A First Contact Sci-Fi RP

So I had a amazing idea idea for a RP. It would be focused in the far future where Earth has been united utopia blah blah space exploration blah blah blah.

Anyways before I work out a more solid plan I like to see if anyone would be interested in this type of RP. The basic idea is you are among a ship of about 2000 colonists, heading to a newly discovered world. However you arrive to learn that that world is already inhabited, and not just by alien plants and animals, by actual civilized aliens.

I will begin working something out a bit more solid if this there is enough interest in a RP of this type.

Duck and I are currently debating on what the native species should be. He wants reptilians, I'm personally rooting for blue skinned mammals (of course) which are related to humans in accordance with the Panspermia Theory. We have, however, agreed that the aliens are atomic era and engaged in a conflict over multiple resource rich nations that produce the fuel needed to run their global infrastructure. We've mostly agreed on the idea that it is a new element, but I'm personally toying with the idea of it being oil, mainly because I like to drop anvils. We also came up with the idea of there being an ideological conflict akin to the Cold War, but we haven't decided if we want that or not.

Also, if my vote counts for anything I think the Panspermia Theory idea is more interesting, but I like this RP either way.

I'm interested. I am curious though if you could have a character of an alien species. Perhaps someone else new to colonization

If you want to have a character that's of the native aliens yeah im going to allow it, although people who can be aliens is going to be limited to two people, or else everyone will choose them.

I'm gonna have to restrict you to playing as the natives or the colonists, does not fit in with my overall plan for the RP.
Oh and im going to begin working out the OP, since this has attracted enough interest.

How diverse is the intelligent life? Is is a single species like humans or is it two or three competing species vying for more control?
