So Vita, correct me if I'm wrong. Theurgy, at it's most basic, would merely consist of writing down the appropriate symbols/words as well as a magic circle (or is the circle optional depending on what's being written?) on a surface while running your mana through it, and activating it by running your mana through it again.

1. Am I missing anything in that other than the fact that more advanced Theurgy would require more ritual components?
2. Do Ofuda use roughly the same process? I assume so, but it always helps to ask.
3. Can I use any old means of inscribing the inscription so long as it's manual? Like a pencil vs a carving, or blood vs ink.
4. Is the Affinity of "Writing" acceptable? The way I interpreted it would relate to Communication, Contract, and Information, if that helps/clarifies anything.
5. Would it be possible to forgo the most-if-not-all ritual aspects and just improvise Theurgy on the fly? And by that I mean something like inscribing a few runes down on the ground as you're bleeding out in a pool of your own blood, or painting one on your face for a quick boost in vision.

@Grey: That's basically how theurgy works, yes.

1. That's it pretty much.
2. Roughly, yes. Simpler because onmyouji didn't devise the process to compensate for poor quality mana and all, but roughly similar.
3. As long as it's manual it works.
4. Writing is "man-made" and therefore doesn't work.
5. That works, though it wouldn't be as good as a full ritual. Blood would be the most potent in that case.

@Maki, It can be found naturally, not always in large amounts though. So I thought it might be ok! However you might be right, and i'll remove it if you Vita agrees with ya!

You have a point, but in that case, I think your character would not be able to control metals that efficiently if they were smelted and mixed with other type of metals, like steel. I think aluminum and brass are ok, since they are natural, but they are usually found in small scale appliances or musical instruments. I think the metal power largely depends on if its natural or not, though. :/ That's just my take on it. It's hard to find a way to make it work because there is always going to be some hints of natural metal in almost everything, I just don't know to what extent the GM is going to let you control them, really.

Nah, I was more looking for something to support my character's reliance on symbol-based magic. Thanks for suggesting though.

...Might actually go with Henosis, since its aspect of unity/combination governs all the Theurgical combos I'm going to be throwing out... Though I think that would be more like a Magic Trait than an Affinity. Nature might work well, however.

@samreaper: Hmm, the more I think about it the more I think I might need to do a proper write-up of the assassins before proceeding.

@Tyrant: I'm going to clarify, though it's not something wrong with your bio, that just being a homunculus does not make you stronger then a human. There are homunculi who are equal or even physically weaker then a human being.

Now, um, the first thing I notice is mostly that onmyodo is a rather strictly Japanese approach to magic. Basically, the only place there's really onmyouji is in Japan, or rarely in places with a high population of Japanese people outside of Japan(though onmyouji families tend to kind of stay in their home country). It doesn't so much make sense for a western homunculus to use it.

@Maki: Just because it's man-made doesn't mean that magic can't effect it. Magic wouldn't be very useful otherwise. Metals can be effected by magic just as anything else can.

EDIT- OR rather make him use magic like one. I'd like to keep him a homonculi if possible!

You don't have to change his physical strength. I was just saying that homunculi can be all different levels of physical strength depending on what they were made for.

But yeah, magic like a magi works fine, eh-heh.

Would it be possible to have minor Affinity for something like Perseverance? And by minor, I was thinking of using it as a means of lessening the amount of mana that if needed to be drained from someone as a Familiar over much anything else.

I guess i didn't want to put to much emphasis on it because i didn't plan on making my characters' background in the rp too big of a deal so i kinda glazed over it, sorry! I was thinking of it being just an american based company that uses the supernatural to protect others who may be influential, but not strong enough to protect themselves. So they are a buncha supernatural bodyguards 8D is this ok? Should I add a bit of this to the cs as well?
