Ancient Evils of the past can easily be forgotten. The Demon King had once been such evil, believed a relic of times long past, reduced to a story told over in hundreds of ways. And so the story of his original demise remained as the name Grado became more associated with the country and its misfortune than the hero of old. However, the telling of his resurrection was nothing so stale or forgotten. Not all of a century had passed since the time when the Twins of Renais had risen up to defeat him with their allies in the Darkling Woods. While few there were even some who could still remember those days and there were many who could trace their heritage back to the great heroes.

Magvel, 871 the world has seen a great many changes since the last days of Heroes. After the Demon King’s banishment the continent was immersed into a period of rebuilding. That which was destroyed was now to be rebuilt. There was much turmoil and tragedy lurked often, however, many of those who took succession proved themselves to be excellent rulers and for a while there was a time of great growth and prosperity. Come the next generation though and things began to change drastically, revolts and rebellions arose. Now the continent has been divided in nine different ruling powers…

In the west there is the Great Kingdom of Renais, known for being the birthplace of the Hero-Twins. After King Edmurre’s passing less than a year ago, his son, Eldys, has inherited the title.

In the northwest there is the Kingdom of Frelia, long noted for its close alliances with Renais. It is currently under the rule of King Irvarse and his Queen, Lady Mersa.

To the far northeast lies the Theocracy of Rausten, currently under the watch of the Divine King Vilareth. Rausten shares close ties with both Renais and Frelia leading to a strong alliance between the three.

Between Rausten, Frelia, and Renais lies the Lesser-Kingdom of Carcino which since destroying its Republic ways has taken to serving the greater nations in order to make sure its boundaries are safe. In the North it governed by Lord Rottek while Lord Adrian runs the South.

In the Great Desert lands lies the Kingdom of Jehanna, known for the mercenaries it creates. After an overthrow of the previous line it is ruled by the Warrior King Avdlan.

To the south of Jehanna lies the remaining namesake of the once Great Empire of Grado, now nothing but a small kingdom. King Aefon is the current lord of its lands.

Another Kingdom Formed in the aftermath of Grado’s misfortune is the Kingdom of Irea. It borders Renais, Jehanna, Grado, Hiactance, and the Free City, placing it in a rather unpleasant location should things turn sour. Currently the country is by King Reginald, the Just.

Along the continents southern coast is the Kingdom of Hiactance, ruled by King Vendrick a good man who in recent times has become much too fearful and paranoid, losing sight of things which are important.

And finally, in the southeast there is the large City-State of Taizel now much more commonly referred to simply as ‘The Free City.’ It is ruled by Lord Hector and his three councilmen. A notable port for trade by sea.

…All of these powers sat in an uncomfortable peace. Many are still dealt with their own issues and were not yet ready to engage in any sort of foreign war, inside revolts and complaints hindered them enough. Nevertheless, there are those who are well enough on their feet to expand, and with the death of Renais’ previous King, there was someone with enough ambition to take advantage of the current state of things.

Information Regarding the Nations on the Continent of Magvel [I'll update this more nicely as I originally planned, but for now I'll just put things which will be helpful]

Grado

The Empire of Grado has a long history, one founded by heroes and ended by villains. And while still Grado in namesake the country can hardly be compared to the Empire it came from. Even in comparison to the other nation which came from former-Grado territory it can’t be considered the greatest. The most it can boast is the remains of the former Capital and the closest link to the former countries previous sovereigns as the newline was formed by a cousin of Vigarde’s. Despite the efforts from Renais to help Grado in its reconstruction after the war many of the citizens and nobles bear prominent animosity toward the country. The current sovereign, King Aefon, is notable for the efforts he has put into restoring the country to its former glory.

Timeline

803 – The Empire of Grado invades Renais, King Fado dies. Eirika rescues Ephraim at Renvall. The two part ways, Eirika to Jehanna and Ephraim to Grado Keep. Battles are fought, Queen Ismaire dies. Eirika and Ephraim are united.

Biography & Personality
Lance grew up to be a regal man in all manners, especially when it come to deeds, and honor. He always pushed himself hard in trying to uphold any vows and promises, earning to respect of his close friends and men. Despite being serious in his duties, Lance know how to take it easy when in company of his trusted friends.

Considered as an ideal leader by the men serving under him, it was no surprise he was chosen by the Irean King, his father, to lead the campaign against the invading Renais. Lance was surprised at Renais sudden open hostility, but his father, king Reginald, seemed to have knew this day would come eventually. Renais always held a grudge against the Grado territories, even if it had fragmented into multiple independent and free kingdoms over the years. The Prince showed openly that he was against this war, but it would not keep him from defending his people. Fearless, he lead the charge against the forces of Renais and proved himself a very good commander with his bold tactics and quick reactions in the heat of battle.

At times, Lance would even venture into enemy territory for sabotage missions. He would cut off supplies, destroy siege equipment and steal supplies from Renais, making himself well known among even the enemy. His daring moves and tactics were what kept the enemy at bay for such a long time, but the forces of Irea alone were far too little and less prepared to push back such a mighty foe. Each day they were losing more and more ground and even the Prince had to realize some kind of measures had to be taken if they were to save Irea.

It was the king who decided to send an emissary to the other neighboring countries to seek help in this battle. The king also said that he would lead the troops from now on, since the emissary was to be no other than Lance himself. The prince opposed his father, but to no avail. King Reginald a king just as stubborn as he was just. Accepting this fate, Lance promised to bring back help and save his beloved Irea, making it a vow to uphold.

Personality&Biography

Alessa is a Princess, but you wouldn't know it by looking at her the first time. Not because she doesn't look the part, but because she has none of the leader spirit one would expect to see from someone of royal blood. Despite this minor setback, the Princess of Hiactance proved to be gifted in the arts of magic, particularly in the dark magic.While it may seem taboo in any other nations, dark magic is a part of original Grado's heritage, and while the original empire itself might be shunned upon, dark magic remain a commodity in Hiactance at least.

Alessa was raised and lived for the most part of her life inside of Hiactance castle. Overprotected by her father, she lived the life of a sheltered girl and even undergo her training to become a Shaman from within the castle walls, unlike the customs were. Unfortunately, her training was not the only custom the king broke over the latest years. As the years passed, king Vendrick seemed to feel more and more threatened. The king always was someone who took no risk, and even had been known for it, but now it was of another proportion. Recently, Princess Alessa even began to fear what action her father might take next.

Traditionally, the head of the strongest mercenary group, of guild, had the right to rule in Jehanna, but that right was kept within the same family ever since the hero Joshua claimed the throne back for his family, along with the help of the legendary Renais twins.

Biography & Personality
Farsine has dedicated the entirety of her life to the service of her country and King. She has put their needs before all others, including many of her own ‘personal’ desires. She has spent the majority of her life bettering herself for the sake of her Kingdom. Her obsession (as some might call it) to duty can often get in the way of her finer personality traits, making her look stoic and unimpressed. Both are at least partially true—she’s not easily impressed and believes composure of ones emotion’s is an important thing. And she finds it nearly impossible to smile or laugh or cry when there are things to be done, things of battle and of politics and protection.

The passion she has for her country has been with her throughout almost all of her life. As a young girl she was inspired to the cause of the Royal Knights by her father, who had also been a General of Irea many years ago. He had worked tirelessly to assist the young Kingdom of Irea and is largely responsible many of the current military implements. And Farsine always claimed to see a spark in his eyes, a spark which told her how much meaning the work he was doing gave his life. Due to her devotion Farsine has done a prime job of fulfilling her father’s legacy, she has surpassed many of her age in both position and skill.

Biography & Personality
In the aftermaths of the War of the Hero-Twins and the time since Renais grew as a country. It expanded and flourished to the point where more than a few might call it the Greatest Nation of the current time and with Frelia and Rausten as close allies it made a Golden Alliance. And for this Renais a good King was much needed. King Edmurre was a good man and a good King. Not only did he desire peace and prosperity for Renais, but for all of Magvel as well. He dreamed of a continental Golden Age—a dream he passed to both his children.

Eldys and Laures grew up with many stories to inspire them. They heard stories of long, long ago—stories now made more of myth than of actuality. And they were told stories of their Great-Grandfather, King Ephraim and his battle against Fortimiis. But they also heard often of a world without strife or turmoil, a world in which all of Magvel could improve. For the young Princes’ these stories influenced their later life greatly.

From the stories of war they garnered a desire for strength of combat. In the arts of melee and combat Eldys always proved the superior of the two, much as he did in birth-right. Laures could not help but envy his brother at times. However, he also knew he would have envied Eldys much more if he hadn’t understood the pressures which were placed on the Crown Prince. Despite being second-best Laures never did turn from the path of combat and strategy, knowing there was always a possibility that his skills might prove exceedingly useful someday. In addition to these trainings in war he also employed much of his time into the studies of history and philosophy.

Throughout King Edmurre’s life Laures held military position and directly commanded a force of fair size, nevertheless, it was not until after his father’s passing that Laures was promoted to significant military position. One of the many choices his brother made which he quickly called him out on. After King Edmurre’s passing, Laures could oft been seen disagreeing and arguing with his brother. Prince Laures is said to have cautioned the new King against starting a war and openly differed with the King’s choice after the invasion of Irea. It is rumoured that this open defiance was what caused King Eldys to assign Laures to a position outside the Capital.

Santiago’s Mercenaries

a.k.a. Santiago’s Vanguard or The Desert Vipers
Prior to the year 867 (and since who knows when) the mercenary troop was known as The Desert Vipers a name which nearly everyone found to be impossibly unappealing, yet none ever tried to change. The Desert Vipers is a mercenary group which comes from Jehanna and has been around for longer than anyone can remember, due to the numerous name changes it has had throughout its existence no-one can determine exactly when it got its start. Considering the line of work it belongs to the line-up isn’t the same for very long either. However, the long history of the group is not important. What is important is their recent history.

In 859 at the age of 16 Santiage joined the Desert Vipers. At the time they were kicking up quite a fuss for their talent and he found the life of a mercenary to have a strong lure to it, most notably the sound of coins jingling in a full purse. While he has made claims that there were other reasons for which he chose the road of a hired sword, he’s never backed them up. At the time he couldn’t understand why he’d been accepted into the Desert Vipers as back then they had some of the best aiming to join them. Of course it didn’t take him too long to realize they were playing a quantity and quality game. Not that he couldn’t hold his own in a battle still he was nothing compared to many of the candidates—and he knew it.

When describing his first few battles with the Vipers he details that he mostly flailed around until the end and wouldn’t have made it through if not for the much more talented fighters around him. But Santiago was a quick learner and he knew the major rule of the mercenary game—you have to be good at it to continue. It was his fifth or sixth battle when things first went fervently off-scale. The Vipers suffered their first significant defeat in a long while; this included many deaths and damage to their reputation. For several years after this point the group took more menial jobs while attempting to gather more members. However, three of the members still gave the company a good reputation—The Captain Joren, The Youthful but Dangerous Santiago, and the Young Mage Devonte.

Eventually the group picked up some recognition again and started to recruit more. During 861 they intentionally stayed out of the coup despite several members protests to join a side (or at least accept a contract from one side). By 863 they were beginning to make a bit of a name for themselves again and in 864 they recruited a young girl whom was called Marie by both Commander Joren and Santiago. She would end up to be one of the long lasted members, despite the youth in which she joined.
For a good while things were silent. They took jobs, some members died, some new ones joined.

And then came 847. During this year a particularly nasty feud between two Guilds cultivated into war. Both sides were trying to obtain as many mercenaries as possible and The Vipers ended in the conflict. It was the worst battle which many in the crew and ever experience and the last battle for many others. The Vipers were decimated, leaving only a handful of members still surviving. Even the nearly invulnerable Commander Joren perished. However, those who made it out alive gained a good deal of renown for the battle and were much more sought-after. Santiago especially had done enough slaying to earn himself some fair praise. And praise he did earn, enough that he was charged as the new Commander of the Desert Vipers, which he nearly instantly renamed to Santiago’s Mercenaries or Santiago’s Vanguard, for flashier situations. And when around his comrades as a joke he has been known to call it Vigilante Vanguard Vipers. Despite the name change more than a few people still refer to its previous name.

Currently the group consists of only a few members, surviving in its smallest size at only five members: Commander and Captain Santiago; Devonte, the Spellslinger who’s been with the group longest of all; Marie their talented swordswoman; ______________________; and the newest addition, Itho.

Shouldn't take too long and I'll be working at my computer a lot so I can be on, I just won't have very much time to delve into making my own sheets/finishing up some things I was planning to add to the OOC. Come this weekend though (and the days following) I should have a lot more time to focus on roleplaying and this RP in particular.

1. For the Prince of Hiactance I was planning on making him the Princesses older brother, unless you have objections. Basically, her age would be very helpful in planning his sheet further.

3. Regarding appearances, what did you have in mind? I have a suggestion but I'm not entirely sure I'm crazy enough to suggest it yet.

Alright then. I'm an artist and drawing anime style is definitely what I'm best at. As there will be a lot of characters I would personally find it more tedious for me to search for images as opposed to making them. I'm fairly certain that this is what I'm going to do with my pictures at least (and just use a smaller written description until I've finished). Since I'll probably draw them in the manner of FE portraits (head+upper shoulders/torso) it wouldn't be too hard for me to draw yours as well. ^^ It'd be good practice.

I will. I'm looking forward to seeing them. I already noticed you added in part of a template. While I haven't been writing mine much I have been thinking about them a lot so when the time comes it will be much easier to write them down.

Finally, while thinking about characters last night another slight world issue came up, regarding the countries and their sacred weapons. Obviously Frelia, Renais, and Rausten would have retained all of theirs, no issues. Jehanna would have retained its as well, except possible after the coup - did the heir take one/both or did Avdlan manage to keep both of them. And then there is Grado. During the war Ephraim took the weapons and then they were used, however, after the war there wouldn't have been anyone in Grado for him to give them to.

Maybe Renais kept Grado sacred weapons in their...custody? Something to prove they won the war. Maybe at the time Renais stated they would give them back when Grado proved they could be trusted or something?
Or maybe...just maybe this; an idea I think I prefer. Maybe at the time Eirika, who loved Lyon quite a lot if I recall correctly, decided she'd keep the weapons until she could give them back to a real heir to Grado's throne. Either it'd be an hidden member of Lyon's line, or a hero that arise from Grado at some point in the future. However her statement got lost as time passed and her descendants started to see the weapons as a sort of war trophy, wanting to keep them, which did not help relations between Renais and Grado at all?

As far as as the Jehanna weapons go, I think I'll make my heir take at least one with her. It would be important since, on the day Joshua's mother gave him the weapons, it was a way of entrusting the country to him.

That's actually a pretty good idea. The the only thing would be whether they were kept in Frelia, by Eirika herself, or left in Renais.

If it helps the Jehanna weapons are the Ice Sworld Audhulma and the Anima Tome Excalibur. If she's going to be a myrmidon/swordsmaster then the former would definitely have more use to her. However, the other would have just as much value in significance without making her "overpowered."

Also, I guess the weapons would have been kept in Renais. Even if Eirika eventually lived in Frelia, I think they're place would be in some protected place in Renais.

I was thinking Renais would be best as well.

Also keep in mind when she will ‘join’ the group since that would have an effect on her overall bearing. Also, what were you planning for her setup? Is she just going to be working as a mercenary? Will she be part of a new guild and/or in charge of it? This information would help me a lot in writing out her Captain.

My setup for her as changed a little, actually. Her captain would be the real mercenary leader as far as I thought, which is pretty important for you to know. She would be more of an exile, hiding from Avdlan and his men. The captain of the mercenary group would be the only one knowing her secret, actually, and might be loyal to the old and original lineage of rulers, thus keeping her secret and protecting her.

Also, sorry. It is true I don't always say it when I agree with something...Lol. Sometime I take for granted that if I say nothing it means it is going to be generally considered as accepted. You mentioned you'd draw your characters, and I think that's awesome, but since you said you would not draw mine (Which I find normal considering the fact you can't possibly see them as I imagine them, and I would not ask such a thing of anyone) I did not see it as a proposition, but rather a statement. :P

That does help a lot. Just to make sure I’ve got this correct—He is the commander of a group of mercenaries and she is an exile fleeing from Avdlan, (probably believed dead by the masses). And while she was hiding she (was found by him?) and he recognized her and bearing loyalty to the old line she joined the group? But I just realized a little bit of a flaw of logic. If Avdlan took power ~11 years ago, how old is the claimant and how old was she when she first fled the castle?

I try to never assume anything so that doesn’t work too well in this case. And I was offering to draw your characters for you (I may have accidently made it a negative). With a fair amount of description it wouldn’t be too hard to make an image that matches/resembles what you have in mind, especially if you use reference. So it was a proposition, not a statement.

Ooohhh. I read a negation somewhere int here. So [i]that's[i] why xD. So terribly sorry. I do love to search for images, but it makes things so hard and long when I can't find them. Guess I'd be glad for images. :P I got one up for my Prince, and I actually like it. If I lack any image at all, I'll tell you. It has to be long drawing so many characters. I wouldn't want to make it longer before we start the roleplay impose this on you.

The princess could have been very young when she left the castle, actually. Avdlan himself was rather young when he did his coup, so the princess could have been about 10 years old or so. 11 years later she'd be around 21-22 so that fits. If she was not taken in by the mercenary group right away, I can write her story about how she wandered a homeless girl for a couple of years before she was recognized and taken in by your character. If they have a difference in age, he could be like a father to her. If we want to make things different, she could have met him when they were both young, or in teen years, and instead grew up to become like brother and sister? I actually did not find a picture for this character, so if you feel like it I guess you could draw it? :P
I really love this image, but it doesn't entirely fit the role. If you could reproduce something of the style, especially the armor, I would like it so much. ^^ But it needs red hair, because Joshua's family had red hair x_x If you make no color, we'd both know it's red anyway.

I found the negative and corrected it. But then my internet was too bad to let me tell you that I’d corrected it. Near the end I said would instead of wouldn’t. Sometimes I don’t mind searching for images, but unless the character was created partially off of the image I find the lack of match to drive me nearly crazy. Especially when I have a strong mental image of the character in my mind. Little things tend to bother me much more than they should.

It’s nice to see that you care so much about my wellbeing. :p But I don’t think it will slow down the start of the RP too much. Since I won’t be doing extreme/full body pictures it shouldn’t be too hard. Also because if I focus on the ones who show up early then I can work on the others as the RP goes along. Finally, I will be writing descriptions of my characters until I’ve finished a portrait for them, so if we’re all ready to go except for the images we can just go off of that until I’m done.

I can certainly try and draw it. Aside from the hair colour are there any things you’d like changed/done differently? (The eye will be done more anime-esque). Do you want the hair style the same? Do you want one eye still wrapped? Do you want the armour as closely as I can make it to that or do you want it just based off it? What colour would you like her eyes to be?

I like the picture you chose for Eltshan the prince. Have you played 4/5? Which reminds me, you didn’t answer how old the Princess of Hiactance was going to be (or I don’t remember you answering). Ugh. I just want to work on this and ignore all the important things I need to be working on.

Well I'll be damned since I never realized the picture was of a character already in another game of fire emblem. T_T. Will that be too much of a problem for you to imagine? :x I never played the game he comes from.

About the drawing. Yes, yes and yes. I absolutely love those hair, so definitely if it's possible. :P (Triple yes is just to underscore the importance of the hair.) For the bandage, not really. And the armor can be inspired of, but I like the upper and lower part, having the belly discovered. It's what gives the style, you know?...Like, Mercenary and stuffz.

As for Hiactance princess, good one...I forgot what I mentioned before about her. I was too busy creating my Prince and his two companions. I won't go into much more details than this in Personality when it come to secondaries. I don't think it's necessary since they are going to be unveiled in RP.

No it won’t bother me. It tends to bother me when people use official art/unedited in-game portraits or clone-copies of the character. However, you chose a fan art and in regards to personality they aren’t too much the same. Basically, don’t worry about it.

That’s that then as soon as I’ve got some time I’ll get to mass drawing and writing character sheets.

You said a good deal about her… I was going to copy and paste it here for you; however, it wasn’t in one solid chunk. If you look at the last few posts on the first page of our PM discussions you can see what was said about her, as well as a little on the second page. You mentioned she’d probably be a mage or dragon rider and would be very against the war. She’d want her father to return to how he was and she would probably end up fleeing Hiactance to join Irea. I was going to play her brother. Does that help?

Also, don’t worry about the secondaries, I wasn’t expecting you to write quite as much as you did for the Prince and probably won’t write too much for some of my characters. Although I do have a little problem with the history in his sheet—You mention Renais’ grudge against Grado, however, I think it would be more the other way around, at least at first. As time passed there may have come to be a mutual amount of animosity, but I definitely wouldn’t think it would be one-way from Renais’ perspective. Plus King Eldys’ main reason for invading Irea specifically was that it was close and weaker. He also has an alliance with half the other countries. I hope this makes sense to you and doesn’t throw off anything you had in mind.

As you said, the animosity might be two sided. Buuuuuuuut, in such situation, both parties often blame the other one. The biography of my character, which is written from Irea's point of view, is written with Irean point of view. Of course, in general, they will blame Renais. From a character having Renais point of view, things might not be exactly the same. :P THat is what will create sparkles when two characters meet.

Now I remember that character! I was mixing her up. What I actually said at the time was that she could flee to join Irea, but that she could also stay and be a part of your group so we can have more characters in common. I was not decided yet, but you seemed to have understood it was a given she'd join Irea. Probably because of something I must have wrote. So...yeah, not quite decided yet. It's true that I won't have many characters on your side, so it could be good if I changed that. About her age though...I guess that if she flees, one way or another, she would have to be young. In order to abandon all of your history and responsibilities behind without thinking of the consequences or even what it all really includes, people have to be young. I'd say she would be about 16-17 years old, still acting on emotions before thinking.

I hadn’t thought of it that way. I rarely write my sheets from a specific perspective (except if I’m doing a fanciful biography type of thing). And sparkles? :P But I can agree that sides will blame the other and there will be more than a few bits of propaganda.

Or it could’ve been that I mostly skimmed over that part of our conversation so I missed the ‘undecided’ part. I’m glad you didn’t make her much older, since I was planning on maker her brother the elder but was trying not to cut it too close to their father’s age. If you’d like to play another character on Renais’ side you could always make some generals/mercenaries/etc. serving them, I’ll also suggest Princess Frelia’s younger sibling.

If my character is to run away, what will be the reason for the Prince to follow her? Will he be trying to bring her back, or simply they would share point of views?
