Mirroring Worlds, Reflecting Possibilities

An OOC for myself, FernStone and Chezka. (May accept others later)

3-4 paragraphs per role. Doubling as characters from 19-29 years old.

This is our first collection of thoughts and bits. And now we have a better thread to stretch and throw down ideas, pictures, concepts, plots, etc

We know we want three different worlds:

Present 2014 - Earth

Male - FernStone - Keir - link
Female - Chezka - Emmy - link

Fantasy Medieval - Thera

Male - Chezka - Cyrill - link
Female - Genkai - Phaylin - link

Future Cyberpunk Science Fiction - Rathe

Male - Genkai - Nax - link
Female - FernStone - Synnove - url

We also have the concept of a "mother" mirror for each world that shattered and as such, shards are falling into the hands of people who believed their world was alone, that they were alone, that other worlds only existed in the imagination. But seeing other worlds in their shard, gives them hope and possibly fear that they aren't alone and that magic and mystery are very real and very powerful. There is also a prophecy that was given to the worlds. Earth got it wrong and thought that separating was for the best, and did just that. Rathe got it all right, knowing they needed to remain connected. And Thera only understood that something big was coming and as such, have been preparing for it. They remained connected to Rathe a while after Earth broke the connection but now all three are on their own.

In terms of characters, we will double as a male and female. We're still discussing if we want them to be similar (not related but share some kind of visible trait?) while also having different personalities.

...

Now ahem getting back to chit chatting, FS, you brought the question of "Will a gun work in another world?" And I would suppose for the sake of simplicity, no? I mean mechanics probably work different in the fantasy world as they would in the sci-fi world Should we assume that laws of physics or even just natural resources would be allowed in their own world but not through the mirror? I'm not sure if that makes sense? I mean if some high tech laser is brought into either (other) world, without the proper structure in the new world, it would just disintegrate without proper materials existing to support it?

Just a thought that would cut down a lot of crazy mixing of tech. I assume some baddies would want to make something that all three worlds could use/have in common. I'm sure there's some element that each world has and could then make weapons out of whatever it is? I just figured a limit would be easier than to have the magic or sci-fi world overpower say ours? But then again we have nukes...

But...I wouldn't want the focus to be on weapons so I'd rather not have a huge fiasco with bringing them from one world to another, I guess the same goes for say, cell phones and the like?

Or what do you guys think?

Yeah, I would agree with no I think. And no, it makes sense - I understand what you mean. It does make a lot of sense really as the weapon or whatever other item just cannot exist in that other world, I guess?

Maybe part of it is that there is a way to get it so you can bring technology/magic from one world to another, and that's what the 'bad' guys are trying to work out (as one of many things)? I don't know, maybe that wouldn't work... Crazy mixing of tech would be crazy. And yes, I think the same thing would go for cell phones. Although you just wouldn't get signal in the fantasy world if one survived the journey. Although some things would obviously survive the journey (clothes, for one, I would hoped)

I don't wanna make things too complicated. I think essential things like cell phones, clothes, food, would probably be okay from one world to another. But maybe rather than weapons just vaporizing in a new world, maybe they are just broken? I'm not really sure how we should categorize things and rules.

No, if we made things to complicated we would lose track of what was what. I agree with the essential things - things that won't throw the world out of balance. With weapons we can even just make them not work? So if they return to the world that they came from, whatever it is works again. Although I'm also not sure about categorising and this may just be making things quite complicated

I'm currently on mobile, so I'll just add some quick response. I'll make more sense when I'm back on my computer, haha.

So I think the difference in technology would only really be an issue in the medieval fantasy world, but since it is a world wherein magic (possibly) exists, it shouldn't be too farfetched to believe modern/futuristic technology just don't work. Maybe there's magical particles in the air that interfere with them? Or a barrier around the entire world that prevents them from working? It might get difficult to be consistent if all resources from other worlds aren't allowed to exist/just get vaporized in a new world, like you said.

EDIT:
As for what the baddies can do, we could go classic route and maybe have gems/orbs/any sort of power source/parts of the weapon scattered all over the different worlds, so no one person can use a powerful weapon. Of course, the baddies will want all three of them, so they travel between worlds to get their hands on them.

Yeah, that would certainly work. It would certainly be complicated with the not existing/vaporising thing. We'd have to keep track of it and it would probably just not work.

That could certainly work - so they are not only searching for the parts of the mirror but also this extra thing that they can use. I don't really have much to add to that, my brain's a bit dead at the moment.

We should probably think about the actual worlds - our definition of Fantasy and also the Cyberpunk Sci Fi one. Also naming of the worlds! That will be fun.

Yeah maybe just have them "not work" rather than vaporize. *nods* It shouldn't be an issue or focus then.

Well the fantasy world would certainly have magic but probably a low form of it? Like potions or runes or something? I assume the "magic" in the sci-fi world would be more like magic + math/science and as such would be more like energy or laser oriented? And in the modern world, would none exist at all? Maybe that's where the two are destined to converge or something? What if we had some sort of prophecy that originated in the modern world and got passed along from the 1700s to present but having been published somewhere random to hide it, no one's thought much about the idea of three worlds colliding.

But say the prophecy got a little mixed up in the other two worlds?

I'm rambling randomly. Sorry.

Or what if the worlds once got along but back in the day had some war which maybe broke the mirrors so maybe the concept wouldn't be totally "fresh" and weird....?

I'm probably not making much sense. >___>

Yeah, I think a low form of magic would be good - with there possibly being a rare few with the traditional 'wizard' magic (maybe two in the entire world or something) but its mostly potions, or through the use of runes or something similar which is obviously time consuming? And takes years to learn. And yeah, sci-fi would definitely be much more sciencey magic than anything - not believed to be magic at all, but instead technology. But yeah definitely energy orientated (lasers are pretty much energy so I guess they'd probably fall under that). Modern world none I think, unless we want to add a slight amount. Maybe.

I kind of get what you're saying about the prophecy xD Basically one that tells of the three worlds... It's hard for me to say anything without using collided. I sort of get it. Although by collided are we going for literal the worlds mash into one or people mixing from one to the other and the possibility of easy travel or something?

That also makes sense and is quite an interesting idea - the idea of another world is not foreign but is more a myth/legend that grandparents talk about but is passed off as nothing but make believe stories?

It's making some sense xP I sort of get most of it I think

That post was made in a bit of a hurry. Sorry again...

I think limiting the magic could be interesting in the fantasy world (still needs a name haha). Granted if it's too limited and our characters can use it, it almost comes off a bit "mary sue" like. If potion making was common but maybe using runes or studying them wasn't as much, do you think that could work? And I say potions but it could also mean simple things like mixing herbs, purifying things, etc. I'm not assuming potions give a user powers, but perhaps they're more of the healing sort where maybe runes give people the "power" needed with elements? Something basic and structured like that?

Yeah, science's idea of magic would surely be logical and tech related.

*nods*

I think what I meant to say was that one or two worlds may know about another but not all three?

Or if we wanted to use a prophecy, maybe it was etched in the mirrors and putting them together might fulfill it or something?

Or maybe the broken mirrors were only how transporting worked? Like maybe...the mirrors were designed to keep the worlds from being invaded and when they were broken, the boundaries were lifted? I dunno.

Again, I'm spit ballin' here. XD

It's fine!

Psh, names xD I definitely agree with the possibly dangers of mary sue characters if its limited... However I do like the potion making being common and the runes not being so much. Then one of the characters can possibly be studying runes, or know a few, but overall less danger and also more limited magic rather than common, powerful magic. And I think potions being the healing type, with maybe other minor qualities, would also be good. Then the runes are definitely more powerful and needed as you can't just make a potion to be able to do something. So yup, I personally think that would work.

Very logical I think. And having explanations for the science behind everything rather than 'its just magic' and the like

That would certainly be interesting, making it a shock for some but not so much for others... I certainly think its a good idea. We'd need to decide which worlds know and which don't if we do this...

Yeah, that could work... Though thinking up prophecies is so difficult xD My skill at that is no better than when I was a young child with all the stupidly obvious prophecies

That's another idea, though when you say boundaries were lifted...? As in suddenly there are portal everywhere or suddenly the mirror fragments can be used for transport? I may just not be getting this one

Well, they're good ideas xD My replies are kind of; yup, awesome, interesting, good, I like them all but I can't decide which I like best. Today is an indecisive day (like every other isn't)

Fantasy World:
I think, so long as magic is widespread in the world in that everyone can use it (basically, our characters aren't the only special ones that can) but only if they work for it, we wouldn't have to worry about verging in mary sue territory. Sticking with runes and potions seems like it would work, as well. But how do we go about using runes? Like, will we stick to using magic wands to draw runes correlating to a spell? Or will we use incantations?

Sci-fi World:
For this, I imagine magic and science is one and the same. How do we want this world to be though? Sort of sleek with technology integrated within the world, like Xandar in Guardians of the Galaxy, if you guys have seen it. Or more dark and gritty cyberpunk like this.

Modern World:
I think we could maybe integrate the prophecy and warring worlds idea together. So waaay back when, travel between world wasn't unheard of. In fact, it was a common thing to do. But then something happens, and the three worlds sort of start becoming hostile, and their conflicts just slowly develop into all-out war. As a last resort, they decide to break the mirror—which is the only means of world transportation—and from then on, each world was on their own.

As for the prophecy, it could be one that forewarns a threat to all three worlds. So it'll basically be saying the three worlds need to unite and band against this super big bad, or they'll all die. But it's been centuries, millennia, and nothing has happened. The prophecy's become like a fairy tale in the modern worlds. People know about it, but they all think it's just a story.

I do agree that it could be interesting if prophecy gets mixed up in the other worlds. Like, in the fantasy world, it becomes twisted into like a day of reckoning sort of thing. They think when the prophecy happens, it'll be the end of the world for them for some reason, so they're hell bent on disrupting it and making sure it never becomes fulfilled.

I do have a small collection of setting images we could sift through, it's a little old but I think the link should work, if you wanted to poke around:

link

Fantasy World:

It would be cool if somehow potions and runes could do something together. I think we can do without wands, maybe they're just voice activated or maybe use someone's engery/chi so it could hint a little at whatever the Sci-fi World is doing? I would assume any runes found would generally have one of four images? Fire, water, air and/or rock?

Sci-fi World:

I think it could be possible to have both sleek and gritty come into play.

I think we'd have to figure out what tech we'd want and what we wouldn't. In terms of what I could do without: robots. I think robotic technology would be useful but for a robot with human knowledge would be too much for me. And it might be superfluous. I do like the idea of say hover boards, perhaps light teleportation in the works, laser tech within reason, etc.

Modern World:

That would be good, to have people back in the day (era up in air?) communicating with the other worlds and maybe the Modern world severs ties with the other two (which could be in longer communication with one another, probably creating some kind of prejudice against the modern folk?) which is why the modern world became so slow with developing advances in either magic or science?

Misc:

Oh, I meant the mirrors allowed anyone to transport and when the big disagreement happened, the fragments lost the power to bring people to the world but allowed people to somehow leave it? Like maybe a one way connection? So maybe one world has a purple colored mirror and the others have a blue or pink? That would only be needed if we wanted the mirrors to work slightly different though, if we still assume that broken, they work one way and that shards can't be mixed up to form someone else's mirror if pieces are missing. Or something. >_>

I think a prophecy warning the worlds to stay together is probably the most simple route we can take and I'm happy with it.

If it got mixed up (on accident or perhaps someone intended it to?) we could give the Modern world a slip up and have it imply that they need to break away from the other two? Hence when arguments began? If we gave the Fantasy world some kind of darker meaning, that could be rather fun which could in turn make the people start to focus more on their magic? Maybe the Sci-fi is the only one that got it right and is trying to act as mediator while wondering if they should bother fixing the broken pact between the three?

Those are a lot of setting pictures O.o Will take a while to shift through xD

Fantasy World:
Something together would be cool! *thinks* No wands, no... The energy/chi would be interesting - especially if it was their own, then they can only 'draw'/use so many. Or we could do something similar to Aons in Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (doubt you've read it but...) where basically they're drawn in the air and kind of hang their, doing whatever effect. But energy/chi would be cool. Yeah I think those four images would be cool - the classical elements (I would say earth instead of rock but that's just me).

Sci-fi World:
I agree with sleek and gritty ;) (BTW Guardians of the Galaxy is amazing)

Yeah, no robots. I mean I know its in a lot of sci-fi but it just goes against everything I know about AI... I mean obviously its not in the modern world but still. I think maybe technological body parts, though? Like if someone loses a hand they can get a new one that works like a normal one. Hover boards are cool (as long as we don't go too down the Back to the Future 2 route xP) and limited teleportation - either it only teleports short distances or there are certain stations and it takes up a lot of space so it isn't widely available and limited as to where you can go? Definitely laser tech... Cool computers? I mean any computers in that world are going to be super fast with super high RAM. I think there should be 3D computers... Okay, sorry. Going off topic a bit. Computers aren't important really.

Modern World:
All sounds good when it comes to the mirror. I should add to it, but my brain is a bit dead at the moment. Apologies.

Yeah I agree with that kind of prophecy, sounds simple enough. Anything more might just get a little bit confusing and hard to keep track of.

I like the idea of it getting messed up in both the modern and fantasy world, in different ways, and the sci-fi world getting it right. It would certainly be interesting for when the pairs meet and the possibility of characters becoming more 'evil' per se/ becoming anti-heroes. Yeah sounds like a brilliant idea

(I'm sorry I'm being terrible and contributing, I'm trying honestly I'm just tired at the moment and its one of my down moments mentally)

Lovely pictures! I think we could use a lot of those.

Fantasy World:

Maybe runes could be used when brewing potions? Like, say you brew a potion that heals your wounds. If you were to use a fire rune on it, then it would not only heal you but give you a boost in energy. Or maybe even make you fireproof for a minute. I'm okay with four basic runes, though I imagine we could mix and match, so to speak.

Sci-fi World:

Yes, I loved GotG, too! <3

No robots is fine, though I think AI would still be a big part of the world. Hoverboards, aircrafts, and the likes are fun, and I think we would have holographic interfaces too. Like this!

Modern World:

If the sci-fi world and fantasy world were still contact with each other, what could be the reason the fantasy world hasn't progressed with their technology? Would it be because they have no need for it?

Misc:

I like the idea of having the three different worlds pursue completely different goals. Makes for a lot of conflict. So if we were to go with that:

Modern World somehow gets the prophecy backwards, and believes that it called for the three worlds to divide instead of to unite. Fantasy World gets only half of the prophecy—the part that warns about something really bad happening—so they prepare for that. They don't know that staying with the others worlds is the only way to stay safe. Then we have the Sci-fi world, the only one that got the whole prophecy down. They've been doing everything they could to reunite the three worlds (maybe that's why they have such advanced technology? They've been trying to build a new method of communication/transportation between the worlds).

Also, any ideas for names yet? :D

GotG is pretty epic. I've seen it twice. :3 *waves hand*

Fantasy World:

Yeah I like the idea of runes aiding in potion making, maybe making them better or even worse, I'm sure there are dangers in doing such work.

Sci-fi World:

Yes! That's the word I was thinking of, holographic stuff would be badass! Short range teleportation would also be good, I didn't have anything too wild in mind with that so works for me. And yeah, cybertech for limbs would work, granted we could say things are still new in the realm of medical and tech linking together.

Modern World:

Should we assume we're doing this in 2014-15 ish?

Misc:

I was thinking we could do. something with the names all being rearrangements of "Earth?" unless anyone had any other ideas?

There'd be Earth. Thera, and Rathe? Maybe Thera could be the fantasy one and Rathe could be the sci-fi one?

I dunno.

And yeah I do like the idea, Chezka. That way each world would have it's own philosophy in terms of living and what not. In terms of ages, I was hoping we'd play generally people around 20-30s? I think teens are kind of bland and limit experience and plot. I was also figuring in terms of typical posts, we'd be able to give each character 3-4 paragraphs or are you hoping for 2-3 instead...?

And don't feel bad Fernstone. :3 I don't feel like you're slacking or anything.

I saw it twice too! *dances* Second time in imax, which was awesome

Fantasy World:

Runes aiding potion making would be cool. And I can imagine they'd have to be careful, for example some ingredients wouldn't mix with some aspects and could cause explosions (especially if fire is involved) so only the most skilled use runes to tamper with potions?

Sci-fi:

AI yay! xD Gotta love some AI... I have slight rudimentary knowledge about AI. But yes, holographic stuff would be so cool and fun! Communication would be very easy and the like. And yeah short-range teleportation works, probably quite rare though as its still being worked on? Definitely still new... So most of the people with them are almost test subjects to check if they work? So malfunctions and stuff. Though it could be interesting if someone with a cybertech limb went to one of the other worlds and it just stopped working

Modern World:

2014-15 would definitely work, I think, as it doesn't really involve much research and just makes things simpler.

Misc:

Sounds good! No ideas from me (I'm just waiting for that spark of inspiration to come)

I quite like Earth, Thera and Rathe. The sound quite cool and actually I don't seem like rearrangements of earth at first glance. I like them.

I like the idea two. And 20-30s works for me! I mean definitely good in terms of experience and gives so much more options for skills of characters and the like. Only so much a teenager knows really. And 3-4 paragraphs per character is fine for me, I should be able to do that for two characters. Any more and maybe it'd need to be slightly shorter but that suits me!

Ah, good... I sometimes feel like I'm slacking but I try you know :)

Modern World:

Present time it is. Like Fern said, we don't need to complicate this world.

Misc:
The Earth anagrams thing is pretty clever! Haha, I love it. I don't know why, but it fits really well.

The 20-30s is also fine by me, although I might shoot for the lower range because I don't know how well I'd play someone over 25. And I can make do with whatever post limit you guys want. 3-4 paragraphs is perfectly fine.

I feel like we're about ready to start! :D So what else is there for us to decide on?

Modern World:

Yeah, not complicating everything is good

Misc:

I'll probably be in the lower range of 20-30s as well, though I'll see what characters I come up with

We need to decide who has characters in what worlds, right? Like the pairs...

Fantasy World:

Seems we're settled here for now, nothing to discuss.

Sci-fi World:

Same as above I think.^

Modern World:

And as above too!

Misc:

I think we have a good general concept we're happy with now. I think we're on pretty much the same page so if anyone ever embellishes a concept in a post, it shouldn't be a stretch to assume the others could go along with it. I think our judgement and comfort with most things is pretty similar that if someone makes details about a concept in a world, it would be safe to let us have fun with it, granted we're consistent. You know? I think the basics are good and now I think we can let the posts speak for themselves in terms of tech and vision and mood.

Roles:

If we want an age range of say 19-29, that could work. I just shy away from young roles and to me anyone with "teen" in their age is pretty young and as such, tends to lack development and range.

I think we could make our own CS, as I assume each world would have different requirements for important information.

Should we assume our roles initially will be FROM their respective world and soon possess a mirror shard or two? I'd hate to assume we're jumping in after they're in a new world and all...

Personally I'd be fine with whichever world but I think I'm eyeing Thera and Rathe the most. Maybe a male from Rathe and a female from Thera? Again, it could be the other way around...and I'll edit the first post with what we've settled upon.

Misc:
Agreed!

Roles:
That age range is perfectly fine, and I have no problems with making our own CS either. :D

I think it would be best to start from their own world; otherwise, it might get complicated trying to keep consistent.

As for roles, I was thinking Thera and Earth, although I've yet to decide which gender's which.
