D&D 5E Pirate RP?

Hey there. I figured I'd just pop in and give an interest check for a fifth edition RPG. The newest Unearthed Arcana had me thinking of making an RPG based around the world being waterborne. Basically pirates, though not exactly Skulls and Shackles. Anyone interested? Any questions?

So far, the list of acceptable character options are the options found in all WOTC products. So PHB, DMG, Unearthed Arcanas (Namely the Waterborne and Eberron ones), that one Elemental Evil supplement, and we'll be doing point buy/default array. And probably figuring out the starting level.

I've got some 5e experience, and I kind of jumped for joy when I saw that they had stats for the swashbuckling minotaurs from Dragonlance. Minotaur Fighter or Warlock, most likely.

Is it wrong that I want to play a Warforged pirate solely so I can call them R-M8-E? ^^;

Alright, I'll get to work on the setting and signups, but quick question for you all.

Do you guys wanna start at a later level (thinking 5) or start at level 1?

5E, huh? Well, I have no shortage of the rulebooks. XD

Level 1: also known as 'how to die'.

I'd prefer starting on a higher level, like 3 or 5. By that time your character has more fun options to mess about with either in combat, exploration or problem solving in general.

Higher level, yeah. Level 1 is just a meatgrinder and really not as fun in so many ways.

IMHO

Yeah, Level 1 is a meat grinder. I remember a session where we had a level 1 character die to an Air Elemental and another one where we had our asses kicked by this Half-Dragon (though he was a bro and didn't kill us but rather healed us), so that's my vote, even if it doesn't count.
