Botan recalled the mission Lord Koenma had just given her. She was given the painful task of evaluating Hiei, Kuwabara and Kurama for full positions as Spirit Detectives. She was also tasked with warding off low level riffraff that had gotten through to the Human World. Botan was determined to prove her usefulness to the tiny ruler. Ever since the Dark Tournament wrapped up, Botan felt utterly useless, sure she wasn't much help in securing Team Urameshi's victory but she felt she did help somewhat. She just didn't want to fiddle with the opportunity she was given now. Lord Koenma made it clear that she had to be discrete with her evaluations and so she decided the easiest person would be Kurama, otherwise known as Shuichi.

At the present, Botan was finishing up a last minute conversation with Lord Koenma.

He had given her the Communication Mirror as well as the Demon Compass and Concentration Ring. They were all given to Yusuke when he was first starting to get the hang of being a Spirit Detective but these were new and improved upgrades for the reaper to use while undercover on Earth. As she slipped the compact into her messenger bag, she found herself suddenly anxious. With the sun rising over the urban landscape, school was about to start and she still needed to figure out where she was even going. Botan would pose as a female foreign exchange student from China under her real name. Before she left, she had been given some basic supplies, such as the uniform and some money, just in case.

It was one thing to pose at Yusuke's school but Kurama was older and in a more intelligent high school. Botan would be lying if she said she wasn't intimidated. On top of that, she and Kurama hadn't spent much time alone together, despite all the danger they've endured. Still, the blue haired reaper was determined to prove herself, not just to her boss but also those around her, like Kurama. There was more to her than a pretty face, that's for sure! The female glanced down at her uniform, missing the baby blue and yellow one already. She had on a long sleeve blouse which buttoned up slightly off to the side. She also had on a pleated skirt which was the same color, magenta. And there was gold grim around the back of her shirt where the small flap was.

She had on long white knee socks and brown loafers. Botan kept her hair tied up as usual in a golden tie. She would fit right in, except for her hair color but she hoped it would be overlooked since she was an exchange student. She was only a block from the school but still wasn't sure about which classroom to go to. Without her oar to rely upon, she had to make due with her own two feet. Adjusting her messenger bag over her shoulder, she took a deep breath and jogged up the block and made it into the building as the bell rang. Everyone was filtering into their respective classrooms and Botan feverishly recalled the schedule given to her which was identical to Kurama's.

Thankfully she sensed his energy and spotted his red hair and followed him through the crowd.

When she entered the classroom, she introduced herself to the teacher who thankfully seemed to know who she was. Botan didn't doubt Lord Koenma's skill in slipping her into a believable role with all the proper files and whatnot. As the bell chimed one last time, everyone quieted down and the teacher asked Botan to introduce herself to the class before they began their lesson. "Hello, my name's Botan." She smiled to the class, trying not linger too much on Kurama. "I'm from Guilin, China." She said. She was pretty certain that all of the students had some form of genius talent but she wasn't sure what she could say in that regard. "I look forward to meeting you all. Thank you!" She concluded with a bow and made her way to an open desk and sat down.

As the morning carried on, she found herself following with the class and taking notes. As they moved from Chemistry to Calculus, she found herself taking more notes in regards to Kurama and what she had observed so far. He was quiet but seemed capable of raising his hand and contributing to the class which meant he had qualities of teamwork, but she already knew that much. When Calculus ended, it was time for a quick break for the students to stretch for ten minutes before their next hour of American History before lunch. Botan stayed near the window and chatted with some of the people who approached her with polite curiosity.

When Kurama finally approach her, she brightened up.

"Hi there." She held out her hand. Some of the students had moved into the hall to use up the remaining seven or so minutes to cram for their next quiz or study session. Her brain was a bit tired but she knew this mission was important and during lunch, while she might want to take a cat nap, she'd need to check for any demons. If there were any, she presumed Kurama would have noticed already. That would be a decent cover since she knew he probably wanted to know why she was here. He couldn't know about her other motive. "I'm Botan, you are...?" For now she decided to play into her role until they had more privacy but from the look of things, no one was really paying her much mind, despite being so close to the school's most sought after specimen, Shuichi Minamino.

Ever since he'd returned from the Tournament... and gone back to his life as Suichi... he'd found himself twice as aware as he had been. He did blame that on Yoko. He could feel the demon under the surface. It was however, easy enough to convince him to remain there instead of trying to come clawing his way out. The last thing he needed was trouble with Koenma.

It wasn't like life was much different. He still went to the prep school. He still held the top of his class... and he came home to his very alive... still loving mother. She'd been so happy to see him home from his ' vacation '. She'd even been happy to see the ever petulant Hiei, that had been a surprise. She hadn't said anything about his rather poor attitude. After all he was one of Kurama's 'friends'.

Despite everything though, for some reason he was having to press extra hard to behave himself. Still, as he sat quietly in his class, already early and waiting for the bell... he was certain he'd felt something familiar. It was a nagging in the back of his mind, not a demon... no far from a demon actually. The signature wasn't quite the same. It was still something he knew shouldn't technically be in Ningenkai.

It took just about every ounce of control he had not to press to try and find the source. How fortunate for him that he didn't have to, she came right into the class room. Subtly his brows lifted, emerald eyes flickering across her. Botan. What was she doing here? Did that mean there was trouble? His mind began to turn and he almost didn't realize class had started. Not that he needed to pay attention much.

When it came time for their break his was briefly caught by a young woman who was yet again trying to encourage him to join the debate team. He politely declined and offered her a smile that seemed to completely satisfy her even if she didn't know it.
He traveled across the room, until he stood only a few feet from her.
“ Suichi,” He hummed quietly, “ However friends call me Kurama.”

He offered her a trademark Suichi smile, soft and kind that lit his green eyes up pleasantly.
“ A dramatic change from what you're used to?” Kurama tilted his head inquisitively, easily playing the curious... innocent high school genius.
“ I have noticed you're in most of my classes,” he hummed, “ that is to assume that it was done on purpose and I am to be your escort for the first few weeks here?” His brow arched again with secret inquiry. Was he missing something?

Considering both her and Kurama could sense spirit energy, she would have been surprised if he hadn't sensed her coming.

In all honesty, the reaper was rather intrigued to see a different side of Kurama. Yusuke and the others were constantly fighting for their lives and this change was welcomed. It was easy to forget that Yusuke, Kurama and Kuwabara were someone's son, and that they did have to go to school and focus on another future in the Human World. Botan was always focused on paper work and doing her job as a reaper to prepare people for the next phase after living, that she sometimes took the Human World for granted in all its beauty. She didn't spend much time on Earth until she met Yusuke and was sucked into his life and all its complexities. She was not complaining by any means though.

If someone asked her a year ago about her job and the future, she would have never guessed she'd have made friends with the likes of Hiei and Yoko Kurama, as both demons had unsavory reputations. Though she wasn't sure if they were really friends but she hoped to find out more information through her newest mission. Either way, Botan was happy with her life at the moment, especially since the danger was minimal and she could finally breathe easy. Genkai was alive, the tournament was over and everyone could get back to living as they once were. As she tried to remember the names of those she was interacting with, she tried not to think about her small book and the secrets it contained about people and their habits, mannerisms, and most importantly, their death.

When Kurama approached her, she could feel his emerald eyes looking her over. He likely knew if it was an emergency, she wouldn't be so cavalier about her appearance. When he asked her if she was alright, she had to consider what to say to that. Hi there, it's nice to meet you." She said to him. "Oh? You could say that but I've been around Yusuke long enough to know my way around." Of course she didn't go to his school directly but did hang out around him and his friends. "I do need to do some work around here." She confessed to Kurama. "I was actually hoping you might be able to help me." Botan added.

She glanced around and couldn't sense any demons nearby. Of course if they were high level ones, Rank C or above, they would be easy to detect but to her knowledge, the ones she needed to handle were in the E and D rank. Obviously for someone like Kurama or Yusuke, handling them would be an easy task but Botan wanted to learn how to fight on her own, just in case. And she also needed to secretly evaluate the other three boys. Hiei would be the hardest so she was trying to leave him until the very last, if possible. Looking around, she noticed many females looking at the red haired genius. "I'm not surprised you have a lot of admirers." She teased, changing the topic so that if anyone did overhear them, it wouldn't sound questionable.

The redhead closed his green eyes, trying to give a dramatic sigh but a small smile curled his lips up slightly regardless. Ah. The woes of being the school sweetheart. He gave a light chuckle and gave her a little almost devious look.
“Unfortunately not a one of them would know what to do with me if they ever actually got hold of me,” His voice went an octave deeper for just a slight moment and then he gave her a cheerful smile.
It wasn't like Suichi to dwell much on anything aside from his classes and generally being happy and sweet.

“ As for the work,” he offered her in that soft, near delicate voice once more, “I am certain we can find time after classes to discuss where you are in need of assistance.”
Kurama glanced around himself briefly, “We can find the classes you're struggling in and perhaps schedule time when I can offer you tutoring...You seem quite the bright young woman. I'm certain you'll catch on.”
He knew that she would easily understand his meaning. Kurama was sharp as a tack... and it was easy enough to conceal his honest meaning under the plain talk.

Another young woman approaching him almost cautiously. “ Drama club is meeting... Suichi- Senpai...”
He almost seemed exasperated at the added honorific she tagged to the end of his name.
“I apologize!” He stated smoothly instead, “I forgot completely...Please inform them that they may start without me.”
She flushed brilliantly, “ Of course...” The young woman gave Botan a cursory once over before she rushed away.

“I am afraid that is my calling to go...” He offered to her. Kurama gave her a curious glance himself, trying to figure out what else there was that she had to do here. He hadn't sensed anything out of the ordinary until she'd shown up, not even Hiei. So... what exactly had the Reaper here, certainly by Koenma's orders, she would still be working if it were not so.
“Perhaps we can speak after school more,” He flashed his teeth at her lightly, “ It was nice to meet you Botan.”

Kurama turned lightly and strode in the direction the girl had gone, catching up with a small group of young men as he exited the room. He smiled and laughed quietly with them as they slipped farther down the hall way and out of sight.

Botan smiled at him when he remarked that none of the girls would know what to do with him if they did get him. She wasn't sure about that but then again, human teenagers could be rather interesting, one minute confident and the next, riddled with self doubt. They chatted briefly before he was approached, or summoned rather. Botan watched him soon take his leave and she made a mental note to just find him after school when perhaps time was easier for him to come by. She spent the free period doing some studying in regards to the real homework that had been assigned to her. And during lunch, she was accepted into a group of people who she was able to befriend.

Her notebook with Kurama's information, as well as the other trinkets, remained hidden as she talked with the group. She didn't have any lunch on her since it wasn't something she considered to get beforehand. Either way, the people she was with, were very generous with offering bits from their own lunches. While they talked, she was able to get more information about their beloved classmate. Much to her relief, the people didn't seem as infatuated with the redhead as most. So she was able to get less biased information out of them. When lunch was over, she got up and headed off to their next class.

Nothing too eventful happened for the rest of the day though Botan couldn't help but feel a bit drained by the end of the day. Human education was pretty dull compared to what she had learned many many years ago. As a demon herself, her lifespan was lengthy and she had learned a great deal during her time alive. Even so, humans on Earth tended to escape her grasp. Only when she talked to those she reaped, did she learn more about those she watched down below. And watching was very different from interacting. While Botan was unsure of her capabilities as a student and someone who could be a sort of Spirit Detective, she was eager to learn and knew Kurama would be able to help her.

All she had to do was find him...

Though they had the same classes and free periods, she had seen him leave quickly with another group of people when the school day ended. She decided to follow and see what was going on now. She was more used to Yusuke and Kurwabara's antics but she was aware that Kurama did have other things to do, like clubs. She saw the cluster go into a lab and she assumed they were talking about some sort of science fair. She poked her head in and saw them trying to get Kurama to help with some kind of equation. Botan slipped inside and stood in the back and watched, curious. She slipped her things into her messenger bag while she waited and suddenly she felt a chill. It was a feeling she got when she sensed a demon near by.

Botan decided waiting was unwise and hurried over to the group. "Excuse me." She said, interrupting them. "Uh Shuichi-senpai.." She spoke up. "i need to talk to you now." She said and tried to gauge what level of demon could be lurking around. SHe could tell it was perhaps D or C. Either way, it would pose a problem to the near by students and adults in the vicinity. Botan knew there were some woods near by where it could be lurking and the girl wanted to make sure they took care of it before anything bad happened. Botan wheeled around and hurried out of the room and slipped on the ring which would aid in her trying to fire a spirit gun. It was better than nothing, and she didn't have her usual baseball bat with her.

The day was done, but that didn't mean he wouldn't still have some minor things to finish. Kurama wasn't surprised with one of the other boys from his science class snatched him up. He couldn't very well say no, he'd gotten himself into all this mess, and it wasn't like it wasn't half enjoyable. At least the humans here were smart... smarter than the ones at Yusuke's school at least. He chided himself. It wasn't nice. Yusuke had a good heart, and he wasn't stupid. Not exactly anyway.

“We can't seem to make it work,” A boy told him looking frustrated.
Kurama turned his gaze up at the board and he looked over the equation. It was easy really. He could pick out the mistakes that were keeping it from working. However, he was not simply going to give them the answer to it. It wouldn't be to their benefit as a species if everything was just given to them and they didn't have to work a little.

“I quite think you can figure out what needs to be done,” he told them lightly with a bright smile.
“I will give you a hint. There is a mistake or two in the equation itself that is keeping it from solving properly,” He motioned at it with one hand before leaning back against one of the desks. Kurama watched them as they started to argue each one fussing over something different. He shook his head a little bit and smiled slightly to himself.

It was then that he felt a chill creep up his spine. Not exactly a chill but a sensation that told him something was off. He went suddenly still, staring ahead and listening close. Before he could pinpoint anything though Botan spoke up, drawing his attention. His gaze turned towards her and he excused himself from the matter at hand.
They protested but he apologized, saying it was an urgent matter and he hurried out after Botan. Thankfully his long stride had him easily in pace with her in but a few seconds. His green eyes flickered around them as they went.
“You're going to have to tell me why you're really here Botan....” he murmured to her as they went.
“Has something gone wrong?”

When her presence was finally noted, Kurama thankfully excused himself from the bickering classmates and she headed out into the hallway with him. "I told you." She replied gently. "I'm here to help with the infestation around here. I know it's not really your job so I'm not asking you to help in that regard. Yusuke is on the other side of town and Kuwabara's powers are in a questionable state. For now Lord Koenma wishes that I would step in and help out." She explained. "The Dark Tournament took its toll on everyone but most of all, Yusuke, Kuwabara and yourself..." She pointed out. Hiei on the other hand, was a demon and didn't have any connection to a second life as a human.

She and Kurama soon reached the end of the hallway and she looked to him, not sure if he'd be able to help since his human responsibilities were getting in the way. It was also hard to keep tabs on him for her report but that was something she would have to work on herself. After all, she couldn't push them together, for now she considered a more gentle approach. "You don't have to help if you're busy. I've taught enough Spirit Detectives to know how to shoot." She said as she flashed Kurama the ring she had put on, one she had once lent to Yusuke. Botan was sure her capabilities would be enough for the time being. If she pushed Kurama too hard, he might get more suspicious of her actions as well as her real intentions.

After flashing him a smile, she headed down the stairs and headed out of the large building. Botan then put on her watch which would help pin point the location of the demon lurking around. She could use her own skills to track it but she wanted to save her energy for the fight, as there was sure to be one. Botan headed toward the woods and began to wonder what sort of motives a demon would have for being so close to a high school. She could assume the worst or she could try and do some digging before she jumped in. The blue haired reaper followed the watch as it led her into a deep part of the thick woods. She hid behind a tree and turned off the watch as she heard a deep grumble from someone, likely the demon she was tracking. She listened as it seemed to be feasting...but on what?

Peering around the trunk, she saw a large purple colored, hairless demon gnawing on the leg of someone, the rest of the victim's body was torn and spread around the creature. Her worst fears were confirmed and she quickly began to channel her spirit energy into her finger. She wasn't as powerful as Yusuke but she was sure she'd be able to stun the demon and report it to Koenma since she wasn't sure Kurama would catch up with her or not.
