2537: Eos, Mars

The streets and roads were quiet today. Work and school was cancelled today due to the "special guests" that were arriving to the city. Before they were called terrorists, secessionists, traitors, villains, anything that could paint them as evil to the Martian alliance. Today, the government was forced to brush that aside and invite them to the capital city.

The White House. The building that holds the residence and workplace of all the representatives within the Martian empire. For the first time in decades, members from the outer colonies have requested to return to the white as representatives from their colonies.

"The outer colonies hold a third of the martian population, as well as two thirds of land claimed by the UNSC, we demand the protection we were promised since the colonization." Harold Grant was a thirty two year old, well built black skinned politician. The scar on his cheek was no doubt a result from the secessionist war. He was probably sent to speak as an 'apology' for the secession attempt.

Throughout the hearing, Harold had been pretending to be a patriot, pretending to victim, and pretending to love the politicians in the room. Fortunately, no one noticed his lies. "If the Martian alliance is to ever unite again, it's the responsibility of the central government to provide the necessary tools, equipment, and aid for the outer colonies to defend themselves against the Covenant empire."

Most of his argument made since, but some politicians were still bitter. "And how are we so sure these weapons won't be used against us once the covenant is defeated?" Michelangelo, a tan skinned congressmen, spoke out against the Harold. He said, "The Covenant threat has only destroyed lightly populated planets that didn't even have proper militaries. Our Spartans have proven to be 100% effective against them. So far, the incompetence of the outer colonies are what have gotten them destroyed, the Covenant are not a major threat. Secession movements are the real threat."

Harold wanted to say a lot more to Michelangelo, but he bit his tongue. He had to trick congress, trick them into believing that the outer colonies won't try to secede again.

XXX

The hearing was broadcasted throughout the city. Although the streets were quieter then usual, Dogma was still glad to have the opportunity to see so many sites.

"We don't sell to aliens," The wall-mart manager said to Dogma.

Dogma didn't seem to mind. She smiled under her space suit, "That's alright, I just like looking at your human trinkets!"

The manager shook his head, "You don't understand, aliens aren't allowed in my store."

"I noticed that customer brought a dog inside, aren't dogs technically aliens?"

"Dogs don't count."

"My name is Dogma, does that count?"

"No." The manager said, clearly annoyed by Dogma's attitude.

"You know, technically to me, you're the alien."

"What'd you call me?" Before the manager could call security, Dogma's master stepped in.

He was large, bulky, and humanoid by nature. He wore a suit thicker then Dogma's, but his had a voice changer to make him resemble more human. "Please excuse my padawn," Scourge said to the manager, "She is young, and inexperienced with human culture, we'll be on our way now."

Scourge and Dogma walked out the store. Scourge, as usual, didn't say anything. Dogma asks, "Can we go to the amusement park next? I heard-"

"No." Scourge said calmly. "We are here to observe the hearing of the outer colony debate. We were invited by the Martian government to observe the debate so that we may better understand Martian culture. For the first time in history, earthling diplomats, council ambassadors, and foreign corporate members have been invited to Eos in the hopes to smooth over diplomatic relations with Mars. This is a clear sign that the Mars may need allies against the Covenant empire over the next couple of years. Their isolationist policy will not protect them against this new threat for long."

XXX

XXX

"When human life is under threat, it's the responsibility of humans to protect them. What nation would we be, if we weren't willing to protect our own citizens against aliens?" Harold pleaded to the council, not sure if any of them were listening.

XXX

In outskirts of the White House, a black suited soldier climbs over the walls of the building. Although the White House is named after the American capital building that was destroyed during the great war, the White House is actually a giant obelisk that serves as the command center for the Martian military and intelligence head quarters for the Martian empire. It houses an endless amount of secrets that the public will never know about. It's for this reason exactly, that the soldier is willing to climb five hundred feet to sneak inside.

Armed with the latest stealth technology the Helghast empire can create, the soldier will use the lessened security precautions in order to infilitrate the building.

2537: Eos, Mars

"It's Sub Zero!"

"He's struck again!"

A group of guards rushed through the city streets, heading towards an ally way "we've got that Conduit scum this time!" One of them declared triumphantly. However when they got there, they saw something rather unexpected; an ice ladder leading up to the roof, and a young boy with the bottom of his shoe frozen to the ground, struggling to get free

When the boy saw the guards, he said "quick! He went to the roof! I'll be okay, but you can't let him get away!" Jumping at the urgency in the boy's voice, the guards rushed up the ladder to the roof in search of the fugitive; Sub Zero. Once they were all out of sight, the boy chuckled and the ice on his shoe disappeared "wow...that was too easy. They were either so caught up in the moment, or never even considered the idea that the monstrous Sub Zero could just be a kid." He walked over to a box and pulled out a bag that had been hidden inside "not a bad haul. I manged to get some new clothes. I really need to remember to have a few decent outfits around. Can't let anyone suspect that I'm all on my own. If they knew that I was an orphan, then they'd take me away and might find out that I'm a Conduit, and then..." he shivered "I don't even want to know what happens next. You need to remember to be careful Grey" he said to himself

With his loot sack in hand, he went into a nearby manhole and into the sewer. Once he slid the manhole back into place, he landed and put a thin layer of ice on the nearby ground. Then he jumped up and added a pair of ice made skates to his shoes, and then proceeded to skate to his destination, while freezing the ground in front of him "I wonder if that's why it's so easy; they all think that Sub Zero is an adult, and a scary looking ninja by the sounds of it. So when they see me just walking around, no one thinks anything of it. Hmmmm...if that is true, then I'm going to need to find away to enforce that belief...maybe make people think that I have some...what were they-ah! Plasmids! I should find a way to make people think he has Plasmids. Maybe Augmentations and the force as well. You can have all those at the same time...right? Hmmm, definitely something to look into. Ah, here I am" having arrived at his destination, Grey got rid of the skates and climbed up the ladder into a rundown room; his home. It was the the part of the city that could be called the 'slums'. It was small, but it existed, and Grey had managed to find a room in one of the abandoned buildings that not only had a hole to the sewer in it, but also still had running water and electricity for some reason

"Alright, lets see here" he said to himself as he checked over his loot sack "food...soap...clothes. Yep, looks like I got everything. Good, that should last me for a few days" after putting the food away in the fridge (which looked like it was only barely working), he sat down on the (broken) sofa and turned on the (busted, but still working) TV "I wonder if there's anything good on"

It was odd entering Eos for the first time. It was blatantly obvious to Scourge that humans hated aliens. From the moment he entered the docks, he was welcomed with scornful looks and distasteful comments about his appearance. How unusual, he felt the same way about them.

Scourge stood seven feet tall with a body as thick as a Turian's. It took him two weeks of malnutrition to get to the size that he was in, the Jedi council wouldn't allow him to set foot on Mars unless he'd make himself look more appealing. He felt disgusting. So scrawny, so week, so puny, all for the sake of appealing to these narrow minded humans. Wast of time. Scourge thought to himself. I will find nothing of value here.

Scourge walked the streets of the city slums, praying that something interesting would appear. As though on queue, a little boy sprinted past him with a dozen guards following behind him. "we've got that Conduit scum this time!" Scourge looked over to see the boy ahead, he was small and flimsy, as breakable as a toothpick. A conduit? On Mars? No wonder they're chasing him, the poor boy probably doesn't even know what they'll do to him. After looking towards where the boy was running, the boy creates an ice ladder and tricks the guards into climbing it. Scourge could hear the boy say, "wow...that was too easy."

Scourge smiled deviously under his mask. It seemed he'd finally found something interesting. He didn't notice Dogma watching next to him. "Incredible!" Dogma says. She's such a naive Volus. "Were those Jedi powers? When can I learn to do that?"

Scourge shook his head. "No, he's what humans call 'Conduit.' They're mutated humans that have powers over ice, fire, electricity, or telekenisis. On Earth, they're very common. On Mars, they're considered dangerous." Scourge had done plenty of research before coming to Mars. Although he was confident that his force training could surpass any conduit, he was still impressed after seeing the boy. "Let's go find him, Dogma. If he's running around Mars free, he's an enemy of the state. Perhaps we can send him to an Orphanage through Earth's System's Alliance."

Dogma nodded, hiding her smile underneath her mask.

XXX

Dogma couldn't hold in her excitement for much longer. Her, a Volus, with Jedi powers, about to meet a Conduit! She walked across the streets of the rundown buildings downtown of Eos. It was smelly and the people looked malnourished compared to the peoples near the White House. Must be normal Dogma thought to herself. Following the boy's trail, Dogma couldn't stop thinking about the beautiful architecture that she had seen earlier. Magnificent building meant strictly to impress people, skyscrapers that can watch over the entire planet, police cars the size of tanks patrolling the streets. This alien world amazed her in every way. Eventually, after a few hours of walking, she finally finds the boy that was running away earlier, sitting down and watching t.v. in a rundown shack building off the edge of the street. She knocked on the flimsy door, "Hello?" She asked.

Grey's eyes almost bulged out of his sockets; he had been found. Oh sure, all they had done was just knock on his door and say hello, but that's how they get you! This wasn't even paranoia, he had seen a few Conduit get captured with a similar trick. Well he sure as hell wasn't going to fall for it, no sir. Quickly freezing the door shut, he ran as fast as he could into the sewers to escape. He had no idea what kind of equipment they had, so he wasn't sure how long his ice would hold. Because of that, he opted to play on the safe side and leave all his things behind.

Admits the flurry of panic and terror in his head, there was also sorrow; this place had been his home for close to half of his life. It was his sanctuary, a place where he could be safe, be himself. Now though, it had been compromised. He no longer had a home, no place to retreat to to feel some semblance of safety. Grey felt more alone and vulnerable then he had in years. It was almost enough to make him want to just shrivel up and die...almost.

When he landed on the sewer floor, a sharp pain exploded in his right leg and he crumpled to the ground "GAHHHHHHHH!!!" the shear shock of it let a cry of pain slip out of his mouth. "No...please. I...I just took the medicine yesterday. Not this...not now" tears began to leak from his face "No...I can't let them get me" with his leg refusing to obey him, Grey was forced to try something else; freezing the ground beneath him, he reached out with one hand to grab an icicle that he had just created, and used it to pull himself forward. Although he wasn't making much progress with his body in such pain, he strength seemingly vanished

Johnathan was never given a name growing up. First, he was given a number, then a letter. J-1897 was what he was called. This lasted throughout most of his lifetime until he reached the age of thirteen. At thirteen, he was placed into the lowest rank of Helghast foot soldiers. Among his peers, he promised himself to be the cruelest soldier of them all. He's abandoned men to complete missions, he's used civilians as bait, he's manipulated hostile aliens and rebels to his advantage. Never learning what sympathy or individuality was, he was forced to move up the ranks the only way he knew how to.

Jonathan, the nickname he gave himself, clicked away in the white house computers. He was only forced to kill ten today. Good, the less work required, the more efficiently he was working. He placed his long syringe needle into the computer. He now had three options, extract all the data into his database while wiping out the original content, placing a virus that would shut down all electricity within the capital, or placing a dormant virus that can be used to the Helghast advantage in the distant future. His superiors told him to do whatever was appropriate according to the data that was found. So, he started working with option one.

XXX

Scourge took a view of the White House building. The 1000 foot obelisk reached a height that could easily watch over the entire city. It was no wonder why the Martian government used it as a military and police command center. Even my people couldn't create such a device, Scourge found himself admitting, If only things were different. Looking deeper at the building from the courtyard, he felt his heart drop. It was as though life forces from inside the building were disappearing. A disturbance in the force, as his Jedi colleagues would call it. He knew he had to investigate.

Scourge walked into the building using his Jedi security clearance to allow him entry. He walked the halls heading towards where the sense of misery was the strongest.

XXX

Jonathan finished reading the documents. After copying the final document, he couldn't stop chuckling.

"What's so funny?" Scourge said entering the database room. Although he knew he had to kill this man, he at least wanted to know why.

"Everything. It's the irony mostly." The Helghast soldier admitted. "I thought I would get weapons research here. Locations of military bases, the progress they've made studying Mass Relays. Instead, I found something a thousand times more valuable." The helghan soldier turned his chair to face Scourge. "Do you believe the truth can be a weapon?"

For manipulation, Scourge supposed so. But as a Jedi, he couldn't admit that. "I don't see how," Scourge replied. The soldier throws a computer chip at Scourge. He catches it, "What's this?" Scourge asked.

The soldier replied, "The truth. Look at it, then you tell me what you would do with it." Jonathan lifts up his shirt. Underneath his clothes, dozens of energized bombs were sewed into his skin. He presses a button on it, initializing a countdown.

XXX

Scourge jumps out of the window and takes a fifty feet fall into the ground. The explosion that bursted in the building was large and powerful enough to be heard from miles. Although the building still remained in tack, security forces were swarming inside the building from all directions.

"I'm confused, is harming oneself a part of Martian customs?" Dogma looked at Grey from the distant sewer darkness. Her eyes glowed at him, shining a light in his eyes. "Because that to me seems like a very inefficient custom." The boy looked crippled to her. His leg was clearly broken, but he still used his strength and power to try and walk. "Here," Dogma said extending her arm, "This is Omni-Gel. It will heal you."

She walks closer to the boy. As she does, her suit's ear-piece speaks. "Dogma." Scourge said from the communicator, "Ignore the news. Destroy your communicator and go into hiding. The White House has been attacked. Foreigners everywhere, aliens like us, are being arrested and taken into questioning. I have something very valuable that I must not lose. Leave the city or planet if you have to, just don't come looking for me. If you get follow me, I'll be risked getting compromised. Good luck Padawan, we may not meet again."

And the communicator cut off. To be honest, Dogma wasn't worried about Scourget, she was more concerned about the boy in front of her. "Are you alright human?" She asked.

Grey's eyes were leaking tears 'so this is the end, huh? Well, I guess I had a nice run.' Holding his hand out, he formed a dagger of ice "I don't know who you are, or how much the government is paying you to do this, but I don't care. They thought they could fool me by sending someone who wasn't a human after me, that I wouldn't suspect them? Ha! I've seen them use that trick before! It's not going to work on me! So for your sake, I hope that they are fine with my corpse, because they aren't getting anything else! I'd rather die then be turned into one of their lab rats, or brainwashed into becoming one of their disposable soldiers! So there's no way that I'm going to let you take me alive!"

Grey gripped his ice dagger tightly "you, are never-" and put it at his throat "-taking me alive." He dug into this skin just deep enough to draw blood "don't think I won't do it; I've been prepared for this day for a long time."
