So I just got this random message of someone telling on someone for talking crap about my character. The person literally went through each section and said what they hated about each part, down to the markings I gave the character. I didn't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for that person for being so upset about a character.

The character? Or what they said? The person who sent it to me, said it was a joke.

That happens a lot. This is sometimes where it rolls back into; "Is it justified?"

I've literally seen characters that literally say in their profiles and sheets that they are perfect in all ways. Strong, beautiful, this that and the other thing. I will often dub them; "Miss/Mr Perfect" when referencing them. But it's justified in a way because they have basically created a mary/gary sue and it's just stupid.

Then you have people who are just assholes to any given character because they may top their own.

Indeed. Super perfect characters/Mary Sues are not just annoying, but a pain in the ass to deal with. If a Mary Sue/Gary Stu get's accepted by the GM for some incomprehensible reason, I often try to rally the other player's together and take out the Sue (or at least weaken him or her severely). But my attempts are almost always in vain; we all start infighting and get shredded by the Mary Sue republic with relative ease, even when we hold all the advantages! Bloody hell.

I do have a gripe with character assassinations and bastardizations in not just roleplay, but in fanfiction in general. Kakashi isn't a asshole who favors Sasuke, Celestia isn't a evil Despot that lobotomized Derpy, and the cast of Harry Potter aren't 'Goffs.' If you want to show a character in a negative light, say having Harry disliking Ron, then why not have Harry apart of a different house? Have Harry see the more negative aspects to Ron's personality as he was raised differently, instead of having Ron 'go Death Eater' right out of frikkin nowhere.

One more; I'm a bit tired of everyone playing Ultra Liberal Activists straight out of the 1969 (not that there's anything wrong with Woodstock :p). This isn't something pertaining to my personal beliefs; this is more similar to a trend growing stale. That, and I'm not a fan of 'fixing' settings just to fit the RPer's political, religious, or sociological beliefs. Especially when it gets the point where they actively demonize characters and then have their characters start ranting for no reason. This also applies to fanfiction, but I can understand why some people would enjoying playing that character.

That makes no sense. Not even GM get to decide how someone reacts unless it's predetermined and discussed ahead of time. I hate people who try to say how someone should do something or shouldn't.More so, I hate when they get MAD that you call them out on controlling your character.

I once had a guy LITERALLY control my character through an entire conversation without my permission, and when I called him on it, he got defensive. So, I basically told him that if he felt he had the right to play my character, he didn't need me for the RP. In some cases, I try to hint at my annoyance of people controlling my character. For instance, if they SAY he she responds to something they say, even if they are correct at guessing the way I would have had her react (rare), I will make them react completely different, hinting in the post that she did NOT react that way. It's my nice way of going; "Please, don't tell me what my char does..."And I will let it go twice, but if they do it a third time, the hinting even stronger on the second, I call them out.I have had people say; "If I don't, the RP won't get anywhere!"Or you could just fucking leave it open for me to fill in when I post... She is MY character. You don't get to say what she does, how she does it, or what she says unless discussed ahead of time.

Yeah, had that happen once, myself (bolded line). But a simple reminder, and the guy/gal fixed their post, so I could post MY response. Guess I was "lucky".

And yeah, again (underlined)... didn't make any sense, especially since I was using my Nism couple, in which the female, Thoee, was "killed" by a police officer's weapon, but recovered without issue in a matter of seconds. Thought that would be enough of a hint as to why they weren't "properly" cowering in fear, or otherwise "concerned" about their "dire" situation. He simply said he couldn't move the story forward/couldn't write a response of his own if my characters didn't respond in that "proper" way. Have to say, that was really annoying. Major shame, since it was a really fun RP... while it lasted. Guy just couldn't stand any "waves" of individual creativity in his story, from what I could see.

This is what I was sent:

Ryu 17:47
"Angel of Death"
Wow, that title is totally original and NOT AT ALL used everywhere.
Ryu 17:48
"White calligraphy writing all over back."
... What the fuck? Seriously. What the fuck. She has WRITING all over her back? That is stupid as shit, and isn't she an Angel of Death? What the fuck is this writing about?
Ryu: Unlike most, she can remember being human, she remembers growing up 17:48
Ryu: ... What? 17:48
Ryu: ... So, YOU'RE one of the lucky few who gets to be able to being remembered human? 17:48
Ryu: Why? 17:48
Ryu: Why the fuck do YOUR character only get that ability? 17:49
Ryu: What, is she fucking Albert Einstein reincarnated? 17:49
Ryu 17:49
As a death angel her responsibility is to look over your next death to some what be a guardian which is her favorite part, she falls in love with some of them and pities the others.
She falls in love with them... she must be the shittiest "death angel" ever. And let's not forget how stupid death angel sounds.
Ryu: WHY IS SHE THEIR GUARDIAN, AS WELL? 17:50
Ryu: YOU'RE AN ANGEL OF DEATH 17:50
Ryu: YOU DON'T GUARD THEM 17:50
Ryu: Oh my dear fucking word 17:50
Ryu: This is going to go downhill, isn't it? 17:50
Ryu 17:50
Because of her 'angelic' side she was blessed with beauty but due to her shinigami side, she is actually a horrible looking creature.
Oh, cool
Ryu: You're trying to add a tragic backstory

Dose anyone see the joke? Because I don't.

Given I don't know much, it doesn't help. I am not a fan of cliche characters myself. I'm very much against them because I get bored, but to each their own. It's easier to leave the RP than bitch about someone else's char unless you have control.
Going on what it sounds like, he/she just doesn't like the idea of what they feel is 'cliche' and has a lot of contradictions.
I don't know your char or the RP, so, I don't know if it's justified, but sounds like one of those people who, instead of leaving on their own, rather bitch.

Everything is pretty cliche to me, I only pay attention to what someone can come up with with a cliche topic. I just deleted most of the info and kept it to myself.

I believe that is the best thing to do on characters. It's why I refuse profiles.

1 ) It gives away too much. People tend to blurt out EVERYTHING about their character. I'd like to learn it naturally.
2 ) People assume whatever they want by it instead of meeting the character and learning what it really means.
So on and so forth.

I prefer character sheets, as discussed in another thread - it limits the amount of potential bullshit you'll most likely face because there is no real item to keep characters in check. If the RP is done correctly, your character will be learning about it naturally anyway, whether or not you have any knowledge of it.

You should continue doing it how you like. Haha.

For me, sheets are the way to go. I want to know those things, so I know what I'm getting myself involved with. If it's overly cliche', if it's Mary Sue-ish, etc., etc. Otherwise, it's like an RP Blind date, and those can go really good or really bad.

There are very few people I'll go sheetless with, and that's in the Arena, and I know they won't just try and mess me over.

I had an RP buddy once.
Honestly, she was the only partner I RPed with in which the RP got far.

We were RPing all night until she finally said, "I am going to bed, goodnight!"
I just said okay and browsed the guild for a while before returning to our RP to read the entire thing over, and she was still online.

I didn't think much of it and stayed on the forum, checking back every now and then. Two hours later, she was still online. Thought it was weird but I decided to read some 1x1 RPs and what do you know?
She basically ditched my RP to keep up with this one and I ALWAYS see her online, but she refuses to reply. She replies to everyone else except me.

Was it something I said?

Well, I was talking more 1 x 1. It's funner without the character sheets to me. The worst that can happen is I find someone new later.
I believe the GM should see them and be smart enough to keep the characters in check. But I won't be reading everyone's sheets. I'd rather just go for it in RP.

I had an RP where character sheets were required, but only I would see them. The only thing I would post on the thread was the main information; Name, age, image.
Then I'd make the people actually meet them to learn more. No one ever complained because I was a close-watch on what I allowed and didn't.

Well, if it was just in one night, it's not a huge deal. She very may have wanted to go to bed and needed to do a few posts elsewhere first. That's not a sin, and by the time you were posting, she may have gone to bed and it just said she was still online.

If it's going on over a course of days, and she won't respond, it's just a ditch. o-o

One of my biggest gripes is people who aren't attentive enough and end up making a myriad of mistakes when they post. Normally this isn't a problem, once message and the mistakes are cleared up. Though, it's still annoying nonetheless to see you put so much effort into a post, to have most of it get ignored by someone else.

But one instance when I was GMing an RP; a guy made so many mistakes in his post that there was no hope for saving it. Like, it was full of so many errors that it would totally have thrown everyone else out of whack if we went through with it. I told him everything that was wrong with the post in a nice way, but he got mad because he basically had to rewrite the whole post. Even though it was completely his fault for not reading the IC thoroughly enough. It ended when I said that there was no need to be upset, and that he should pay more attention to the IC, and the current events. A more comical example was when someone had a character that had the power to gain information got everything about another character hilariously wrong, or just tacked traits onto them.

Another thing that just makes me soooo annoyed is when people get mad when people don't react to their character's actions the way they thought they would have (Or how they should have reacted, it's ultimately interchangeable). Like, someone's character did something really stupid - if you're wondering, a girl basically stalked a group of gunshy characters when they were going after the main bad guy, then nonchalantly reveals herself to them in a dark and spooky room - and then he started getting super over dramatic when people react negatively to that.
