity before he was locked away, a curse that turns people into a creature of the night. Which is passed down the traditional way, a vampire bite.

Though it does take some effort to find a balance with vampires, since they've been interpreted in many ways. Unless we stick with traditional/ lore friendly vampires, which could work I suppose.

As for werewolves, I was thinking it could be a curse given to people by Naduir, as punishment for destroying her precious nature. Werewolves would probably be easier to workout in a RP.

First thing first, welcome

The idea of a vampire could work, but are you planning on it being a good/neutral character or a bad one?
The idea of Naduir punishing people doesn't really fit, I mean life is the biggest part of nature in her eyes.
I said I want players to be free to create but when it comes to the gods, their views and certain magical limitations I am going to have to play the GM for what I considered to be the best for the story.
I am all for incorporating vampires or something like them into the RP though :D I will reiterate though, it is a mature themed roleplay and I'd like to avoid teenage cliches and anything even remotely twilight like

A note for everyone: Necromancy is out as it is part of the plot. There is literally a thousand things people could do/create yet ye keep going to the few things I have to curtail. Love you guys

That's what I like to hear.

Ok yeah, I mean Dúv doing that could work. Although why the curse would change one species into another may be a little sketchy. The curse could have an origin in Enduwin from the early days when magic was very strong.

What I meant about good/bad is is your character going to be willing to be a member of the party as opposed to an antagonist. Already got several main antagonist and some other malicious characters.

@everyone in the ooc, there is more info, forgot to mention that when I posted it several;hours ago. Namely, info on magic and sample sheet layouts.

Hmm, I'll work on the werewolf origin, you're completely right. All races should be susceptible to the curse, not just one race.

Again I feel like such a fussy body, but there would actually have been plenty of magic among the different species initially. It would have been tiny, almost tribal like and curses would certainly play a part. It is just how I see it fitting in,

Of course if ye guys do really want it to be direct-god-related thing I am flexible. Just trying to establish a happy medium between letting you guys make anything, and the integrity of the plot I have cooking, that i hope you all will enjoy
