So basically I had this idea for a roleplay in the Walking Dead universe, set quite some time after the outbreak, which would incorporate some concepts from the Pathfinder TRPG.

Setting:
It has been 3 years since the outbreak. Permanent settlements have begun to crop up across many parts of the US, but they are few and far between, and discord is rife. The roleplay is centered around a group of survivors who have recently come together. Their backstories will be varied; some of them may already know each other, most will not, but I'll leave that to the players to decide amongst themselves.

Characters:
I'd like to say straight off the bat that I would intend to keep the suspense and drama of the source material. In order to do that, as GM, I will be promoting a 'Your character can die at any time' mentality. No-one will have plot armour, especially not my own characters, and we would all go into any situation knowing that a single bite could very well end your character's life. For obvious reasons, that means that this is the sort of roleplay that should only really appeal to people who have a knack for creating new characters on the fly and who won't get too attached to them. The turnover of people in the party will be similar to the Telltale games, with perhaps only two or three people as long-term members, and possibly none of our original characters surviving for the duration. When a player's character dies, they can just make a new one and introduce him/her to the story at an appropriate juncture.

Plot:
The plot is something that will obviously be decided by the players. Their characters will make decisions about what direction they want to go, how they treat the people they meet, what courses of action to take. I will then, similar to any Pathfinder DM, shape the story around the outcome of their choices. I will have no overarching 'goal' for the party to complete, other than of course to survive, but rather react to what the players do. I feel it makes for a more freeform roleplay and also lets you guys spread your wings, fluff your imagination and do stuff that I would never have even considered.

So that's just my basic idea so far. If I get enough interest I'll obviously flesh out the ideas a bit more. In the meantime, feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to come up with answers if I can.

Sarge out!

Sounds fun, and I already have a bunch of character templates drawn up for other zedpoc games I have played.

What city/area of the country/ part of the world would it be set in?

Good question. I was thinking stick to the standard format and have it in the US, but we could easily adapt it to being in the UK or another part of Europe if the players would prefer. For obvious reasons, it makes the most sense to have it be in an area where most of the indigenous population speaks English.

I have to say that this sounds really awesome and I'm all for it! I've never seen a TWG RP that explores any areas in Europe, I don't really mind. I think it would be interesting though!

I like the idea of not having a permanent character, I do get quite bored with a character after awhile! I hope this gets enough interest to go ahead. :)

Well, like I said, I had originally planned to just keep to the standard and have it set in the US, but if enough people wanted to do it in Europe I would be up for that. I'm not the kind of GM who has a 100% vision of exactly what he wants to do and won't allow anyone else to have a say. I'm pretty flexible with most things. The two things I will say is that we will be sticking to the rules of the universe, so the dead will be 'Walkers' or 'The Dead' or whatever else, but not 'zombies', and that I will still be the GM and stick to the standard rule of 'The GM's word is law'. I may be flexible, but that doesn't mean I'm a doormat.

I still like the Idea of the U.S., seeing as most people will be somewhat familiar with it. What does everyone think of New Orleans? It's such a cool city, plus the whole swamp/bayou vibe would be great in a zombie atmosphere.

1 question though. Low, mid, or high casual?

Sounds really cool so far! I also like the New Orleans idea for a setting, but I have a few questions. Will you kill off characters very often or occasionally? I think the "Character can die at any moment" concept is great, but will characters just die and die every few posts or last long enough to give their deaths some meaning/impact? Also, (since you mentioned Telltale) are you planning to make the RP Episodic? Again, I really like the idea overall and I hope to take part in it.

That'd be cool if it was set in New Orleans. I'm all for that setting!

High casual. I'm a reasonable guy, so I'm not expecting people to write six full paragraphs for every post, but I will enforce the usual Casual rules with a few extra ones to up the general quality. I won't accept any players who do not have a firm grasp of the written English language; I'll expect capital letters where they belong, the correct use of speech marks and an introductory post with at least three decent sized paragraphs. Beyond that, I'm pretty easy. I'm certainly not going to kick people from the RP for mis-spelling words or anything like that, though repeat offenders might get a quick PM and a link to an online dictionary.

When I say that a character can die at any moment, I simply mean that none of our characters will have the standard RP plot armour and I won't stand for any "I don't want my character to die, so here's some bullshit reason why he doesn't!" nonsense. It doesn't mean that I'm going to kill off characters left right and centre, but it does mean that, for example, if our party is attacked by a horde of walkers and one character offers to serve as a distraction and lure them away from the rest of the party, and the last time we see him he's wading through a sea of the dead waving his arms and wildly hacking at passing walkers, there's a very high likelihood that it'll be the last time we see that individual alive. The same is true of any situation in which people are put in harm's way. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to kill everyone who gets into that sort of situation. Drama and excitement being what they are, sometimes it's just more awesome if people heroically survive against the odds, so.. watch out for that!

As for enforcing character death, if I feel you've put your character into a dangerous situation and that death should be the result of that situation, I will PM you ahead of time to let you know that death is coming and allow you to plan for it in your posts. I'll be using the PM function a lot in a DM role if I need to pass on information that the rest of the party won't necessarily know about, and then it's up to you to share it or not, e.g. if you were in the thick of fighting a horde of the dead and you lose your weapon I might PM you to let you know that your character was bit on the hand while grappling with a walker. It's then up to the player to choose the character's choice of action, whether he tries to chop off the arm or decides to tell the group he's been bit and offer to kill himself, or even if they decide to hide it for as long as they can and hope for the best.

I hadn't planned to, but I suppose it will be episodic in it's own way. There will be periods of downtime between major plot events, the occasional timeskip if we need to cover a long distance, etc. Again, if enough people want it done a certain way, I'll do it that way, but it wasn't my intention.

Thanks for all the interest and the questions, guys. You've given me some good ideas and some interesting things to think about. Also, it seems that New Orleans is a firm favourite, so I'll go ahead and say.. Yeah, we'll begin the RP in or near New Orleans.

I'm kinda hyped for this, since I'm watching The Walking Dead right now and have played the first Telltale game.

Hey I've watched a good chunk of the Walking Dead.

I'd definitely be interested in this RP. Though I know nothing of the layout of New Orleans :L

If you want to look into it, here is a link to the New Orleans website http://www.neworleansonline.com/tools/transportation/maps.html it's a great resource, it has a brief summary on the notable qualities of each neighborhood, as well as detailed street maps of each neighborhood.

Sounds like we've got a lot of interest, so I'm going to start working on an OOC thread. In the meantime, feel free to keep asking questions and spitballing ideas. I'm open to suggestion!

The OOC is now up!

It's a little sloppy at the moment, but I'll pretty it up later. For now, if you're in a particular rush to post a character sheet, drop it there and I'll have a look.

Although I'd be siked for this... I don't think I'd be able to post that sheer amount regularly :(
I might make a cs still, but I think I'll see everyone else's posting standard before hand. I wouldn't want to slow things down.

A paragraph per post? As I said, that's only three sentences. You technically managed that in the post you just made claiming you wouldn't be able to post that much!
