"So what was wrong? If you don't mind me asking." Said Korlash, tired from staying up to keep Jin at peace. It was enough to worry him what she had nightmares over when she was generally happy. "I know I haven't done enough stupid stuff to warrant you having a nightmare. At least I don't think so." Jin rested on his arm, which made him slightly discomforted, but he dealt with it nonetheless.

It was almost time. The troopz were ready. His spy had done enough work to figure where the elf was. All that was left was to kill him, and slaughter the village he was living in. The mad king walked up to his spy. "Are we quite ready? Are you sure he is located in that village?"

Jin looked up at him, curious. "You have done many, many stupid things. But the... the dream was about... my parents." Her gaze dropped. "The goblin elders told me how they died when I became old enough to sleep in the female beds. What they did not know is that... when I sleep, I remember. I was... a baby. And I was there. And I remember." Her hands shook, very slightly. "It does not happen every time I sleep, which is... nice. Otherwise I would not sleep." She looked back up at him again, and frowned. Reaching up, she touched his cheek, her fingertips gently running over his skin. "You did not sleep. You will not get healthy if you do not sleep. And to sleep, you need a bed." She pointed at his bed. "I do not like it. Too soft. Go to sleep."
The spy was a tall woman, with heavy curves, wearing a green dress that enhanced her feminine assets. She had brown hair in an elegant bun, with delicate looking pins. No one would think she could kill someone with 100 different kinds of poisons, or break a man's neck if she had to. Those who knew her called her Alice, but no one knew her actual name. "Yes, my leige. My contacts near the desert area reported two travelers. One had long ears and killed several men, before he escaped in the direction of the village."

Korlash stood up. "I can't sleep. I'm not all that tired anyways." He grabbed his weapons and strapped them to his belt. It felt good to finally have them strapped to his waist again. He slung Jin up around his back. " Come on. I have something I want to show you. Maybe this will cheer you up." Korlash walked out of the village, deeper into the forest.

When they reached their destination, Korlash dropped Jin off of his back. They had reached a spot in the forest, completely untouched by civilizations. It was a beautiful lake, but it was in a open area. The sun was shining through the vines covering the forest ceiling overhead, bouncing off of the lake to form a rainbow of colors. "So what do you think? I found this when I was younger. I decided to keep it a secret." Korlash dropped down to the ground and laid down.

Jin looked around slowly, her eyes wide with wonder. "Korlash, it is... beautiful..." She smiled, and knelt at the lake. She reached out and trailed her fingers through the water, causing a multicolored ripple. "I like it!" She went and settled beside him, still staring at the water. "You would share such a secret with me? Why? I will not tell, but... why?"

"Well you seemed kind of tense and stressed, so I decided to show you something to help you relax. Soooo here we are." Korlash grabbed some water and washed his face. He laid down and decided to take a nap in the grass, the wind blowing enough to soothe him.
The mad king looked around the barracks. the soldiers were finishing their preparations to fight. The king, Gregor was his name, laughed heartily. He would finally be rid of that annoying pest once and for all. He prepared the troops and put on his armor. The army was small, only a group of 20 or so, because they still needed to guard the city. After all the troops started marching, he hopped on his horse with his spy in tow.

"Oh. Thank you." She settled down in the soft grass, and was soon starting to doze off. Her last thought before truly falling asleep, is that she could get used to calling this place home. As long as Korlash cared, that was enough...
Alice rode behind the king on an elegant horse. She was wearing a less revealing red dress, with fine chainmail underneath. It wouldn't stop a sword, but she wasn't much for an all out battle. In fact, she wasn't much for battle at all. Most of the time, her enemies didn't know what hit them. "So, to reiterate the plan, sire... Your knights are to find a position to hold in, while I play the injured damsel. They will pity me, and take me inside. By nightfall I will poison the border guards, and we will have our way in with limited opposition." She smiled, her ruby painted lips doing nothing to hide the nastiness of the expression. "Do I have all of that correct?"

Korlash awoke to a tongue being all over his face. "Ugh. Jin this better be some sick joke." Korlash looked up and saw a wolf the size of a large horse. It looked friendly and Korlash was confused. Weren't these wolves usually ferocious? No matter. This wolf could come in handy. Korlash tried climbing onto it's back, and in response it knelt down. Korlash then picked up jin, who was still asleep, and put her in his lap. He kicked the wolf into gear and it galloped off back to the village.

When they reached the village, Korlash moved the wolf to the gates to check on the guards. He saw them transfixed on some sight and he craned his head to see what they saw. There was a woman injured. He ran up to her, helping her up. He gasped when he got a good look at the lady in question. It was the mad king's spy. He dropped her to the ground and ran back to the guards. "Run! It's a trap!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. Two men jumped out to either side of him, swinging their swords down. He unsheathed his swords and blocked the strikes, turning his head to yell at the guards again. "Get help! We're under attack!" The king had finally found him.

Jin didn't stir as Korlash picked her up, and was soothed by the ride on wolfback. She didn't start waking until they made it to the gates, and Korlash's scream spurred her body into action without her mind being fully conscious. She dropped off the wolf and into a low crouch, pulling her daggers out. Her mind didn't know what the danger was, until she saw Korlash in the midst of a battle. Were they never going to have any peace?

She didn't have time to think about that now. The guards were fleeing back to the city, and Korlash was fighting alone. She darted forward, and instead of engaging directly in battle, she sped past close to one of Korlash's attackers. She called a touch of wind to speed her steps, and slashed the back of the enemy knight's knee, right at the tendon. A spray of blood told her that her strike had hit home, as the enemy started screaming in pain. His leg buckled, unable to withstand his own weight.

Jin knew she couldn't stop. She made a wide circle and picked up momentum, before striking the next guard high. She sliced a high speed gouge into the side of his neck. Not enough to kill, not from the side, but it would be painful, distracting, and would slow him down with blood loss.

She didn't wait for Korlash to yell at her. Instead she moved away from his fight. There was a woman in a dress on the ground, which confused her. The dress wasn't like the elf women's dresses. "...are you hurt?" She could smell blood on the woman.

"Please... help me." The woman said, her head lowered. "Please help." She reached up and gripped Jin's arm with surprising force, enough to make the girl stagger.

Jin put away her daggers and started to help the woman from the ground. "Yes. I will help. What is your name?"

"My name..." She smiled, and Jin didn't see the predatory look in her eyes. "Is Alice."

"Get off of me!" Yelled Korlash shoving the soldiers away from him. "You wanna see blood? See your own!" He shouted simultaneously impaling them, and making their bodies go limp. He removed his swords from the bodies, staring at the next challengers. 3 men approached him from different spots, cornering him. Before he could make a move, the wolf came in, spinning and striking each of them, chasing after them when they went flying, tearing each throat out one after another. "Good boy!" Korlash said encouragingly, loving his new ally. While his wolf was enjoying his new chew toys, Jin sped past him, flying to the woman on the ground. He ran as fast as he could, cleaving each soldier on his way past. JIN! NO!" He screeched, trying to make it to her.

Jin heard her name being called, and she was trying to help the lady Alice, who was limping, to the direction of the village. She tilted her head, wondering why Korlash sounded so panicked. "What is wrong now..." She muttered under her breath. "I helped him, and he yells. Not even to say thank you very loud." She moved to continue, but Alice's resistance stopped her in her tracks. "Ah!" She looked back in confusion. "Lady, what is wrong?"

"The game is up, child." Alice reached into her hair and removed an elegant looking pin with an eerie green jewel on it. Without warning, she drove the pin into Jin's arm, hard enough to leave it half an inch in the muscle.

Jin screamed, more out of surprise than pain. "AAAGH! What- why-"

"That filthy elf would have ruined the surprise, so I must move things forward." She kneed Jin in the ribs, and the girl coughed as the pain hit.

She didn't know the word for traitor, but she knew that this woman had tricked her for some reason. Pushing through the pain, she sliced at Alice's arm, her dagger going through cloth and the thin mail underneath until it was nearly stick. She brought it back just in time, and Alice shoved her hard to the ground.

"You bitch! You unnatural little whore! You made me bleed!" Alice's eyes were suddenly too wide with a fearsome rage. "...I hope you die soon, because I will make you suffer if we meet next." She fled, clutching her arm and running away with surprising speed.

Jin got to her feet, with her ribs hurting and a gold pin with a clear jewel sticking out of her hand.

Korlash was blinded with fury. He slowly walked towards jin.

"Not so fast!" A knight said, sliding in front of him.

"Out of my way. I have no patience for you pawns." Korlash swiped his sword through the knight's arm cleaving it off, and leaving it a bloosy stump. "Oh. You dropped your weapon. Here." He said picking up the sword the the knight had dropped. He shoved it through the man's chest, moving past him as he dropped. "Jin. Are you alright? Go see the doctor. I'll deal with this mess. This is my fault. Now go on." He looked onward at the lady called alice. He had not known her name before when he met her, but now he had something to curse. "You glorified king's whore! What! Are you afraid to fight? Are you only good for being a weakling? Come fight me!" Korlash was ready to make her pay. He wanted to see the blood run, and it was going to.

Jin scowled, slowly removing the pin from her hand. It left a neat hole, which let forth a small but growing bead of blood on the back of her hand. "Korlash. I am fine. I do not know what she hoped to do with a tiny stick." She frowned at it, squinting slightly. She had only looked for a second , but she was sure that it had looked... different before. Strange. She tucked the pin into her belt, and looked to Korlash. "What is... hoor?" She hadn't heard the word before. "Come. While you yell, your brothers fight." She quickly tore off a bit of the sleeve of her shirt and tied off the tiny wound on her hand. Then she rushed toward the village to help. If she was going to live here, she would have to prove that she would defend this place as her home.

As soon as Jin reached the village, Korlash outstretched his hand and used his new found magic to close of the entrance of the village by twisting trees to cover it. He hoped Jin and the guards could handle the five men that had gotten in. He then turned around and looked at the 7 remaining men facing him on the outside, all looking at him with bloodthirsty looks. He looked around for the king, who seemed to be hiding. Alice off in the distance was still running, trying to escape like a coward. The first two engaged him, closing in with spears.
Gregor circled around, trying to catch Korlash off guard. "I'll have your blood by the end of the battle." He muttered. He looked at the elf, who was being approached by some soldiers. "Have some of this!" He yelled. striking at Korlash with his spear.

Jin found herself in the midst of battle with the elven guards, and the king's knights. The knights had power and plenty of armor. The elves were armored too, but lighter. Jin had no armor at all. She let the elves do the engaging, while she kept moving around the battlefield, keeping the enemy knights off balance with gusts of wind and quick, accurate dagger strikes. THe battle was over quickly, with 3 knights dead, one bound, and the guards all alive. Most of them had taken injuries, but one of them had got a nasty gash on his arm that was bleeding profusely. It took three men to rush him off to the healer's hut. The rest started to cart away the dead men and the captured one, leaving Jin alone.

"Korlash.." Jin rushed back to the village entrance, to find it blocked by weaved branches. She let out a nasty string of swears concerning Korlash's parentage and farm animal excrement, before she saw a gap in the branches. A burst of wind carried her there, and her small body eased her way through the maze of wood, until she landed on her feet on the outside. A small woman in slim leathers made no noise compared to a group of knights, so Korlash's attackers failed to notice her. That was until she drove one of her new daggers through the tiny gap between the man's chestpiece and his helmet, driving it through the man's neck. She hit bone and kept pushing, ignoring the man's screams of pain. The scream was abruptly cut short- and the man dropped to the ground like a discarded puppet.

"What the-" The knights were looking at her in a mixture of rage and confusion. They were probably wondering how a five foot tall string bean of a woman managed to kill an armored man- but they saw her as a threat anyway.

"Come, cowards! Seven men and a pig with a stick against one? You must fear him so! I will be much easier game, yes?" She raised a particular finger at him, one that Korlash said was quite rude in human gestures. Then she ran, a slipstream of wind speeding her steps.

Korlash watched Jin fly through the branches, graceful as a bird. "Why can she never take a hint?" he muttered. He snapped back to reality and barely avoided being impaled by the king's spear. He parried the blow, returning a slash and cutting the coward's spear in half. The horse reared up and tried to escape. Korlash slashed the back legs and laughed as it fell down. The king fell off and scrambled to get up. Korlash walked towards him. Before he could say anything, two knights approached him, rearing for attack. "Have you not learned already?" Korlash muttered. Slashing both knights without a second thought and cutting them down. "Now give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you." Korlash said, towering above the king.
Gregor got down on his knees and groveled at Korlash's feet. "Oh please don't kill me. I have a wife and kids. Haven't you already made enough widows? Please spare me. I'll never ever bother you or your village again. pleeease!" It was the perfect time. while the girl was distracted by the knights, Gregor would quickly kill Korlash and raze the village to the ground, along with the rest of the forest. He pulled a knife out of a sheath hidden on the back of his leg. While Korlash wasn't paying attention, he thrust the dagger towards Korlash, aiming for his chest.

Jin was leading the knights on a merry chase, her laughter teasing. She was coming around for another loop, when she saw Korlash's head turned away from his opponent. The king's body language was tense- he was prepping to strike. "NO YOU DO NOT!" In a split second decision, she reeled back and threw her dagger, putting a sharp current of wind behind it. The dagger flew through the air with the speed of an arrow, and went into the king's fat neck, with the tip poking out the other side.

Jin didn't see her blow land, though. After she released her dagger, she wobbled on her feet and then fell, hard, tumbling several feet as she came to a messy stop on the ground. In the back of her mind, she knew she'd been very warm for a while. But when you fought, your body became warm, so she thought nothing of it. Now she was hot, as if she had spent a day lying naked in the bright sun. Her skin felt dry, and her mouth and throat were painfully parched. "Nngh. Not good." She pushed herself to her feet, still clutching her other new dagger, and started stumbling away from the battle again.

The dagger stuck through the neck and Korlash could feel blood splatter on his legs. He yanked the dagger out of the king's neck and laid him down, allowing him to have final rest. When he saw Jin take a fall he rushed to her side, picking her up. "Away with you!" he shouted to the knights, "Your cause to fight is gone and your king is dead. now leave or I will make sure everyone of you have a screaming death." He looked to jin. "Jin stay with me. you'll be fine." He started walking back towards the village. "Shit, SHIT! I knew this was gonna happen. I should have intervened. I'm such an idiot. I should've seen this. she's going to pay. I'll watch her bleed out into the sand." Korlash approached the village and made the branches recede. "Please take her and see what's wrong." He said to the guards. He walked out of the vllage again and yelled out. "Alice! Your king is dead. Your army is in ruins! Give up this ruse or I will hunt you down and slaughter you myself!"

There was no answer from Alice, who was long gone. Likely on her way back to the kingdom to report what had happened.

Jin managed to clutch at Korlash's shirt, still trying to struggle away. "I am... fine.. I am... just hot." Her lips were rather dry, as if she'd just recently been traipsing the desert for hours on end. She smiled at him, gazing up at him with her dark eyes looking slightly glassy. "Do not worry, my..." Her mouth moved in a silent motion, in confusion. "My brother. I am finn..." Her lie slurred as her head lolled to the side. When Korlash passed her off to the guard, the man would realize that the young woman was burning with fever, her breath labored. He quickly ran her toward the healer's hut, where the main elder healer and all of his available apprentices were working on patching up injured soldiers.

The guard laid Jin down on a nearby cot, and apologized before removing Korlash's large shirt from her body, to check her for injuries and hopefully help cool her skin. He found no obvious injuries, save a few bruises. He saw the wrap on her hand, and cut it free to see where the wound was. What he saw made his jaw fall open.

"E-elder? Healers? Someone needs to look at this..."

Korlash held it in when Jin had been stabbed by alice. He held it in when she fainted. But now he could not hold it in anymore. The girl he had fought for, the girl who had nothing, was possibly going to die. She didn't even deserve it. It was his fault she was involved in this. Korlash burst into tears. "Please Jin. Do not die. Not here. You can't. You're too headstrong to just give in. Please do not give up. fight it." He turned to the guard. "What's wrong? Please tell me it's nothing please just give me some good news. I could really use it right now."

The guard frowned, gesturing to one of the healers. It was a female elf nearly as tall as Korlash, with autumn leaf red hair and freckles. She looked worried, and offered a clean cloth to Korlash after she led him to Jin's cot. "Your... companion. She has been poisoned." She lifted Jin's arm, showing him the hand with the stab wound. The skin on the back of her hand was red and inflamed around the tiny wound, as if it had been a big bite. But unlike a bug bite, there was a darkness radiating outward, Jin's veins showing up black, barely visible underneath her dark skin. The black veins crept up her arm and halfway through her chest. "I believe the poison is keeping her from lowering her body's heat." She chewed her bottom lip in an obvious gesture of worry, the lip already cracked and showing a touch of blood. "Usually the body sweats to cool itself naturally. But she is burning with fever, and yet she is dry. We will work on an antidote, but for now, she must be kept cool." She sighed softly. "The problem is that we cannot keep her in this hut. Fire is needed to boil water, for cleaning wounds and freshening tools. Is there anywhere that you could take her that is very cold?"

Jin, on her cot, turned and mumbled in a semi-conscious state. "K-kor..." Her voice was hoarse, and her lips moved silently as she drifted in and out of an awake state.

"Here." The healer woman picked up a large wooden jug. "This water has been enchanted to be very cold- it is useful for certain healings. It also may save this child's life." She looked down at Jin. "One of the knights said she fought well, defending us as if she was one of us." A faint smile slipped on the woman's face, despite her obvious stress. "She must truly love you to fight so hard."
