• Only join if you're really dedicated. If you have a lot going on and you might have to quit, please don't join. People leaving a roleplay can make it really difficult to carry on.

Personality: Laura is sweet and kind. She likes animals and children and music and literature. She's funny, but not mean funny. She's charming, but not in a pompous, snobby way. Everyone she meets likes her, she's interesting. But she doubts herself; she's never been cool and she's clumsy, she's just kind of a dork. She doesn't trust or value her own opinions and constantly seeks approval. To everyone else she's great, but to herself she's not even near.
Brief Bio: Laura comes from a big family. She has five other siblings, two older sisters, two younger brothers and one younger sister. She used to look after her younger siblings and she thought that one day she might be a teacher. As she got older, she became more interested in literature, and wanted to be a successful author. She's still working on things, the library job is just until she gets published.
Other: She has a siamese kitten named Radish.

Personality: Adam is a relatively quiet man, though cheerful in disposition. He is more comfortable with his face in a book than with chatting up girls.
Brief Bio: Adam is studying Jewish Studies at the local university. He was raised in a family of five children and is a middle child. His older sisters are both married with children and his youngest siblings are still in high school. He is close to his family and lives with them still, in a basement apartment.

Adam's goal is to become a university professor. He teaches some undergraduate classes as a teaching assistant and loves this work. Despite being quiet in disposition, he has discovered that he does well in front of a group of people.

He has a cat named Sheba and is a doting father. I Love Books.

Personality: Shawn tries to be friendly and polite to people, but due to his deep-seated rage issues, this often proves difficult. He has always had a hair-trigger temper that he never, not once in his life, learned to control. This was always more due to a lack of knowledge on proper social skills, rather than out of genuine malice. He just never quite understood subtle social queues or what is considered acceptable behaviour to other people, meaning that he can often be blissfully unaware of the nature of his actions. A lot of his general rudeness isn't because he's an intentional jerk, but because he never talked to enough people to learn basic social etiquette. When not factoring in his temper, Shawn just proves to be incredibly awkward, lonely, insecure, childish, and one big barrel of self-loathing.

Brief Bio: Shawn's upbringing and home life was positively idyllic -- he grew up in a middle class family in a reasonably sized two-story house in a relatively safe neighbourhood. His parents were more-or-less loving and doting people, and he went to wealthy private school where bullying was rarely a problem. All in all, there was no trauma or abuse that could possibly explain his behaviour -- yet to him, that just makes his rage issues more troubling because he's convinced that he has no-one else to blame but himself. In school, he always instantly shut down any prospect of friendship by accidentally saying or doing say something abrasive or rude, leading to constant isolation. At his younger age, he never quite understood why no-one liked him, any council from his parents or the school all going directly over his head. Thus, he never tried to adjust his behaviour, and was fully convinced that it was somehow other people's fault, never his own. When he actually realized what was wrong in his teenage years, he was far too entrenched in how he acted to actually properly change anything -- it was all unconscious behaviour that he was only barely aware of. After he left home he found that he could never really get any job where he had to work with many people, and after a while searching, settled on being a construction worker, as he was always quite physically fit. He stills fails to make any real friendships and relationships, despite constant attempts, and often goes to the library after or in-between work.

Appearance: Shawn generally gives the impression that appearance is the last thing on his mind. His chestnut brown hair is grown out long past his neck, which he keep tied up in a ponytail with his hair pushed back from his forehead. He has a rather poorly shaven beard as well, with random patches of his chin merely showing signs of stubble while others have obviously just been outright forgotten. He has a triangular face with a wide forehead and a pointed chin, with grey-blue eyes that often seem to stare and wonder around room, with straight eyebrows that always seem to have a slightly irritated frown. At 6 feet tall, he stands up tilted and rather slouched, with a lean, athletic and physically fit body. His clothes are often messy, usually just throwing on the first thing he pulls out from his closet.

Other: Shawn often has a massive problem remembering people's names.

Personality: He is rather reserved for the majority of the time, but when relaxed and more at home, he can be boisterous, fun, and slightly overbearing. He likes to provide cynical and critical humor, sometimes a little dark humor. He still tries to make a person's day. Unfortunately, he usually feels too shy to do so, but when a friend is in need, he'll be ready to boost their mood, lend a helping hand, and give them a boost in a jiffy. He tries to help people out a lot, but can be very rough around the edges, tending to break things he doesn't realize are weaker than he expected. He is not very good with children and tends to avoid them, as they dislike his deep voice anyways. He loves dogs and some cats. He enjoys to hunt and target shoot.

Brief Bio: He came from rather peculiar upbringings, as he was homeschooled and was the second youngest of 11 children. He didn't really amount to much in academics, as his siblings were far more studious than him, but, of all things, he liked playing basketball. He never quite got into watching games on TV, though. He was much more athletic than the rest of his siblings, being able to run fast. He always wanted to do track and field, but never got the chance. Finally, he decided to put his talents into something after he graduated at age 18, and joined the Army as an Active Duty soldier right after. He went into the infantry and began to progress further up the totem pole, as he served four years active, getting one combat tour in Afghanistan that spanned 15 months and allowing him to see a fair share of combat. After he found himself in the Army Reserves, as a Sergeant(E-5) in a Civil Affairs Battalion(still an infantry sergeant, though), he suddenly wanted to return to Active Duty, as his Army reservist civilian life wasn't quite on par with his goals. He is now debating on whether or not to make the switch to active duty or stick with his civilian life and work his way up the totem pole in the civilian world. He goes to the library to keep up a good hobby, as he found himself with too much free time and didn't want to spend all his money drinking at his regular bar.

Other: In a firefight in Kandahar province, he took shrapnel to his right leg from an improvised explosive device and now has a small limp too his step, favoring his left side. The effects of his combat tour are very apparent, as his reflexes are excellent, though he does have the odd habit of forgetting his shoulder width, and smacks into walls as a result.

Personality: Laid back and overall pretty understated. She's kind hearted but that can be overshadowed by her own flirtatiousness which seems to come up every time she meets someone new. It can be a bit overwhelming at times but once you can get past it she can be a real great person to be around.
Brief Bio: Rebecca grew up in a fairly normal family. She lived in a moderate sized apartment in the city with film as heavy influence in her life. This may be mostly due to the fact that her father was an actor. Not really the kind of actor that everyone knows right off the bat, but one of the people that get people to point at him and say "Hey, that was the guy that was in that thing!" Rebecca's mother was more of the income earner in the family, but she wasn't around much because of it. In high school, Rebecca was one of those girls that would go through a ton of boy and girlfriends all the time, it seemed like every week was a new one. It wasn't really that she had commitment issues, it was more to her that high school didn't really seem all that important to her, and that the relationships would probably fade anyway so why not try to have some variety.

After high school she decided to go into film studies, she didn't feel all that comfortable in front of the camera but she did still want to work in the film business, whether that be making or appreciating them. Her relationships slowed down in university as well, while she did have quite a few of them, they were more long lasting and meant more to her, even if she was still flirty to everyone she met. This was also when she started reviewing movies on her blog, it wasn't much but the ad revenue did give her a little more money to work with.
Other: Her music taste is mostly "underground" hip-hop and indie pop. I love books.

Guess I could say my character has worked security in many different places, but got transferred to the mall. He could have met Adam or Rebecca when he worked at one of the colleges that either attended.

And hey, who doesn't go to the mall? Have any characters had a run in with mall security?

Alright then, just to spur everyone else on...
@ Warrior: Mall security? It's possible. Nothing particularly major, but security could have been called on Shawn due to him being particularly belligerent or verbally aggressive. ("Twenty bucks for a goddamn cup?! Are you fucking kidding me?! I'll give you two.") This would probably mean that Shawn is fairly nervous around the man.
@ 4week: Due to her working at the library, he'd probably at least know Laura and have talked to her several times. Although I doubt he'd have made any particularly great impressions on the girl.
As for the rest, again, Shawn rarely makes good first impressions. He'd probably try (and fail) to get along with Rebecca, due to liking her taste in books. How do you think she'd react to him, though?
Probably wouldn't try too talk much to Peter or Adam, due to their reserved nature.
