Tony Stark was rich. Wildly so. And he had a taste for the finer things in life. So maybe, just maybe, this would be better than her previous studio apartment. She might actually have a full kitchen to work with and a bedroom that didn't have a full view of the bathroom. The young woman had to admit that as scary as it all was, it was also completely exciting. She had no idea who her other new team mates would be but – She suddenly felt very self-conscious. What if they were better than her? For all she knew, they were all trained fighters and hackers and whatnot. In the words of Director Fury himself: “She's just a waitress.” The Council, whoever they were, along with some of the Director's advisers didn't seem very hopeful for her after finding her YouTube channel. She was whimsical – It wasn't a crime! But was she fit to train with Captain America? Seriously; one minute, she's serving him pie and milk only to turn around a second later and be his apprentice. She used to box... But that was ages ago. She hadn't fought in, what – Six years? But the Captain had asked her and she didn't want to disappoint him.

It was all pretty intimidating as she waited for the ding of the elevator. She had been directed to the 93rd floor by a rather out of shape man that insisted that he be called “Happy”. It was a peculiar nickname for a man that didn't look particularly joyous, but perhaps it was on of those ironic nicknames. Like a large man called “Tiny” or a skinny guy called “Fat Joe”. Nonetheless, she thanked him promptly and had made her way to the elevator with her things and her dog. She had a lot of different ideas of what her new home would look like, but she still found her breath stolen when the elevator doors opened to reveal the most elegant room that she had ever seen. The view of the city was gorgeous – But how could it not be when “Avengers Tower” was the tallest building in New York City? [Besides the Empire State Building, of course] She walked out of the elevator before the doors could close, struck into silence by the sheer amount of space from the open floor plan.

She didn't have to ask where anything was besides the rooms and bathrooms – There was a bar and kitchen to her right, a sort of “common area” right in front of her, and every other part of the open space seemed to be work space. There were six sets of stairs that lead up to six doors in a circle like the large room was and she was able to get a good look at them, noticing that they were numbered one through six with various symbols on them – Cap's shield, Thor's hammer, a black widow, Iron Man's arc reactor, a target, and a green “H”. There was an extra door though it bore no symbol; it simply held nameplates like one might find on a teacher's door. She made her way up the stairs that lead to Captain America's room [or so she was assuming], though she turned right where the extra door was between his and Thor's room. Apollo. The code name that S.H.I.E.L.D. had allowed her to take was on one of the nameplates. Smiling, she ran her fingers over it before looking for a handle. None of the doors had handles. Curious, she pressed her hand against the door and jumped back, startled when a small blue pad extended from the door. She looked around, unsure of what to do about it.

She finally came to the conclusion that it was a biometric scanner and placed her hand against it, praying that she didn't set off some alarm. There was a thin blue light that scanned her hand. “Agent Apollo. Avenger Apprentice. Identification verified. Welcome to Avengers Tower Miss Torres..” J.A.R.V.I.S. seemed to have been “woken” when she checked herself in, the door sliding to the left smoothly. The room was...Okay, it was just a short corridor with six doors, three on either side. She moved down the hall until she came to the door with her name on it, grinning at the colorful decorations on it. It slid open without prompting, only furthering her state of awe as it revealed a small room that fit a queen sized bed, a vanity, two doors [one she assumed lead to a bathroom and the other to a closet], and a desk. It was large enough to have her few cherished items – that she wasn't carrying with her – scattered and placed neatly on shelves.

She removed the leash from her pup's [and the term is used lightly because the dog came up to her knees] and smiled as she immediately pounced onto the bed and made herself comfortable. “Happy here, Yum?” Astrid's voice was melodious as she pat the dog's head and glanced over to see her sugar glider's cage sitting on a shelf, the small creature within resting happily. Satisfied, she set her bags down and headed back out, scratching at her arms a bit. “Anybody home? Besides the invisible robut man?”, she called out as she exited her room and stood in the corridor of mostly closed doors.

Nick Templeton was still in awe of his new surroundings. Sure he had lived in New York for almost two years, but when you're living on the run going out and sight seeing was not something that one readily did. It had a way of conflicting with that whole laying low thing so staying out of the public view was usually a good idea. In the last 48 hours Nick had not only received a Presidential Pardon, but he was on his way to live in the Avengers Tower with some new roommates which suited Nick fine because another downside to living on the run; relationships weren't exactly a great idea either.

He had finally gotten to see the Statue of Liberty, been to the top of the Empire State Building, saw that store Macy's that sponsored that Thanksgiving Parade that his family liked so much, and finally got to ride on the Subway. He wanted to go to Coney Island but Director Fury told him some other time. He said that maybe he and Thor could make a day of it since he hadn't been, but there were times it was hard to tell when Director Fury was kidding or not for Nick but when Fury rolled his eye and shook his head Nick knew fury was kidding. He had already met Thor his mentor once and even though he sounded like he should've been with the Knights of The Round Table Nick found Thor to be a really great guy. Thor emphasized the good things that he saw in Nick, and if there was problem that Thor saw in Nick he told him a story that would relate to what Nick was going through which made Nick realize that he was in excellent hands. Nick could hardly sit still not because he was in his first taxi ride, but he was on his way to The Avengers Tower. He felt very under dressed wearing merely a denim blue jacket, a plaid shirt, blue jeans, a pair of boots, and of course a cowboy hat, but one thing Thor told was to be true to who he was. Being a Southern boy was Nick right down to the core,.

The cab stopped in front of the Avengers Tower and the cab driver said, "That'll be 15.40 Gomer." Nick looked at him for a second and shook his head slowly he said, "I have an accent and you think I just came in from the farm don't you? Be careful messing with us Southern boys"

The cab driver said, "Look Gomer I don't care where you came from pay me or I'm holding your luggage until you come up with my money."

Nick replied, "Hold on my wallet is in my suitcase let me get it for you."

The cab driver said, "Oh no I open the trunk you take off. I don't think so."

Nick shook his head and said, "Oh don't worry about that. I'll get my stuff you just wait right there."

Nick got out of the cab and stood behind it. He then slammed his hands through the trunk lid as thought it were tissue paper and ripped upwards. There was a sizable hole in the trunk large enough for Nick to get his bag out. He got his bag out and walked over to the driver's side door to a very visibly shaken driver.

Nick got out his wallet and said, "Now I believe the total was 15.40, and how much you figure I owe for the trunk?"

The driver stared in awe at Nick and said, "Keep it. This one is on me, and the trunk a ummmm a pigeon slammed into it. Don't worry about it young man. Have a nice stay here."

The driver left a trail of rubber as he drove away. Nick said, "Well that was right nice of him. Must've been my Southern charms." Nick smiled and had a good laugh as he made his way to the Avengers Tower. He was greeted by a sizable gentleman as Nick showed him his papers. The gentleman named Happy gave him a key card, told him to have a nice day, and told him he was impressed with the Taxi Cab trunk.

Nick tipped his hat and said, "Thank you sir." He got on the elevator and it felt like it took forever to get to the 93rd floor, and when the elevator doors finally opened Nick was amazed at what he was seeing. His mom once went to Graceland and told him all about it and he knew it would break his mom's heart if she could hear Nick say Graceland was nothing compared to this place. He put his bag down and just looked around until finally he let out a whistle and said, "Look at all this. Oh my."

Nick heard someone call from upstairs and he figured that must be one of his new roommates. He made his way up the stairs and almost tripped twice. When he finally arrived at the top of the stairs he saw a panel that looked like one of those security things S.H.I.E.L.D was famous for. Nick placed his hand there and a light ran over it and a voice said, “Agent Knock-Out Avenger Apprentice. Identification verified. Welcome to Avengers Tower Mr. Templeton.”

As the door slid open Nick said, "We gotta work on that. I hear Mr. Templeton I expect to see my daddy nearby."

Nick carried his bag down the hall and saw a young lady there and said as he approached, "Howdy ma'am oh sorry..." He sat his bag down and took off his hat and said, "I forgot my manners ma'am, Mama would slap me silly for not taking my hat off in the presence of a lady. Name's Nick Templeton ma'am if you'll allow me to get my bag in room I'll be happy to chat with you some more. Excuse me."

Nick grabbed his hat and walked over to a door that read, "Knock Out" which slid open. Nick smiled and walked in his room. He said, "Well this is right nice. Very nice indeed."

He opened up his bag and put his lap top, that Fury gave him, on the desk, then unloaded his clothes, and lastly took out the pocket watch and he opened it up. On one side had his mom and dad on one side, and his sister on the other side which Nick laid next to the lap top. He looked at the pictures and said, "I ain't gonna let you down I promise. I'll make you proud I swear."

Nick exited the room and walked back to the young lady and said, "I apologize for being in such a rush. This is all so new to me. What's your name if you don't mind me asking?"

Duncan had been there most of the morning. He wasn’t the biggest sleeper in the world so as soon as he awoke, he was up and relocating to Avengers Tower. It was definitely a far cry from the Frost estate in Scotland. Before, he lived in a massive country manner with no other company than his butler whom he never used. Now he was in New York, a city that rarely slept and more advanced than most places across the globe. This was his type of place.

“Mr Perfect” was it said on his nameplate, he hated it. In Duncan’s eyes, he was very much far from perfect, not that he wasn’t trying. Every day was just another day to better himself. He ran his fingers across the door and watched as his biometrics were scanned and the door unlocked. There was similar technology at the SHIELD Operations Academy he had attended not too long ago. “Codename: Mister Perfect. Avenger Apprentice. Identification Verified. Welcome to Avengers Tower Mister Frost” A voice came over the tannoy to welcome him. He entered the room and a rare genuine smile crossed his lips as he looked at the personalised room. Nothing fancy in there, a large bed, a shower, a walk in wardrobe, a laptop and wall dedicated to every weapon that Duncan had ever wanted to use or try. He could get used to this.

He glanced at the large mirror on the wall, it was strange for Duncan to be looking at himself in his civilian clothes. He had spent so much time in a trainee uniform that he almost forgot his own style. Throwing his jacket off to the side, he nodded at his reflection. He filled out the dark long sleeve t nicely, his jeans scuffed but styled. After a few more moments of admiration, Duncan placed his iPod om charge in the corner. It was a strange habit, he liked to kill people to a soundtrack.

About an hour later, he heard a few nearby doors open and close but he didn’t bother to move from his own person work bench. People could wait, he was too busy polishing his wrist mounted blades. Then the voices began to ring out and Duncan knew he couldn’t ignore them any longer. With a great sigh he stood up and left the room, descending the stairs next to his Mentor Clint Barton’s room. “Well, this is cozy” He sauntered in. “I guess we’re going to be teammates”

“Oh – Uhm, hi there.” Astrid blinked several times as there was a sudden whirlwind of blond and plaid with a flurry of southern accent before she was left standing alone again. She finally got a good look at the rushed young man, ready to give her name before yet another young man sauntered out. Oh jeez. Was she going to be the only girl on the team? She wrung her hands nervously as she followed them both out of the corridor and down to the main area. “I guess so... Oh – I'm Astrid, by the way. Astrid Torres.” She had quickly turned to answer Nick, mentally chastising herself for not having answered him when he addressed her previously. She was able to get a good look at both of the young men now and wasn't sure if she should feel even more self-conscious or if she should giggle a little. Standing next to them she was obviously the odd-one-out. The runt of the litter. Blondie looked like he just stepped out of a GAC music video while the brunet looked like he should be modeling for Aeropostale or American Eagle.

They were both also very muscular and tall.

She, on the other hand, decided to wear lightly torn daisy dukes [despite the chilly September air], suspenders, a tight white button down, a DC hat that was turned a bit to the side so she could see properly, and Ed Hardy heels. Yeah. Really professional. She fiddled with her lip piercing and suddenly felt like some kind of punk kid taken in to be reformed into a functioning member of society. She didn't really act like a punk – She was a complete sweetheart. But she could be a very outspoken and loved a good prank. She was also aware that she was the only one in the room with tattoos. And as far as she knew none of the other Avengers had tattoos. Yeah. She seriously stood out in this crowd in every way. “So... I'm guessing you guys are like super secret agents...or soldiers, right?”

- - - -

“I'm telling you that these plans are entirely possible. Given enough resources, minds, and time.” Agent Fidel exited the elevator with Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, all three of them seeming to be inspecting 3d holograms of what looked like...a person. The young teenager had been running over ideas with her mentors since the moment she met them and they seemed pleased to no end to have such a young and brilliant mind to work with. Though Tony did take a blow to his ego when the fourteen year old was able to work out a kink in a blueprint that he had been working on for weeks. She had only glanced at it. But it was a bigger boost to know that she practically worshiped him. And not in the creepy way.

“Great – We're all here then.” Steve Rogers' voice boomed out across the foyer as he exited his room, leaning over the rail and looking as though he had been standing there the whole time. Thor, Natasha, and Bart seemed to come out of their rooms one after the other, making their way down to the foyer. Sofia took a stand next to the other three apprentices as the six Avengers stood in front of them, Steve heading them. “I don't think I have to tell you all how special you are to have been chosen for the Avengers Apprentice Initiative. You four were hand picked out of literally hundreds of thousands of others. You're the best at what you do – You've got raw potential that could do the world some good and this world really could use some good.”

As he went on, it wasn't a surprise that most everyone in the room was giggling internally. Not out of disrespect, but simply because everything about him was so plain and old fashioned by modern standards and it was a bit comical. The other Avengers also laughed internally when Thor spoke, so Steve wasn't alone in his outsideness. But he was serious though. He held a kind expression, giving the young people before him a light smile. They gave him hope for the future. He and the others went on to give short, but inspirational, speeches before the sun began to set over the tall buildings outside, casting a purplish glow inside the building. “I know that we didn't really get a chance to talk and answer any questions you might have, but we won't start training until tomorrow night so right now, we've got enough time for chatting.” Natasha was the last to speak, approaching the others in a plain green t-shirt and black jeans.

Astrid couldn't really say that she had any questions to ask. She was just there to follow orders. Normally she was against following humans blindly – You'd think that this particular situation would make her more cautious. But she trusted Steve. The others? She wasn't so sure. Thor seemed pretty trustworthy. But Tony Stark had a reputation, Bart and Natasha were apparently super spy assassins, and she didn't know much about Doctor Banner. Instead of launching into questions, she stood quietly with her hands clasped together. Sofia, however, was quick to jump into interviewing the other mentors. She had a week prior to grill Stark and Banner to get to know them. Thor was her next target. Steve was truly something, really. But Scandinavian deity trumped frozen American icon. “Excuse me – I hope I'm not interrupting.”

That was a lie. She didn't care if she was interrupting. She had an ego as big as Avengers Tower and she was positive that she had far more stimulating conversation to offer the Prince before her than the country bumpkin Thor had apparently taken under his wing. She was actually dying to know why he took Nicholas as an apprentice. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s file on him was relatively fresh but she hadn't been able to get much information on him. While she could keep them from tracing her hacks back to her, they had Tony putting up firewalls specifically meant for her and she didn't have time to come up with new programs as fast as Tony was pumping out his firewalls. She was fourteen. She had homework. And not Algebra I. She had homework in Holographic Engineering.
