@Behemoth542, Cool. I'll get my sheet into the characters tab then.

@BCTheEntity, I still want the total defense bypass for Assassinate. How about some penalty? Such as- 'Pierce can't attack on the next turn, and can't use any other attacks/abilities on the same turn.' So it does a substantial amount of damage, but leaves him out of action temporarily.

Also, question: What happens if we drop to zero Health? Do we just die and our character is gone? Do we respawn/get revived later (possibly with some penalty)?

The game has started. I'm handling the format with plot and other stuff on top, events on the middle and final stats of the enemy at the bottom.

@BBeast You simply go to 0 HP, and have to wait for the rest period (which is what I'm going to use) to recover health. When you're at 0 HP, you'll gain a K.O debuff, which means you cannot take any actions nor be healed normally. You lose that debuff, and gain 1 health point in the rest phase.

Anything I've missed? Any questions?

I'm guessing the EXP gain from damage healed won't include damage healed from resting.

It might be better if you had him 'go dark' for a round to line up the attack, so you activate the ability this round and it has no effect, and then in the following round you bypass the defense with your attack?

Would you then have an opportunity to also Rest to regain your health before the next battle? Would you recover any Energy when recovering from a KO?

@BBeast@SimplyJohn I mean, yeah, those might be reasonable workarounds, but why a 100% defense ignore? Why not, like... 75%? Then you actually do need a high enough attack to bypass their defense with that, whereas you could still deal just two damage to them in a situation where you've not focused into attack at all for future rounds. Anyways, I'll get on with an IC post now.

Thorns: Retaliate to melee dealing [ATK+(damageReceived/DEF)]

I take it the damage calculations were something like:
  • Pierce: Ranged attack, no Damage
  • Bumblebee: Melee attack, Damage = (0 + 2/3) = 0.666 against Defence 2 = No Damage
  • Meat Mallet: Melee attack, Damage = (0 + 4/3) = 1.333 against Defence 0 = 2 Damage
  • Nightingale: no attack, no Damage
  • Phantom: Melee attack, Damage = (0 + 2/3) = 0.666 against Defence 2 = No Damage
  • Metar: Melee attack, Damage = (0 + 0/3) = 0 against Defence 7 = No Damage

Does that mean the experience points currently stand at:
  • Pierce:
    • Attack XP = 1(2) = 2,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0) = 0,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(0) = 0;
    • Total XP = 2
  • Bumblebee:
    • Attack XP = 1(2) = 2,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0.666) = 0.333,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(0) = 0;
    • Total XP = 2.333 = 2
  • Meat Mallet:
    • Attack XP = 1(4) = 4,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0) = 0,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(1.333) = 0.444;
    • Total XP = 4.444 = 4
  • Nightingale:
    • Attack XP = 1(0) = 0,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0) = 0,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(0) = 0;
    • Total XP = 0
  • Phantom:
    • Attack XP = 1(2) = 2,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0.666) = 0.333,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(0) = 0;
    • Total XP = 2.333 = 2
  • Metar:
    • Attack XP = 1(0) = 0,
    • Defence XP = 1/2(0) = 0,
    • Damage XP = 1/3(0) = 0;
    • Total XP = 0

@SimplyJohn Yeah. The debuff wears off at the start of the rest period.

Is it bad that I had Bumblebee make a melee attack instead of a ranged one just so she'd take damage and gain experience points?

What about giving the ability a fixed damage potential instead? For instance, always causing 2 points of damage to a target, no matter what their Defence rating may be?

Upon further checking @Genni's notes, I noticed that the "damage Received" part was being filled with the ATK of the attacker, instead of the damage Bush received. Atm, these would be the current XP levels (including the extra damage caused by Bumblebee:)

Pierce: 4 XP
Bumblebee: 10 XP
Meat: 4 XP
Nightingale: 1 XP
Phantom: 5 XP
Metar: 0 XP

I'm rounding these values accordingly ( <x.5 rounded downwards, and >=x.5 rounded upwards)

@Behemoth542

If Bumblebee boosts herself down towards the Bush, will she get the Speeding status, or would I have to give her a special attack or trait first before earning any status upgrades?

We have a lot of ideas flying around for Assassinate. Why don't we just ask the GM?

@Behemoth542, in your authority as GM (you'll need to make this decision later anyway, when I take the skill), which alternative do you perceive to be most balanced/best? What tweaks should be made? etc.
Assassinate -

  • Pierce performs an attack against the target, ignoring defense, thus doing damage as if the target had zero defense.
  • Pierce performs an attack against the target, ignoring 75% of the target's defense stat.
  • Pierce performs an attack against the target, ignoring defense, thus doing damage as if the target had zero defense. On his next turn, Pierce can not perform any actions or attacks, and he can't do any other actions on this turn.
  • Pierce takes one turn to find a weakness in his enemy's defenses. Pierce can take no other action on this turn. On his next turn, Pierce attacks the target, ignoring defense, thus doing damage as if the target had zero defense. He can't use any other actions on this turn either.
  • Pierce performs an attack against the target, dealing a fixed 5 damage (ignoring defense).

Energy Cost: 7 (could be more if needed)

My mistake. I took it to mean any damage that was received by the defender, even that which was subsequently deflected by their Defence, rather than the damage that was inflicted on them once the Defence had been taken into account.

@BCTheEntity, I think you need some sort of Shield Bash ability, so that you can actually do some damage.

That is planned to be a thing. And since we're discussing it now, let's talk about a theoretical possibility for it:

Shield Bash: Using his shields as weapons, Metar strikes an opponent with one of his shields to deal damage based on his Defense instead of his Attack. Energy Cost: ?

We just need to establish an appropriate Energy Cost for this move, and all is golden.

I'm in two minds about that. On the one hand having an ability which uses your comparatively high Defence would call for a high cost, but on the other hand since you have no way of attacking without using the ability then a low cost would seem appropriate.

Hedging my bets I'd say a cost of 5 would be best, since you could attack in the first and second round, but then would have to wait until the sixth round before gathering enough energy to attack again, but with the provision that you couldn't use your shields to defend yourself with on the same turn, use you'd be lowering your guard to make the attack.

You could also give yourself a subsequent ability like 'Charge Up: Divert all power to energy generation, gaining an extra +1 Energy this round' in order to allow you to attack more often while using your defending rounds for something other than spectating. Or just take a basic +1 Energy regeneration trait for the same effect, although I'd expect @Behemoth542 to put a higher XP cost on something like that.

1. I mean, nothing's stopping anybody else from using their shields to attack, barring their not actually having shields. Hell, they were used for smashing people's heads in all the time IRL; it's a big heavy chunk of metal, that thing's probably going to crack somebody's skull open if it connects.
2. I mean, I've fluffed Metar as being absurdly slow for some reason... maybe he abruptly gains a burst of speed out of nowhere after this round. Possibly because he actually acquires Attack, therefore enough strength to actually move quickly in his ridiculous amounts of armour. What point was I making again? Oh yeah; I feel like a shield bash of that sort wouldn't necessarily need to lower his guard. An attack using a high Defense stat is no more absurd than an attack that completely ignores a target's Defense, after all; it just so happens that Metar is completely focused in Defense, which obviously has massive drawbacks in other notable areas.
3. Oh, by the way, I may tack on a few Attack and/or Health points just for the sake of appearances. Or I may stick to Defense entirely, since I doubt a tiny number of attack points will make much difference at a later point in time.
4. I think more Energy regen will be beneficial to everybody, if every special ability costs less than 10 Energy to use. Just putting that out there.
