Starting Date and Time: Mauven 12, 300 DM & 20th Stretch, Sunset

Starting Location: Trix's Tonics and Tinctures

CS URLs: Galawynd Elsinal & Verissa Beatrix Greenlakes aka Trix

Trix cast a single look at her garden, smiling. She'd pulled in a bountiful harvest today, and there wouldn't be too many more of those. While snow didn't fall south of the river, it wouldn't be too terribly long until the first frost came. But the changing of the seasons was a blessing, it brought about new life, second chances. The sky was beginning to darken, she guessed that there was maybe thirty slips of twilight left. Just enough time to get dinner going. She hated cooking by firelight.

Her dark green skirt, muddied from the outdoor work, swished as she stepped through the door into her apothecary. Immediately the scents of her drying herbs and such wafted over her. She loved this room for that reason, and many others. She moved into her home, grabbing a covered basket, and returning into the apothecary. Deftly, Trix pulled a few food stuffs out; a cut of fish, cleaned and deboned by the merchant she'd purchased it from, a large potato from her stores, and a skin of red wine. Moving over to a table, she looked through the dried plants hanging above it, before plucking a few basil leaves and caraway seeds from a pouch tied around the seed head of the plant.

Back at the table with her food, she added the seeds and leaves into her mortar and crushed them into a powder with her pestle. She sprinkled the dust copiously over the slab of fish, ensuring to cover both sides. Grabbing a knife, she stabbed a few vent holes in her potato, then picked up her supplies and returned to her home, enjoying the warmth of the fiery hearth. Her pan was already sitting on the table, and she set the fish therein, and doused it lightly in wine. Moving over to the fire, she set the potato upon a stone, in the back, so that it was heating, but not directly in the flames. She knew it would take a bit longer to cook than the fish, so she moved over to her bed and sat down, before leaning back comfortably.

Holding her hand up, her expression shifted from comfortable and relaxed to one of worry. She concentrated, feeling the emotion well up within her, and pushed it out through her hand. This manifested as a dull, lavender glow. This glow, this... magic was the cause of her worry. Everyone had heard that magic had returned to the land, but no one actually knew anyone who could use it. But there were rumors, that the knights were searching for this... mages. They then captured them, and doing who knows what to them. So obviously she couldn't tell anyone. Not that she had anyone particularly close to her. Her parents lived in the capital, and everyone in town were acquaintances, customers, and patients at best.

She sighed, before waving her hand, the dull glow dissipating. Maybe she would get a dog, for these lonelier nights.

There was a cold nip in the twilight air, it must be another season going pass. Yet another months flying past the dark brown eyes of Galawynd Elsinal. One more mark to notch in his adventures of roaming the city of Ruby Banks. There was a certain sadness in seeing another season wasted but the White Elf had other things to worry about. Namely a certain little heist he had been planning.

For the past few days, he had been poking around a certain noble's house. He spent many a late night peering into the houses's windows, tracking his movements and watching his routine. And tonight, he would be out on one of his many nightly excursion, likely to a tavern or a party that the damn wealthy threw on a daily basis it seemed. But, while the noble was out, getting drunk off his ass, the little White Elf would pay him a visit and cure his alcoholism by stealing his wealth. It was like a community service, helping an addict out deemed some form of payment ore reward in Galawynd's mind.

Leaping down from a chimney, the elf dashed across roof tops to balcony to roof tops again, dodging open windows with light and smoking chimneys. A few short short minutes later, Galawynd's back was pressed against the steep roof of the house and peered over into the window. Mysteriously, it was still lit and there was the scent of food cooking over an open fire. Perhaps the noble had hired a maid recently and wanted food when he returned?

It would be of no matter, there was a dagger waiting for her should she make some bad life decisions. Slowly opening the window, he crept into the darkened room; long, silent strides took the elf to the door that should lead him into the hallway. However, all he got was a face full of wall.

The bump seemed to bring the world into light as his eyes started to adjust to the room, revealing a horrific mistake. This house was no residence of a noble or even someone remotely wealthy, plants grew all over and even out windows. Hoping the woman in the room wouldn't notice his presence, he pressed against the dark wall. When he thought he saw the women move, he immediately sprawled onto that shadows on the floor, praying to whatever deity or god was still available at this hour.

The hairs stood on the back of his neck, he had a feeling tonight would be a long night. Hopefully it won't be in the town dungeon, gods knew that rat hole lacked anything better than a rock bed.

A slightly chilly breeze passed over Trix, raising bumps along her arms. Odd, had she not closed the door all the way when she'd come in? Sighing yet again, she stood up, casting a glance into the fire, before grabbing the pan of fish, and putting it on the stone rack. It wouldn't take long to cook, and she was quite looking forward to it. She moved from her apartment into her apothecary. There she noticed one of her windows was opened, pushed outward. She saw her jasmine vine wrapped around the handle, on the outside, "Oh, did you pull my window open? Naughty girl." She gently reached out, plucking the green tendril between two fingers and setting it against her wall.

"There we go, much better." She shut the window and found the aroma of the wine and fish wafting over her, bringing a smile to her lips. It was starting to get darker, and would be fully night any moment. Long, dark shadows cast themselves all around her apothecary, but none of them inspired fear within the young woman. This was her sanctuary after all. Walking slowly forward, her fingers outstretched, brushing gently against her plants, lovingly, caressing, moving back to her quarters.

Kneeling down by the fire, she saw that the fish was whitening at the bottom, so she grabbed a fork from her kit, and gently flipped it, only tearing it lightly. Returning to her earlier musings, "Well, there's Edoward I suppose... He's nice, funny sometimes, and is a knight. But... I don't know. I just don't know." Definitely time to get a dog, dad would know where to go for a good breeder. She always did enjoy visiting the capital.

She poked at the potato, watching the fork slip in easily, pulling it out. Standing up, she grabbed a plate, and plopped the spud upon it. She waited a few more minutes and did the same with the fish. Setting the plate on the table, she moved back through the apothecary quickly, heading into her shop area, to fetch her accounting books. She always double checked her books during dinner.

Galawynd was continuing his cursing marathon, swearing in every word, language and dialect he knew or thought he knew. Thank god he wore all black, the shadows blended him quite nicely because of that but he still wondered if the woman was blind. For all the dark clothes he wore, it won't be worth a damn if she saw his fire-red hair. Whatever the case, it seemed his stealth was paying off.

He watched the woman leave the room and come back with some heavy book, mostly like a ledger of sorts. Perhaps this was some shop? Sure looked like a plant shop given the amount of vines and flowers coming out of the wood work and on shelves. The lurking thief wondered if he should try and steal a plant. They should be worth something and if not, well he'd have something to burn on long cold nights.

Slowly crawling out of the shadows, the made sure no try and not to give away his presence, the woman would most likely scream and then the guards would come and then all that fun stuff would ensue. Depending on your variation of "fun" of course. One limb at a time, he did his best not to make a sound, very light squeaks from the floorboard cause his heart to race, hoping that the women was also deaf enough to not hear those noises.

Keeping his eye trained on her as she flipped through the pages of the book, Galawynd kept moving towards the window, hoping not to ruin his chance. Which he promptly did by smacking his head into a shelve. This was clearly going going swimmingly.

She'd walked back through her apothecary, lugging her accounting books along. She deposited them on the table and opened them to the same page. They were identical in every way, one was for her own use, the other was to turn in monthly with her loan payment, to ensure that all was in order. She started at the top of the page, for she started a brand new page each day. This certainly wasted some of the pages, but it made it easier for her to keep it all organized and such. Her father had taught her to read and do basic math as a little girl using his own books to teach, so this always reminded her of those days.

"Tonic to reduce womanly cramps, 3 silvers, to miss Kyara. Salve to heal sunburn, 1 silver, to the Lefston twins. A sack of dried basil, 5 golds, to Shkara." This went on for a few minutes, her reading this aloud, checking her math. "Thirty-Five golds today. Definitely a good day." She finally set about to eating her food now that it had cooled. Just as a piece of fish entered her mouth, she heard a loud bang from her apothecary.

Someone or something was in there. She grabbed a burning stick from the fire and her pan as well. She moved slowly, "Hello, is someone there? I'm armed and my husband will be home soon." The first part was barely true, and the latter was an outright lie, but if there was someone, she had hoped to scare them off. Her impromptu torch was out in front of her as she entered her apothecary, looking around.

Over by her window, the one she'd closed earlier, was a man with fiery red hair dressed in dark colors. But rather than scream, she clammed up. She'd been hoping it was just another curious raccoon or cat. But it was a thief or assassin or rapist or some other horror. She gripped the handle of her pan tight trying to muster the courage to speak, but finding none.
